I'm talking computer, not phone. Your web browser.
The ones you always have open - what are they?
I'm in the 4-10 category -usually I have 4 that remain open - Facebook, my Gmail for the business, my Honeybook (client management system), and 2Peas.
Any others I open I tend to close when done with them.
ETA - I also just realized that in addition to the 4 I usually have open, logged into my business Google, thanks to the iMac I have 2 other Google browser sheets I can see at a glance as well. One is logged in to my new cookie business Google account and it has my Gmail & Mailerlite tabs open. Then I have my Icing Smiles Canada browser page that I keep open as well - my admin Gmail for that, the application sheet, baker sheet & operations manual, so I can quickly get to it and remember to keep on top of it.

I use an iPad and always have the same three open. Facebook, 2Peas and another message board with a very small handful of members.

Currently 20 Ones that are always open - Peas, BBC News, Met Office, Alphaguess, Facebook, Insta. Then I have several that I haven't finished with and want to remember/go back to etc - a few online dress stores because I'm looking for a dress to wear to my DD's wedding in the summer, a dermatologist I'm considering getting a few tweakments from (before said wedding), a bridal boutique to try and sell the dress she bought and then changed her mind about ( don't ask), a theatre I'll probably get tickets for Riverdance from, amazon, Vinted. Yeah, quite a lot

I have 10 ... Email, Peas, Facebook, Pinterest, three for work, two dating sites and Spotify ... It means I have to charge my laptop more than I would like to because I also sometimes watch videos on Youtube. The funny thing is, looking at my tabs, they are a representation of me!

Usually two. Gmail always open on a tab, and whatever website I am actively using.
Sometimes I have a third website up, if there is breaking news.....then I will open a third tab, to live stream the breaking news.
When I am done on a website that requires a password, I sign out-log off, and then close the tab. I sign in, with a password.....every single time for all accounts and websites, that are password protected.

I picked 1-3 but it depends on if I'm on my work laptop or personal laptop. On my work laptop I have two project management tabs and then usually 2peas and Facebook.
On my personal laptop, I'm probably more of a 4-10 tabs person.

More than 20! And when my browser accidentally closes, I just tell it to reopen them all! 🤣 I keep them open because I want to remember to go back to them. I know there are bookmarks, and I have those too. But out of sight, out of mind. 🤣

Right now? six - Habitica, here, Facebook...my standards plus a blog post with an idea I want to implement, a second FB tab with a layout I want to use as a sketch, and Shimelle's forum (I'm working on classes)
How many really depends on what I'm focusing on though
genealogy? I'll often have multiple FamilySearch windows open (and/or if I'm currently subscribed to FindMyPast, Ancestry, or Newspapers.com - multiple of those - I don't stay subscribed but periodically resub), occasionally I'll browse the local obits page for one of a couple of places and open in a new tab any of interest
scrapping? I'll often have a couple of layout ideas/sketches etc...tabs open for inspiration
catching up on news? BBC, The Guardian, sometimes DW.com

I know there are bookmarks, and I have those too. But out of sight, out of mind. 🤣 I recently cleaned out all my bookmarks because I almost never actually use them for exactly that reason. Right now if it won't fit on my bookmark toolbar, it doesn't get bookmarked...those are visible and I do remember to click on them. I think I have a dozen there - seven are permanent, the others are reminders that I wanted to re-visit the site and follow up in some way. Two are scrapbook/card classes, one is a Youtube video, and two are genealogy websites (smaller family focused ones)

Who uses a computer? I just bought a new one in January and I think I’ve opened it up three times since then, so the answer to the OP would be zero. But now here on my iPad that I use all day, everyday for pretty much everything? Right now I have 227 open tabs. 😳
I really need to go through and close a bunch of them because I don’t need them anymore (recipes I’ve printed, links to free graphics bundles that have expired, fonts I’ve either downloaded already or the link expired to get it free, shopping sites my kid sent to me, I could go on and on).

