My MIL often calls on Sundays and asks what I’m cooking that day. She then tells me the huge amount of food she is making (just two of them at home). I’m curious how many make big meals on Sundays? I might make something that takes more time than I have on a weekday, or I might make something really quick if I’ve been busy all day. But I generally don’t think of it as my days activity. How about you?

I cook "Sunday night family dinner", but it's just DH and I, so I wouldn't say it's a huge amount of food, and it certainly isn't an all-day ordeal.

Yes I cook on Sundays. We have our family dinner on Sunday evening that dh and I both make, but I also use Sunday to meal prep for the week - I make my egg bites, hard boiled eggs, and DHs muffins so I don’t have to mess with them the rest of the week.

Used to, but now that it is just the two of us, it is hit or miss. I kind of hate using a weekend to cook. Everyone else is hanging out and I'm doing a chore I don't love.

Now that it's mostly just the 2 of us we often just eat leftovers or fend for ourselves.

Sometimes. Depends on what we have going on. When the boys were younger, but old enough for sports, we ate out a lot on Sundays because of all their activities. Growing up, my mom did not cook on weekends. She worked full-time, so weekends were her rest days. Kitchen was closed. 😂

Typically I cook a meal on Sunday but it’s not usually anything really big. I sometimes make beef stew or pot roast. DS usually cooks during the week but he doesn’t make the same things that I make.

I try to make big meals that reheat well on the weekend so after going back to work Monday, I don’t have to worry about cooking. I’m not really organized enough to meal prep for the week but I try to do meals that take a long time and make good leftovers.

DH does most of our weekend cooking - in fact, he’s making Sunday night dinner as I type! We eat a wide variety of foods and so how complex it is varies - it could be a full roast dinner or it could be like tonight, a vegetable risotto. Generally though, it’s either something that cooks long and slow, or something that happens in 30 minutes or so. There’s only the two of us so we don’t cook heaps of food. Just a main course, as we don’t really do dessert - that’s something we keep for eating out or vacation - usually enough for me to have leftovers for lunch the next day as well as our evening meal.

Often Sunday is the only day of week we do cook a big meal. Then we eat the leftovers 2 nights during the week. The other 2 nights we get salads after yoga. And Saturday we go out.

I cook everyday except for when we order a pizza or something else several times a month. Sundays are no different from the rest of the week. When I was in my 20's I dated a guy whose parents were Italian. We would go to her house on Sundays. She said they needed to put some meat on my bones. The first time we went she had lasagna, a roast and so many side dishes I lost count. I was from a meat and potatoes background so I was floored.

What day of the week it is has zero to do with whether I cook or not. I'm more apt to cook on days I have off and I have 2 jobs sooo....
All in all I cook a lot less than I used to,

I like to make bigger meals that have a lot of prep on the weekends. I enjoy cooking, but during the week I don’t have the time to prepare involved meals, so I like to do it on the weekends.

Never, unless it happens to be Easter Sunday, someone's birthday, or some other (rare) special occasion. When we had kids home Sunday was always leftovers or make-it-yourself or breakfast for dinner (I don't consider that cooking). Now that it's just me and dh at home we eat pizza on Saturday, and the leftover pizza on Sunday. I buy the two-pack of Milton's cauliflower crust pizza and we each get one to doctor up how we want. We eat half of ours on Saturday, half on Sunday.

If I'm in the mood to make something more time consuming, like a from-scratch soup or stew, Sunday is usually the day I do it. I might also make something like a curry that makes good leftovers during the weeke. In the past I've done meal prep on Sundays, but now that I don't work full time, I don't bother with that.
With just the two of us here most of the time, I'm much lazier about cooking.

Nope. Growing up both my kids had soccer games on Sunday that kept my husband and I running around so Sunday dinner was pizza at the local place or a pie to go.

I pretty much refuse to cook on weekends, because everyone else is goofing off and there's enough stuff I still have to do like scooping the cat box and tossing in laundry. I'll cook if someone else helps me, but that's pretty much it.

I always cook but not a fancy meal unless either of our DDs/grandkids are here.
If it's just us 2 I might do a simplified roast or maybe something like sausages and mash.

Sunday is the day DH is mostly likely to make dinner, which really means he takes care of the protein and wants something I don't usually make (ribs, wings, roast lamb, souvlaki).
We don't do a special sit down at the dining table Sunday dinner and I prefer to make fast, easy meals during the week so don't have a weekly meal prep day.

During football season I do not cook on Sundays. That's my day to have fun, so I usually fix myself leftovers, or order take out.
Now, that football season is over, I do cook on Sundays. I have a meatloaf with potatoes and carrots in the crockpot right now.

It depends on how busy the day is! I have two kids still at home, both play sports and have other activities they are involved in so weekends can be quite busy. If it’s a quiet day at home, I will cook a bigger meal and bake a dessert too! But if it’s a busy day or I’m worn out, I’ll still cook on Sundays, but it’s going to be something quick and simple!

I primarily cook on Sundays. Most of the time I make breakfast in a portion that will last me all week. Then I'll make a big dinner that will last a few nights of leftovers. Cooking this way keeps me away from convenience foods and saves me from making terrible choices for breakfast. On Saturday I generally cook a good meal too, one that might not make great leftovers but that I would be too tired to do during the week.

Not sure if this counts.
I cook 2-3 meals for the week and portion them out. I need 15-18 meals generally. That way I can grab and go. Less eating out.

Not every Sunday but if I am going to make a labor intensive meal I will do it on Sunday. I cook almost every day but I’m not going to make something like homemade mashed potatoes or a lasagna on a week day.
My typical shopping day is Monday so unless I plan a special meal we usually eat leftovers from the week or whatever I can come up with whatever’s left in the fridge and pantry on Sundays.

I used to like to cook a big meal on Sunday, meaning doubling or tripling a recipe so that I could freeze the leftovers. Over time I would end up with a variety of easy to reheat meals for the week when I was working.
I’m retired now, so I cook when I feel like it. We’re catching up on eating leftovers tonight.

I cook pretty much every day I am not working. Sunday isn't generally any bigger or better than any other day, but it might be more of a joint project since DH generally hasn't been working all day. I might also do some baking, and it's a day I might be more inclined to do experiments.

I used to cook a more complicated meal or a roast dinner on Sundays but DD18's been so busy on Sunday the past 5-6 years with Girl Scout activities that we usually end up grabbing a late lunch and skipping dinner all together

It's just any other day so I do usually cook. What I made today was enough for leftovers tomorrow but I seldom make anything that stretches more than 2 days.

In cooler months I'll usually make a pot or two of soup or something else that will reheat well for leftovers during the week.
In warmer months, we tend to grill a lot and regularly have "Steak Sunday".

I might make something that takes more time than I have on a weekday, or I might make something really quick if I’ve been busy all day. But I generally don’t think of it as my days activity. How about you? I'm curious as to how old your mil is. My mom thinks Sunday should be a "big meal" cooked day. She would put a pot roast in with potatoes and carrots to cook while we were at church. Dough for rolls was made the night before and the unbaked rolls popped in the fridge to rise slowly overnight. They went in the oven when we got home so they were ready to serve by the time the table was set. A garden salad and 2 or 3 boiled vegetables. There was also a pie or cake (normally cooked the night before) I do not do a big Sunday dinner as a matter of routine like she did.
