Food for thought:
This is what’s going on, for those of you who don’t know:
Many of you probably watched what took place between Donald Trump and Zelenskyy tonight. Whether you're a Democrat or a Republican, you might be thinking to yourself, Oh my God, Donald Trump just screwed up.
However, as a lifelong practitioner of martial arts, strategy, and philosophy, let me explain the difference between what you believe you witnessed and what actually happened.
Donald Trump has been under constant political persecution since the beginning of his first term. Over time, he has learned to be patient and calculated.
Tonight, Zelenskyy was invited to the Oval Office. However, both Trump and JD Vance knew exactly what Zelenskyy was going to do—he would use this opportunity, in front of the American people, to make a power play. Both Trump and Vance anticipated this.
When Zelenskyy began appealing to the emotions of the American people, JD Vance stepped in, accusing him of disrespecting Donald Trump. This was a brilliant strategy. It’s important to understand that Zelenskyy is trying to gain access to NATO.
Trump knew this but could not allow it to happen. If Ukraine joins NATO, the U.S. would be bound by NATO’s collective defense agreement—an attack on one is an attack on all.
Now consider the larger implications: Ukraine and Russia despise each other. If Ukraine were to become a NATO member, any future skirmish between them would obligate the U.S. to enter into direct conflict with Russia. This would mean World War III. And if that happened, China would have to choose a side—they would almost certainly align with Russia.
So what you witnessed tonight was a setup. Trump and JD Vance knew that the only way to achieve peace was to strategically align, at least on the surface, with Russia. Why? Because Russia would never sign a peace treaty if Ukraine were admitted into NATO.
This is why Trump dismantled Zelenskyy’s argument. And when Zelenskyy, seeing his play failing, tried to backtrack and offer a treaty, Trump refused.
Zelenskyy’s real intent was clear—he would not agree to peace unless security guarantees were in place. But what was he actually saying? That NATO must accept Ukraine. However, Russia would never agree to peace, knowing that NATO, their historical adversary, would surround them.
Zelenskyy, Putin, and Trump all knew this. Zelenskyy, thinking he had Democratic support, believed he could make this bold move on live television. But Trump and Vance saw right through it and outmaneuvered him.
They knew that, in the short term, Democrats and the media would try to use this moment against them. But they also knew they had two years before midterms to prove their strategy was the right one. So they held their ground—brilliantly so.
Now, Zelenskyy will have no choice but to back down and accept Trump's terms. But here’s the genius part—Trump is actually protecting Ukraine without dragging the U.S. into war.
By negotiating a mineral deal, Trump ensures that Americans will be involved in Ukraine’s mining industry. This prevents Russia from launching an invasion, because attacking Ukraine would mean endangering American lives—something that would force the U.S. to respond.
Trump played both sides like a master chess player. In the end, Zelenskyy will have no choice but to concede, because without U.S. support, Ukraine cannot win a prolonged war against Russia. And once U.S. companies have mining operations in Ukraine, Putin will be unable to attack without triggering massive international consequences.
Don’t underestimate Donald Trump. In this game of chess, he’s 10 moves ahead of everyone.

This is a bullshit take. Trump is being Trump and t young to sell out the US for his own benefit. Trump isn’t smart enough to play that sort of game and that’s not how the political/diplomatic world works either. Neither is it how the business world works. Trumps an idiot and he’s going to lead us to WWIII. I hope Europe is prepared and continues to ramp up its defenses to additional Russian aggression. I also won’t be suprised if we start seeing Chinese aggression in Asia. Trump has illustrated repeatedly that the US cannot be trusted to uphold treaties and isn’t interested in stabilizing the world. His actions from Ukraine to Gaza illustrated that.

That has to be the most ridiculous thing I've read today. Anyone who thinks (a) that Trump has been persecuted or (b) that he's capable of thinking further ahead than his next meal is fooling themselves.
This is a man who allowed the people who manage our nuclear arsenal to be fired because it didn't occur to him that we might need those folks.
But supposedly he's playing fancy chess here. Please. Tell me another.

An administration that thought they could fight fires in Los Angeles, by dumping water into rivers that do not flow to Los Angeles, is not playing multi-dimensional chess regarding Ukraine .
An administration that is willing to allow Elon’s college age white nationalist techies into secure systems, and fire critical people willy nilly, while not understanding who makes up probationary employees is not playing multi-dimensional chess regarding Ukraine.
I get that people need to find a way to work out what happened in a way for Trump and the US to not look bad, as a coping mechanism. The “plan” was to embarrass President Zelenskyy and make him look weak, so that he would have no choice but to let Russia and the US take their spoils and determine what a meaningless place like Ukraine would be “allowed,” by more important countries like them, to keep.
Whatever we thought we knew about who the United States, our country, was, is over and gone. Willful blindness will not help anyone, and is going to cause a great deal of harm.

However, as a lifelong practitioner of martial arts, strategy, and philosophy, let me explain the difference between what you believe you witnessed and what actually happened. I'm not clear if your whole post is quoting someone else or if you are really a lifelong practitioner of martial arts, strategy and philosophy. Not that it makes a difference because the whole argument you make is Orwellian: "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." If Ukraine joins NATO, the U.S. would be bound by NATO’s collective defense agreement—an attack on one is an attack on all. Yes. Just a reminder, the only time Article 5 has been invoked in the history of NATO was in defense of the US after the 9/11 attack. For arguments sake, NATO rejects Ukraine and Russia takes over. Who is next? Latvia? Estonia? Poland? Lithuania? Poland? Slovakia? Romania? All are NATO members. Putin's end game is to recreate the Soviet Union. However, Russia would never agree to peace, knowing that NATO, their historical adversary, would surround them. Please take another look at the map. NATO would not surround Russia with or without Ukraine. All NATO countries are on the western border of Russia.

