We JUST bought a Toyota Sienna. We looked at so many cars of all sizes. It’s a hybrid AWD, gets 36 mpg city and highway. I freaking LOVE this car more than any we’ve had. I really thought we’d go smaller. But reality hit. We are minivan people. So comfortable on the road. And looks amazing. I think it is the sexiest minivan I have ever seen! Love the space and the ability to seat people in the third row. Something we did not think was going to happen, but we are already taking people to the airport tomorrow! We would have regretted the Subaru Forester hybrid already and that WAS our first pic. Our old bones need some cushion, not rattling!

We went from a Honda Odyssey to a Toyota Rav4 hybrid. I love the way the Toyota handles and the mpg, so no regrets My 4DSs are all older and out of the house, but I do miss the larger cargo area, and if the van got good mileage I would have got another. Did you get the Prime (plug-in hybrid)? I did, and I bought it at Roseville Toyota.

I went from a Lexus RX to a RAV4 … both mid-size SUVs, not much of a size difference … and I’m glad I did NOT downsize. Although I live alone now, there are still plenty of circumstances where I need more space. Driving a carful of my grandson’s friends around, packing up most of my crafting supplies to attend 4-day crops every month or two, doing airport runs for visiting relatives. A larger (not giant) size car works for me. I had a Lexus RX and went about two months ago into a Subaru Ascent. I wasn’t really in the market for a new car but one of our sons and his family moved to Spain and didn’t want to take the larger car to the smaller streets where they would be living. Her Subaru had less than 40K miles on it so it just seemed like a good idea (my RX had 180K). We are actually loving the larger size. We are occasionally using the third row seating going places with friends and definitely love the larger cargo space as I’m a big estate sale & auction goer.

I wish I had known more about the Prime, as much of my driving is shorter trips. If I ever need/want to replace, I will definitely consider a plug-in hybrid.

Most of my driving is local and I rarely need to fill the gas tank. When I do use gas, it gets great mileage. Love this car. It wasn’t cheap, but it works great for me.

I drove a Mitsubishi space star for years, a perfect «town car». Then we bought a horse (and a trailer to ferry said horse around) so I bought a bigger car. If I didn’t have a horse, I would’ve continued driving a small car.

I regret getting an even yet bigger vehicle I cannot get into. It’s lovely and we paid a lot of money for it. It’s just so high for me to get into.🙄🤷🏼♀️

My son had runners put on his truck because it was too high for me. I saw a minivan uber with a step under the sliding door.

Well, I’m still not sure if my van will be able to be fixed or not yet. DH thinks I should get another van because we fill it up pretty full when we go to baseball tournaments or my mom’s for the weekend. I’ll have to think about it.

Like ntsf and PLurker, DH and I have a Subaru Impreza hatchback. Before that, we had a Nissan Sentra. FWIW, it's just the two of us (no kids except for the cat), and it's very comfy. DH was worried he wouldn't like it since he'd never had a hatchback before, but we love it! As I've mentioned around here before, we probably seemed like the biggest hillfolk the dealership had ever dealt with because we were excited to get a back-up camera (our Nissan was a '13 and didn't have one). It gets great mileage, is a zippy little thing, and suits our needs just fine. We're a one car household and it suits us just fine.

My kids are teens and (hopefully) will be going off to college over the next two years. I've always said at that point I'd trade my Odyssey for a smaller SUV but I'm having a hard time seeing how that will work for us. We fill it to the brim going to our family cabin 1-2x a year. But even then sometimes we can't take it cuz it doesn't have 4wd. I don't trust car rentals for that feature cuz you never know if they will actually have a 4wd car for you. Currently if needed we use my son's Pilot. But it's a tight squeeze with the dog's crate. I don't see how a smaller car would work. While the kids are still young enough to be bouncing back and forth from our home and wherever they go to school.