I only use a desktop computer for work and I have to use at least 5 different tabs open to do the bare minimum of my job.

I do - I use my desktop almost exclusively. My tablet's sole purpose is Facebook video chats and GoogleMeets - it lives on a stand on my scrapdesk because that's the only place I use it. I don't have nor do I like laptops.

Lol. My ds is always rolling his eyes at me when I comment that I have to restart my laptop because it's laggy when I'm trying to type. He'll always say "Mom, if you didn't have so many tabs opened you wouldn't have to do that so often!" haha I always reply "but I **need** those tabs!"
Always opened: -- email -- Facebook -- this board -- my account at the library -- Duolingo -- a Spanish grammar site because Duo is getting more difficult -- the Buy Nothing regional group boundaries map so I can easily look up the address that people who are applying to our group have given -- Netflix and/or Paramount, depending on what I'm watching
In addition lately I've kept a random number generator there because I've been spinning that to decide what decluttering chore to do next.
And I often keep the sub-Reddit for Runescape (online game) opened, especially if they've just released a new quest or activity so I can get tips.

I ten to open and close things a lot for some reason. Too many open tabs starts to annoy me when I'm looking or cycling through them, no matter how quickly I do so.

At work…I’m in the 4-10 range. At home only a couple. I mainly use my phone at home though.

I average 3 tabs. Email, here, and usually some kind of store with a cart waiting to be checked out. I have 5 million tabs open in my brain but too many open tabs on my computer drives me nuts. DH has well over 20 open on his laptop and I don’t know how he functions like that.

3--Yahoo News, email (my main email) and Peas. If I open others I close them when done. I have a gmail account that I open, read whatever is new and then close.

I usually have open the one tab with what I am currently reading. If I am doing work for the non-profits I volunteer for, I will have YouTube or Facebook videos playing in one tab along with the systems I am working from which could be 2-4 extra tabs. Sometimes I have to attend webinars/zoom presentations so I might be surfing the net in another tab while listening to those. I really should get a second monitor.

Depends on the day, but I put 4-10. Usually yahoo mail, gmail, 2peas, instagram, often Ali Edwards (esp when working on OLW), and then usually once a week: Goodreads, amazon, Facebook, threads, and usually something I am researching.

Bloody hell, I would be beyond insane with as many tabs open as some of you. I typically have 1, although if I’m actively researching something I might have a few more open at the same time. But I close every single one when I put my iPad down, or walk away from my PC.
I do have lots of bookmarks, all sorted and nested as appropriate, so I can easily find what I need.
I also aim for an empty Inbox in my emails - emails only stay in the In Box until they completely dealt with, then they get moved to an appropriate folder (also all sorted, and nested).
I guess I’m a real minimalist, and that carries over into pretty well everything. The only stuff out on the kitchen counter is the electric jug, a couple of pot plants and my big yellow pig money box. The dining table is clear. The only stuff on the bathroom counter top is the liquid soap dispenser and a couple of pot plants…..
Funnily enough though, the side table where I sit in the living room is full of my knitting and embroidery supplies, a couple of notebooks, a hand-made embroidered box overflowing with pens, scissors, rulers, tape measure, emery boards, safety pins, pain killer tablets, cleaning cloths for glasses, hand cream, eye drops etc. I really must deal with all that today……..

I use my Macbook for everything and rarely use tabs. A tab might get opened through an email or website link, but everything gets closed when I'm done. I might have a couple windows open and, again, all get closed when I am done. It only takes a letter of two typed in the search bar to bring up what I'm looking for so I don't bother with bookmarks either. Right now I have 2 windows open (2Peas and email) and the email window has 2 tabs open. It makes me crazy when DD hands me her Macbook to read something and she has 100s of tabs open.

Wow, where are all the other higher options? I had to choose "I'm supposed to close them?" because I have 25 tabs open at the moment. Oh, and that's just in one window. I have another five tabs in my second window. Hmmm I'm almost embarrassed to admit how many I have open on my phone.... TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY THREE!
