It depends. Sometimes I’m super soaked into it. Other times like right now, I keep rewinding it.
It would drive me nuts if I’m watching a movie with someone who hasn’t seen it and they were doing something else while watching it.

I am nearly always knitting while watching TV. Sometimes not - complicated plot, subtitles that I need to read (foreign language stuff), football or other sport that’s getting too exciting - I had to stop towards the end of last night’s tennis between Sinner and Alcaraz for example. DH usually reads while we’re watching, so neither of us is ‘just’ watching TV.

A typical TV day is General Hospital, the evening news 20-30 min max, streaming something when I eat dinner (we eat lunch together without TV), and streaming about an hour of TV together in the evening.
I am usually doing something while GH is on. Sometimes I'm working one the NY Times puzzles while we are streaming something together depending on how engaging it is. Most of the time I like the shows well enough to give them my full attention.
I used to knit while watching TV but I stopped knitting a couple of years ago.

I used to be able to just watch tv but now I like playing a game on my phone or scrolling. It’s bad and I’m sure my attention span has gone downhill.

Quite often I have my iPad in my hand. Doing the things I like to do. Generally the tv is off. So - I’m usually watching tv while on my iPad. Kind of the opposite situation. If I’m describing it correctly.
eta ~ I have an IPad mini. The size is perfect for my small, weak hands.

Depends on the level of attention to detail needed. If there are a lot of commercials or its something I'm not really into I will scroll my phone, or play a game.

If I need to pay attention I won't be on my phone. I can crochet during any show. I do blankets with long repeative easy rows. I do sometimes just watch.

95% of the time I need something to keep my hands busy or I will fall asleep. A craft or laundry or if I don't have to pay 100% attention, I might play a game on my Switch or phone.

The only time i watch without doing something else is in a movie theater. I'm either playing games on my iPad or doing something like building legos or crafting. The 2nd thing I am doing keeps my brain from wandering. These habits date back as far as I can remember - lots of doodling during class, along with detailed note taking.

Always. If I'm not actively doing something else, the TV/movie puts me directly to sleep. I've tried to change my ways and it simply doesn't work for me.
DH has an attitude of "I don't understand how you do it" because he needs intense focus on anything he does. My late MIL would get very upset with me for not paying attention. I didn't see her often because we live 16 hrs from where she lived, but when we did visit she brought up 'that one time we were watching a movie and YOU READ A BOOK!' Oh the audacity lol Besides, it was a cartoon and I can't watch a cartoon to save my life. She would have had better chances if it had been any other thing lol

Almost always. I knit while watching tv. If there are subtitles (forgein language) my dh reads them to me so I don't miss anything. ❤️

I can't stay awake if I'm watching TV, so I am usually doing something else at the same time.

I don't watch TV. The reason I don't watch TV is because I have spent years training my bipolar brain to focus on one particular thing at a time. It helps me to quiet the thoughts in my head. So in a case where I need to watch something, I am totally involved in what I'm watching. And this prevents me from doing other things which I am compelled to do because ADHD makes me a fidgeter so I don't sit still well. The solution is not to watch TV.

I almost always do something else too unless I’m watching a series with DH where I need to pay attention to the plot or get lost. I’ll come on here, read through emails, read through news updates of the day, play iPad games or sometimes even do Duolingo with one earbud in.

I think with my mom, the fact that I was doing something else was almost insulting--of course my phrasing of watching TV being "doing nothing" certainly didn't help. But to me, with the exception of just a handful or less of shows, I can take TV or leave it, so I feel like it's the perfect opportunity to do a few things at once---be with someone I like spending time with and doing something else I like to do or need to do.

Now, while I do truly enjoy going to the movie theater, that's where if I am not really invested in the movie, then I might start to nod off. I am really into the movie (or if I have kids to wrangle, of course, which was a lot over the past 20 years) then I don't mind being at the movies and just watching the movie without doing anything else. Even if we have a specific movie night at home, I'm less likely to do other stuff. (Except for holiday movies, because we tend to watch a ton of those, so I need to do something else with all of that time.) And in that case a lot of the movies are repeats, so putting up the tree, or writing out cards, or wrapping gifts seems fine since we all know what's going to happen.
