It is getting worse .. “I don’t know anything about it,” Trump repeated. “You, you’re telling me about it for the first time.” *** If the President is telling the truth and no one’s briefed him about this yet, that’s another story in itself. In any other administration, CoS would have been in the Oval within nanoseconds of learning about something like this, wrote The Atlantic’s Tom Nichols via social media, referring to the White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. Nichols is a retired U.S. Naval War College professor who is an expert on national security, international affairs, Russia, and nuclear weapons. Journalist Wajahat Ali wrote, “What’s worse is that he HAS no idea, allegedly, about the story, which makes it even worse and more terrifying. Like, bro, why don’t you know?” www.rawstory.com/trump-war-plans/

Ooooh boy, the GOP and MAGAts would have lost their ever loving shit if someone in Biden's team had done this. Can you even imagine?! This is really no laughing matter, but I did have a chuckle over the Daily Show's FB post:

Hegseth spouts his words about the deceitful and discredited reporter...... Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth broke his silence hours after a bombshell report in The Atlantic revealed that he and other top-level Trump administration officials shared classified information via a Signal group chat that included a reporter. “Nobody was texting war plans,” Hegseth told reporters outside Joint Base Pearl Habor-Hickam, where he used his first public comments since the colossal error broke to slam the story’s author, Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. “So you're talking about a deceitful and highly discredited so-called journalist who's made a profession of peddling hoaxes time and time again to include the, I don't know, the hoaxes of ‘Russia, Russia, Russia,’ or the ‘fine people on both’ sides hoax, or the ‘suckers and losers’ hoax.” The defense secretary added: “So, this is a guy that peddles in garbage. This is what he does.” Golberg reported earlier Monday of his inadvertent inclusion in the messaging app, where war plans about an imminent strike on Yemen were discussed among the group that is also understood to have also included National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. www.rawstory.com/pete-hegseth-2671396950/I mean great. That sounds like it was extra super duper reckless to add him to the group chat on a highly classified military operation.

It is my understanding that NSA Advisor Mike Waltz was the one who included the Atlantic editor Goldberg.. again I could be wrong.

This administration’s contempt for Europe is laid bare. No more pretence. I imagine Europe is going to be reluctant to share any intelligence they have with our DoD. Goodness only knows to whom Pete Hegseth will send it via Signal. They should have stopped sharing intelligence on 11/5/24 after it was clear that it was unsecured at MarA Lago and he would be potus. It’s clear he sells info to the highest bidder. Anyone still sharing accurate intel with the US after the election is stupid. This is just pure lack of qualifications. BTW the official line about this from sec def is: “ No We DIDNT he’s lying, he’s a known liar. “ 🙄 Like did this guy start drinking in 5th grade and that’s where his brain is frozen?

“I am not sure the president is aware how inconsistent this is with his message on Europe right now,” Vance went on. “There’s a further risk that we see a moderate to severe spike in oil prices. I am willing to support the consensus of the team and keep these concerns to myself. But there is a strong argument for delaying this a month, doing the messaging work on why this matters, seeing where the economy is, etc.” I was smelling a very convenient rat, two leaks in a week where Vance seems is the cautionary, reasonable one. Maybe his camp allowed this, to make him look good. But while I was looking for a link to the Elon-slighting audio I read it's now believed to be fake. sfstandard.com/2025/03/24/jd-vance-elon-musk-leaked-audio-deep-fake/Even if the current administration isn't the brainiest, I still wouldn't put them past setting this up on purpose. What purpose I do not know. There is no way to spin this to make ANYONE look good. In our previous country, people would be impeached for this and/or go to prison for this. In today's world, it's likely just another news story. I hope my jadedness is wrong.

MAGATs: 'chirp, chirp, chirp' Because "it didn't happen." I posted on my FB page a link to the story. Not a single person has reacted or commented. Not that I expected one. I did listen to Fox on the 5 minute ride home. I don't think they were even talking about it. CNN was. That channel is no longer on my new Dish package. But in a clip on TT, Speaker Johnson swept it under the rug. "We don't know how that happened. It will be looked into". When asked if there would be any repercussions "oh, we don't think so." blah blah blah

And Karoline Leavitt said on X that no "war plans" were discussed.
What I do find funny is my son is in the Navy. When his ship was deployed, it was always discussed in the FB parents' group to NOT use WhatsApp or any other apps to communicate. They were not secure and could be easily hacked into. So if young 20somethings know to not talk through apps, why don't grown a** adults supposedly in charge(of the military) know this?

Moreover, from what I read, Signal cannot even be installed on secure government phones because it’s not approved for use (just like every other messaging app), which means they were using personal phones - a whole separate level of risk.

The White House has acknowledged the texts with military info included etc. they are saying it contains no classified info. Signal is not secure and should not be used as it was. In fact they should have gone to a SKIF!!!
If this IS the case, there should be no issues with the Atlantic releasing the transcripts!
Or they are lying and..
Everyone on the call should be released of their positions and that includes VP Vance... Are we sure we want to go there? That would make Speaker Mike Johnson president... What moron would he pu k for VP..??..?? gym Jordan or like,??

