We were in ours yesterday and the shelves are looking very thin. They’re also not accepting any coupons any more. So sad - it was such a beautiful store.
My mom managed a Joann store back in the 90s, when they were really just a small fabric store with a few craft items thrown in.

I am so bummed. Mine made the first cut only to get the ax a week or so later. I went there yesterday and honestly the store hasn’t looked that good in years. No boxes in the aisles. Most things fully stocked except rotary blades and the thread I wanted. Most things were 20 to 25 percent off, not really a great sale.

That's a shame. I admit I haven't gone much in the last few years. Our store - already closed - was really small. I wish I'd visited the Winston-Salem store more often though. It was a very nice one.

Mine was a dump. Merchandise all over the floor; filthy. And that was 6 months ago. Sad

So sad. I liked it for craft items but also seasonal decorations. Easter, Halloween, lake stuff.

That is sad. We got a lot of fabric there for school projects. There are no other local fabric stores that carry inexpensive fabric. Only Hobby Lobby or Walmart which do not have great selections.

I’m so sad. I don’t do as many crafts as I used to. But they were my go to store for fabric, thread, bobbins, and ribbon. The ribbon selection was so slim a few months ago when I went. I recently bought some black cording to make spaghetti straps on a strapless dress for my daughter. Where in the world am I going to buy these kinds of things in the future?

This is sad news, buy honestly, I'm not surprised. The last time I shopped at my local Joann's the shelves were poorly stocked, the store was filthy, and there were boxes in the aisles.
I worked at this Joann's location for a few months about 10 years ago. The management was terrible. One of the employees was rude to a customer and the manager chewed all of us out over a walkie talkie system. That's not the way to correct someone and train them on how to conduct customer service.

Wow, that’s bizarre! One of the stores in my area literally just moved and reopened a couple months ago to a brand new storefront across the mall from where their dumpy old location was. That store originally made it past the first cut, guess now all the stores are getting the axe. Maybe I should make an effort to get over there tomorrow, there was some stuff I was looking at but didn’t buy last time I was there.

Incredibly frustrating. They filled a need. I had a good local chain of fabric stores that mostly closed but does still have one branch, thankfully. Most independent stores here go in and out quickly.

Most independent stores here go in and out quickly. Actually, they are a major part of that problem. Their entire business model involved moving into a market and operating at a loss for three years, to undercut the local competition. Once those stores closed, they reduced their coupons and put that store at their normal pricing structure. It’s dirty business. I’m not sorry to see them go. It will create a need that can be filled by local businesses.

FYI, if you have a gift card or know someone who does they’re only good until Feb 28th.

Sad. What does that leave now? Hobby Lobby & Michaels? Joann's gone, AC Moore gone.

That is so sad. In my town, we have a Hobby Lobby and next town over has a Michaels. But in my hometown, there is no other stores for fabric except Walmart.

Makes me sad. My store was already closing but I would have driven to find another or order things online because I really liked all their decor for different holidays.

IMO Michael’s is really stepping up in that category. They’ve had a lot of cute decor things lately for all the different seasons and holidays and their stuff is priced better too. While I like some of the things JoAnn sells, I feel like their regular prices have always been over inflated so even with the sale or coupon I’d end up paying more. I’d much rather spend my money at Michael’s than Hobby Lobby.

This makes me sad although I'm not sure when i was last there. I'll miss the upholstery and sunbrella fabrics.

We are also losing one of our two local craft stores (it's currently going out of business.) With the demise of Hancock Fabric's, Tuesday Morning, the 2nd local craft store, two Joann's, and two of my favorite online craft stores going out business (or disappearing from the internet in the last two years) there's not going to be any place left to buy stuff.
We have the one localish craft store, two Michael's (5 and 10 miles away) and Hobby Lobby.

while I haven't shopped in the one near me in a while (it was also always dirty, dingy, and under-staffed) it's a shame that they are all closing. Less choice, larger corporations... like with everything.

Less choice, larger corporations... like with everything. Joann's was the only store for dress fabrics in one of my kids college town. There's a lovely quilt shop, but that's not going to work for clothes - maybe they'll expand?

This makes me sad.
Hold on to your hats though because 15,000 retailers are expected to close in 2025.
This country is forever changed.

I am not surprised. They started the downhill decline many years ago, when they changed the inventory. They used to carry small furniture pieces, had a better selection of home decor, had a much better selection of scrapbook products, etc... I rarely shopped there, because of the decline of merchandise....then the decline of customer service(one cashier only).
Sad to see them, or any business fail.

We have the one localish craft store, two Michael's (5 and 10 miles away) and Hobby Lobby. for people in smaller towns, there really isn't anyplace to shop at a REAL store- especially if you don't want to shop at Hobby Lobby, or you want something more than the basic things Walmart has. I cross-stitch, so my more recent purchases at JoAnns have all been related to stitching- the closest Michael's doesn't keep their DMC floss fully stocked, and Walmart doesn't carry all of the colors any more, just some of the most common ones. I'm lucky-- the Ace Hardware store in the town we live near actually has a FABRIC, crafting, and embroidery section, where you can buy quilting fabric and flannel, and they carry all the DMC floss colors.
