Here are a few pictures of my living room in my tiny apartment so far. If you remember—I’m trying to thrift, buy second hand or make-do as much as I can. And my style is grandma-core.
Seriously—I want it to feel like my grandmother’s house used to feel. And I’ve actually got quite a few things of her’s in here.
So the couch, ottoman and rug were new purchases from IKEA. The white chair in the corner I bought from Crate and Barrel when I bought my house in TX 22 years ago. It was pricey at the time, but a great investment (it has slipcovers, thank God).
The dresser was a FB Marketplace find…just $50. I painted it. The little table in front of the window as also a marketplace find. It was $125, but in near perfect condition and I love it.

My pride and joy is the antique bamboo armoire. It has a door with a huge mirror, but I’m leaving it off for now. I also bought it 22 years ago from a antiques flea market. I think I paid about $400. I love, love my wallpaper, but unfortunately it will have to come down. It is peeling up all the time, and it shrank so there are tiny, but visible, gaps between the panels. It was a cheaper brand, and I know it was a possibility. I’m going to look for a better brand and try it again. I really wanted a blue and white ginger jar and finally found that one (if you look closely) at a local consignment store for $39. They had lots of them that were priced between $300-$800, so I thought that was a steal!

My gallery wall is a work in progress. Eventually, I’m going to wrap it around so it continues just a bit behind the white chair. But I’m being patient looking for pieces I like. The 2 florals are from Target (bought before I got mad at them). The butterfly print is from a local gift shop and the frame was thrifted. The swan, dog and bird are digital downloads from Etsy and thrifted frames. The house is a pen and ink drawing my mom did in HS. The woman is my grandmother. And the “Not fragile like a flower…” print is from Etsy. I go thrifting every week to look for more frames.

The TV is new (to me). My brother gave it to me, but even though it is the same screen size as my last one, the footprint is much smaller. Hence the big gap around it. So I’m going to look for big coffee table books so I can stack them underneath. I think that would look cool. I also need curtains and will probably end up getting them from Amazon. I found some I really love and they’re a good price. I also HATE that big black cable, but haven’t found a solution yet.
I’m not “done”…I never am! And that’s probably more than you ever wanted to know! But if you want to know more, I’ll do my kitchen, next.
