It seems there maybe 2 firefighters deceased. More wounded...
Sheriff states.. Shooter/s using high power rifles. Unknown number of shooters, possible 1-4.
They are actively taking fire now.
Sheriff has advised to neutralize the shooter if they have a clear shot.
They are not able to get to the victims. They believe from early transmissions that the 2 deceased are both Battalion Chiefs from multiple shots. There appear to be at least two others shot, one is in surgery.
Injured are being treated. Maybe as many as 8-9 shot.

Firefighters were responding to a blaze in the panhandle of Idaho when the shooting happened, a sheriff said. The body of a suspect was recovered on Sunday evening
Preliminary information indicates that the suspect acted alone, Sheriff Norris said, adding that the dead man had not been identified. It was unclear how he died. Officials do not believe that the suspect was the same man who called to report the fire, he said. |

I don’t want to jump to conclusions but if people aren’t aware that is an incredibly beautiful area that has become a magnet for white nationalists who have anti-government attitudes and are heavily armed.

I saw a short video last night of the ‘patriots’ (their wording, not mine) cheering the police and fire department as they left the area last night. The word ‘patriot’ makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up these days, particularly when it comes from northern Idaho.

People are also guessing it could be Travis Decker, but if he wanted suicide by cop, he didn't need to go all the way to CDA to do it. I think that's super unlikely.

This is my hometown. I'm leaving to visit in two days. This is surreal. ETA: Aryan Nation started there in the '70s and while that group doesn't really exist anymore, there are plenty of other like-minded individuals and groups in the area. I'd be pretty surprised if the shooter doesn't have some ultra-right affiliations. No one I know has any patience for these asshats. As far as any of us knows they're located somewhere near Sandpoint...a full 65 minutes north of Cd'A. Please. Do not draw associations between that disgusting group and the locals in Cd'A. My daughter called me around 2:30 yesterday to tell me she was "safe". That's how I found out about all of this yesterday. Spent a lot of yesterday on high alert as my family lives there and the police had everyone on "shelter in place". |

They show up unarmed (well, maybe not, but officially they're not there to pull a gun on you) to save lives. This is one of the most evil things I've ever heard.
Also awful to kill police who are literally doing their jobs, but I'm for some reason especially pissed at targeting firefighters. This is like drawing out service dogs and shooting them--they're there for the sole purpose of saving lives.

When he was 7 years old, my son saved his cousin from drowning at a family reunion. Cousin was not breathing and had no pulse when pulled from the water but thankfully my aunt was there was a nurse and was able to revive him. Even back then the news reports were incorrect and all over the place. Details don't seem to matter. IMHO the media is always thinking "must be first, must be first".... at all costs. |

People dropped tvs from high rise apartments onto their ambulance, they would raid the inside of the ambulances when the medics were attending their friends, they would pull knives on the medics and more. It got to the point that they had to refuse to attend some areas unless the people calling them out confirmed there would be residents willing to stand guard over the ambulance. Their uniform used to be similar to the police and at first their normal neck ties were changed to pull-off ties as some of the public would try and throttle the medics with their ties and eventually instead of white shirt, black jacket and trousers the uniform became a green overall to distinguish them from the police. It didn’t stop any attacks, just meant the public knew which group with some authority they were attacking. |
