Although we put ones up with clips on them this year, so he might just be convinced to take them down this year. PLEASE!

I'm the proud president of the Too Lazy to Take Down the Lights club.... I let hand-washed dishes air dry on the rack too.

Our tree and lights will probably stay up until Epiphany. :-) Always. Some years, we will take the tree down early if the recycling day for trees is earlier, but otherwise it all stays up until after January 5.

Our tree and lights will probably stay up until Epiphany. :-) I like to take down the tree and decorations on boxing day, but DH wanted to wait until everybody has left, which will be New years day. So I agreed, but it's bothering me a lot. I love Christmas trees and the decorations, but when Christmas is over, I want it all gone!!!

I get the joke but have a question...
Aren't the original 12 days of Christmas after? Isn't Christmas day the first day of Christmas?
Shouldn't our stuff stay up til Christmas is "over" and we have 12 partridge in our pear trees?

We're still in the twelve days of Christmas (day 4) and my tree/lights will stay up until Epiphany (and my creches until Candlemas)

One year I didn't take my Christmas tree down until the weekend after Valentine's Day. It was getting embarrassing. We just had a lot going on that year. Luckily we don't have people over to our house a lot so it was our little secret. We did manage to get most of the outside lights down by mid January.

Shouldn't our stuff stay up til Christmas is "over" and we have 12 partridge in our pear trees? I've never celebrated Christmas that way. Even when I was religious. Christmas is only one day of the year. I had no idea what Epiphany was until I was an adult. I consider the holidays to end January 1st when it's time to get back into the real world; work and school (for our family). So I definitely want them down by then. I could not care less if other people like them up that long; just not for me. I didn't bother putting up a big tree up this year. So the pitiful 2 foot one is still up.

The 12 Days of Christmas is nothing new - it is as old as Christmas itself! Before the fake trees of the 1960's, most Christmas trees in America went up Christmas Eve and were there for the kids to see in the morning. Then they stayed up through to the Twelfth Night ( hence Shakespeare's play, Twelfth Night). I understand that many people were not raised that way, and that many people choose not to celebrate that way. But for many people the Christmas season comprises many holidays, not just the one day. But chances are if you were born before 1950, your tree went up Christmas Eve when you were little, or your parents' tree did.
Now with artificial trees, the decorations go up in early November - no wonder people are tired of it by the 25th. But I am still happy to keep my stuff up and no one on my street has taken their lights down yet. The XM radio still has a holiday station. Maybe just a little bit some people are tired of the whole rush and taking time to slow down and enjoy the time after the 25th as part of the season as well.

I am another who keeps the decorations up until 12th night, but this year the only local Christmas tree recycling is on Saturday the 4th so the tree has to come down Friday night
