The quilt I posted above, the stripes are pieced in 2" strips. I will not be doing that. I bought fabric with 1/4" wide striping. You are a wise woman/quilter!

I gotta find my sewing mojo. My 9 year olds birth year temperature quilt is not going to make itself. He turns 10 in March. My goal is to have it done for his birthday. It’s a slightly oversize queen. Same design as the one I made for DD and hers was done before her 10th birthday. It’s HST’s of the low and high for each day. I have all the documentation of temps and fabrics. Just need to buckle down and do it.

I find that when I lose my mojo, it isn't usually about the craft itself but more about the particular project.

I started it. Got all of the first month days done with a “1/4 inch seam allowance” that I used a piece of tape on my machine to do and realized that it’s going to be larger than the one I did for DD and that I despise sewing against tape and that it’s not consistent. So, I restitched using the edge of the foot. It’ll be more than 1/4” but it will be consistent and that’s what matters! I also reached out to a friend who does embroidery (same one who did DD’s) and she is willing to do this one for me too. She going thru a horrific divorce and said she would love a project to distract her. My current plan is to do a month as a time chain stitched. I can’t really do the rows until I get the enbroidery done. I can do partial rows I guess? Dunno. But it’s started 😊

Tapatalk users! (That might be you jeremysgirl!). Have you noticed if your photos uploaded via Tapatalk have disappeared? I saw this on a different pro boards forum I’m on, all my photos have gone from April backwards. I came here and photos from April backwards that I posted have gone, possibly May too I don’t think I posted photos in May.

My background fabric came. I knew I liked the boldness of the stripes but I also loved the ones in the softer colors. So I'm working them together.

I knit one round of a sock last night and felt very accomplished 😂 I intended to do more but I knew I was too tired to concentrate. It feels good that the desire to do it is there though. We're still staying with friends and doing jobs at our new house. If it doesn't get too hot today I'm going to be working on the front garden, the decades of masonry paint needs removing and I'm hopefully going to be prepping to plant a lawn. @ jeremysgirl your fabrics look great together.

Just shared this on wellway's thread, but wanted to share here as well. The Great British Sewing Bee has a new season starting on July 15. And for the first time ever, we can easily watch it here in the US! Finally!!! Even better, all the past 10 seasons are available to watch now. The Roku Channel is streaming it. I just signed up for an account and the first seasons are available to watch free with ads. Now to add the Roku app to my Apple TV.

(I don't have a clue how TV/streaming works). Maybe I can watch it. I'll ask him to find it.

It's a shame no one here likes decorating for Halloween. Wool Warehouse is selling Sirdar packs for a medium sized Halloween themed blanket. You need to sign up at Sirdar to get the pattern when it's released and Wool Warehouse gives a link for that. The blanket is quite cute but the white they have chosen makes it too clean for me. I'd be swapping the white in the corners for something like the grey of the cobwebs and I'd consider black for the centre white. I'm not doing it though. Halloween blanket CAL

My sewing machine is in timeout. My top thread keeps getting jammed up under the needle plate with the bobbin thread. It was doing just fine and boom- chunked up thread and not working. I’ve opened the bobbin compartment, cleaned it out with a little brush, put it back together, rethreaded the machine. So, tomorrow we might be on talking terms again. Progress on DS’s temp quilt: I’ve sewn and pressed the high/low triangles for March thru May. I just started sewing each square together. Made it thru 15 before my machine became a jerk. I have lots of HST cut, paired, and ready to be sewn. I’ve also got piles of cut HST waiting to be mated. I painted clothespins with chalkboard paint so I could write on them with a chalk marker. They’re how I’m labeling everything. So far it’s working great! I was cutting the HST with my die and big shot and it wasn’t fully cutting in a spot on the die so I investigate- the damn steel cutting blade is bent! Of course that die is no longer made 😫. I found another die with the dog ears cut off that is supposed to be the same size on eBay and bought it. Should be here next week sometime. $25 I was trying to not spend because I don’t get a check for July. BUT then I discovered that eBay has Venmo and I have cash there from Christmas elves so I’m good to go. ❤️

seaexplore have you adjusted the tension on your bobbin holder by tightening the little screw on it? That was usually the problem when my machine did that. Don’t tighten it too much, little by little.

The needlepoint finisher sent a photo of the first six ornaments I had shipped out in April and they turned out so well! They are in the mail now and I should have them by Wednesday! She currently has two more she is working on. Now I've got to get busy and get some more completed to send out. Currently working on Commander's Palace and the CDG travel tag. Yesterday I finally got the 'baby' quilt laid out. In a first for me I laid it out once, decided it looked good and went with that! Typically I will make numerous layouts, take photos and then take forever to decide. Will spend time today putting the rows together.

Don’t tighten it too much, little by little. I don’t even know how to do that! 😂. It sews well and then pulls this crap. I’m going to start with a new needle when I get to my machine today. I have no idea how long the current needle has been in use. Then I’m going to rethread start to finish and do the same with the bobbin. Fingers crossed.

I'm going to suggest a quick search on YouTube for tension issues, bobbins etc. There are loads of helpful videos on there, maybe even for your actual machine. Worth a quick look.

Fixed! I took it apart, new needle, rethread top and bobbin. The thread kept getting hung up on the part around the bobbin. I did the needle up/down with the plate off and the bobbin out and saw where it was getting stuck. Ran it a few times up and down and it quit getting caught so I put it back together and sewed some (and it looked fine) but it sounded like a chugging train and the bobbin was bouncing- WTF? Take it apart and notice that on the bobbin holder part (mine's plastic) there was a rough spot where it looks like the needle hit it maybe. Pulled that out, sanded it down smooth with 400 grit paper, put it back together and it's sewing totally smooth with no chugging. So, I'm happily sewing again.
I've been doing the strips that I can since I've got to meet up with my friend to give her the fabric for her to embroider on. My die will be here Friday next week so I can cut more triangles. I think I'm going to like the lack of dog ears on the finished squares. I need to go in and cut all of them off the strips I've done I think? Maybe clean up the threads on the back? I waited until my dd's quilt was totally put together to cut the strings and it was so not fun. If I do it as I go along it might be more manageable? Anyone who quilts- do you tidy up the threads on the back?

seaexplore when that happens to me it is usually because my thread has slid off the arm that pumps up and down. I don't know what it is about my machine but this seems to happen quit a bit. I see further down you fixed it! And yes I tidy up threads on front and back.