The reporter can't publicly disclose the details without opening himself to serious charges, and they know that. And Rs won't allow any congressional investigations a la Benghazi where he could securely disclose exactly what was sent. I'm not sure if Dems can do investigations of their own, but even if they did and got the goods, Rs would just lie and say they hadn't. These are people completely without scruple who don't actually care about US security at all.

What's Fox News' spin on this shit? When the story first broke (saw it on Threads), I checked CNN. It was on there. I checked AP. It was on there. Reuters? On there. NBC? On there. And Fox? Nothing. Oh, a story about how the Snow White actress's woke political views were killing the movie at the box office. I'm not kidding. But security leak? Nothing. It is the lead story on Fox today, but it certainly took them awhile to report it.

I am still completely baffled that Fox, which he has called "Faux News" for years is *STILL* considered a reliable news source to these people who support him. As for the MAGA Peas, they haven't been around because they're too busy celebrating all the winning.

it's going to continue to get worse. whether we like it our not, we need competent career government officials to do their jobs and competent political government officials to do theirs. MAGA is cruel and corrupt. MAGA fired the career and hired unqualified politicals.
Don't blame "DOGE" - put the blame and the credit (if you are happy) where it belongs. On everyone who voted for him.

Seems FF may be protecting Waltz And will let Hegseth fall .. Alyssa Farah Griffin, a communications leader in the first Trump administration who has become an outspoken critic of the president, has a similar take on the matter. "A dynamic here: Mike Waltz is seen as a serious, qualified actor by folks in Washington who don’t support Trump, including on Capitol Hill. Most would see his ouster as a loss for natsec in this WH, as opposed to Hegseth, whose departure would be warmly welcomed," wrote Griffin. The issue, she continued, is that "despite this egregious screw up, Waltz, a decorated Green Beret, who was a senior advisor in the Pentagon during GWB’s administration, is respected across the aisle on Capitol Hill. Not the case, to state the obvious, with Hegseth." www.rawstory.com/pete-hegseth-plans-trump/

The Trumpers really should never show their faces here again. That they are all silent on this is disgusting. You know darn good and well that if Biden's team had done this, he would have been tarred and feathered and hung from a tree on the WH lawn. And the people who I see making excuses for this on FB posts is truly unbelievable. Although I don't even know why I think it's unbelievable any longer.

Houston we have a problem. 😀. Pete’s second question brings up a good point. While some call for an investigation, sadly it won’t happen. And we can count on the Republican majority in Congress will do nothing. Acyn… ”Buttigieg: What if this had, in fact, gone to somebody else? I mean, somebody who could plausibly be in some of these people's cell phones. I don't know, the Chinese ambassador or Russian negotiator. And the other question on my mind is how many other times has something like this happened?” x.com/acyn/status/1904351334721314867?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

Welp, it does appear Senate Democrats are asking questions. Much good it is likely to do them. Some future date, probably: Ossoff - Mr. Chairman, we now have the full transcript of the Signal chat and have determined that there was a major security breach in including a journalist on the thread. Do you stand by your earlier statement that this wasn't a huge mistake? Ratcliffe - Yes Ossoff - Obviously we are not able to release the transcript to the public because of the sensitive nature of the material. So I'll ask you again, was a huge mistake made here? Ratcliffe - No Ossoff -...
ETA: wait, Sen. Warner is smarter than me, thank goodness. "Either none of this is classified or we can't talk about it here. You can't have it both ways."
Still, there's zero hope of any of these idiots being held accountable.

I'm just waiting for them to blame it on Biden. Well, yes they did!! Ok to use for work purposes, but no to classified messages! *** CIA Director John Ratcliffe is blaming President Joe Biden's administration for a conversation on an encrypted app that may have included classified intelligence information.A bombshell report in The Atlantic revealed that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth shared classified war plans in a Signal chat that included a reporter among its membership. *** [Ratcliffe:]One of the things that I was briefed on very early, Senator, was by the CIA records management folks about the use of Signal as a permissible work use. That is a practice that preceded the current administration to the Biden administration." Warner questioned whether Ratcliffe was saying that Signal was a "secure channel." "No, can I — can I answer that?" Ratcliffe asked. "It is permissible to use to communicate and coordinate for work purposes, provided, Senator, that any decisions that are made are also recorded through formal channels. So, those were procedures that were implemented. "My staff implemented those processes, followed those processes, and complied with those processes. So my communications, to be clear, in a Signal message group were entirely permissible and lawful and did not include classified information." Warner said that if the messages weren't classified, the officials should release them. www.rawstory.com/john-ratcliffe-2671423808/

I'm sitting on the "if the conversation wasn't classified, release the transcript" bench. Have they all given Jeffrey Goldberg cover to release it? I mean, they are testifying under oath in a public hearing that nothing classified was included. Another layer to the breach is Middle East Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, was physically in Moscow while participating in this unsecured chat.