Hey OP, I am relatively new here so I looked back on your posts. In addition to watching what I consider a ridiculous amount of TV, you have outed yourself as a Republican many times. May I remind you that you "hate" and "loathe" and "despise" Hilary Clinton? And you have posted many times your agreement and sympathy with Trump. Additionally, you opposed student debt aid after bragging about your two half million dollar homes and your largess in IRAs and accounts. But, oh yeah, your kids "worked their tails off in high school and college, with very little help from you and your DH" You sound like an imbecile. Find another place to launch your nonsense defense of an indefensible POS.

I just saw this "take" posted on a former classmate's FB.
This isn't a reality show and no amount of post-production editing can gaslight me into thinking there was any kind of brilliant strategy involved in that childish demand for thank-yous, reminiscent of a pair of old aunties who gave you a peppermint on your birthday. That wasn't the flex they think it was. It looked petty and sophomoric.
Utter bullshit.

Over time, he has learned to be patient and calculated. This statement alone is the flaw in the entire piece. Trump does not learn. Trump is not patient. Trump is incapable of truly calculated moves because he is so impatient, self-centered and stupid. He's a salesman and a bully. Those are his only skills.

Here’s a more accurate analysis.
An intriguing analysis has been circulating online regarding the psychological aspects of Zelensky’s meeting with Trump and Vance, conducted using ChatGPT.
From this analysis, it becomes evident that we have witnessed a true masterclass in gaslighting, manipulation, and coercion on the part of Trump and his entourage. Let’s break down the key points:
1. Blaming the victim for their own situation
Trump explicitly tells Zelensky: “You have allowed yourself to be in a very bad position.” This is classic abuser rhetoric—blaming the victim for their suffering. The implication is that Ukraine itself is responsible for being occupied by Russia and for the deaths of its people.
2. Pressure and coercion into ‘gratitude’
Vance demands that Zelensky say “thank you.” This is an extremely toxic tactic—forcing the victim to express gratitude for the help they desperately need, only to later accuse them of ingratitude if they attempt to assert their rights.
3. Manipulating the concept of ‘peace’
Trump claims that Zelensky is “not ready for peace.” However, what he actually means is Ukraine’s capitulation. This is a classic manipulation technique—substituting the idea of a just peace with the notion of surrender.
4. Refusing to acknowledge the reality of war
Trump repeatedly insists that Zelensky has “no cards to play” and that “without us, you have nothing.” This is yet another abusive tactic—undermining the victim’s efforts by asserting that they are powerless without the mercy of their ‘saviour.’
5. Devaluing the victims of war
“If you get a ceasefire, you must accept it so that bullets stop flying and your people stop dying,” Trump says. Yet, he ignores the fact that a ceasefire without guarantees is merely an opportunity for Russia to regroup and strike again.
6. Dominance tactics
Trump constantly interrupts Zelensky, cutting him off: “No, no, you’ve already said enough,” and “You’re not in a position to dictate to us.” This is deliberate psychological pressure designed to establish a hierarchy in which Zelensky is the subordinate.
7. Forcing capitulation under the guise of ‘diplomacy’
Vance asserts that “the path to peace lies through diplomacy.” This is a classic strategy where the aggressor is given the opportunity to continue their aggression unchallenged.
8. Projection and distortion of reality
Trump declares: “You are playing with the lives of millions of people.” Yet, in reality, it is he who is doing exactly that—shifting responsibility onto Zelensky.
9. Creating the illusion that Ukraine ‘owes’ the US
Yes, the US is assisting Ukraine, but presenting this aid as “you must obey, or you will receive nothing” is not a partnership—it is financial and military coercion.
10. Undermining Ukraine’s resistance
Trump states that “if it weren’t for our weapons, this war would have ended in two weeks.” This is an attempt to erase Ukraine’s achievements and portray its efforts as entirely dependent on US support.
Conclusion
Trump and his team employed the full spectrum of abusive tactics: gaslighting, victim-blaming, coercion into gratitude, and manipulation of the concepts of peace and diplomacy. This was not a negotiation—it was an attempt to force Zelensky into accepting terms beneficial to the US but potentially fatal for Ukraine.

And once U.S. companies have mining operations in Ukraine, Putin will be unable to attack without triggering massive international consequences. Don’t underestimate Donald Trump. In this game of chess, he’s 10 moves ahead of everyone. This is straight up bullshit. First, the last thing that Trump is, is patient. Look at how he melted down at a governor recently. And at this Oval Office meeting, he also lost his cool. And Trump didn’t dismantle Zelensky’s argument. This was a stunt, pure and simple, by the WH. What Zelensky wanted was a security agreement. Why? Because Putin is a criminal who cannot be trusted. Trump, who probably couldn’t find Ukraine on a map, wanted those rare earth minerals. And I’m glad that he didn’t get them, because Ukraine will need that revenue to rebuild. So far Europe is standing with Ukraine. Why? Again, because nobody trusts Putin. Putin is unlikely to stop with Ukraine. He wants to bring back the glory days of the USSR. No one in Europe wants to be a vassal of Russia. Trump is the opposite of a master chess player. I doubt that he can play checkers. What is happening currently is that our former allies are deciding that the US under Trump cannot be trusted. That is why they have been having meetings lately. So our influence will wane, which is bad for the US.

I was supposed to win! Yes so much more support from other countries. Well more vocal today they always supported them. Also seeing other headlines from supposed right wing papers in the UK it’s nit playing out this way at all. They see him as a bully and a fool. Also saw that a major fuel company in Norway will no longer help the US navy with fuel and I would bet that many others in other countries may follow suit. This is so sad to see what he is doing to our once great nation. We are a laughing stock.
