Unfortunately they are finding more people.... Last I saw over 100.... That is so sad. The number really jumped.

Just read that one of the missing 8-year-old girls from Camp Mystic, Virginia Hollis, is from our area, Bellville, TX. Green ribbons are going up around town in support of Camp Mystic and all the families affected. Please keep Virginia and the others in your prayers. 💚

My niece's friend's daughter Greta is one of those still missing. Oh no - that’s the girl from Sinclair Elementary in HISD, I think. I hope they get some closure soon.

My niece's friend's daughter Greta is one of those still missing. Oh no - that’s the girl from Sinclair Elementary in HISD, I think. I hope they get some closure soon. It is. Also just found out a friend/former coworker's parents' house was destroyed by the flash flooding. Fortunately they were not home and are safe.

I'm sick over all this TBH. One of DH's employees knows Greta's mom (small world) and also the parents of two girls from another school in that area who are missing. Of course property loss isn't the same as losing a child, but it's awful and harrowing in its own way. I read that at that camp, the youngest girls sleep in the cabins closest to the river, and the older ones have cabins a bit further away. So all these missing girls who were swept away are elementary school aged. I just can't get over it.

This is long, but worth reading if you've got friends or family sharing "viral" videos claiming that cloud seeding somehow caused this flood. From a local meteorologist.

I’ve wondered why the youngest campers were in the cabins closest to the river. That would kind of scare me as a parent. Someone online posted it was because those cabins are closest to the main camp activities. The senseless loss of life is overwhelming.

I've been watching the reports and stories, tributes on TikTok in horror. My daughter attended a similar camp during her school years here in California (Lake Hume) and she had the best time and looked forward to going every summer. I can't imagine the anguish and pain these poor families are going through, knowing their precious babies/loved ones are never coming back, and having the knowledge that their last hours on earth were filled with terror. Oh Lord it makes my heart ache.
So many thoughts I have on this but I'll save those other opinions for the political threads. I'm posting my prayers and love for my fellow Peas who have been touched by this tragedy.

Leading up to the election and after upset me so much I had to disengage from SM. I've been on a FB hiatus even longer. It was starting to make me hate my own extended family members. But I am happy to be back! workingclassdog was always good to check in on me, she's the best ever!

Huge hugs to each of you worried about someone you know/love. This truly devastating tragedy is beyond horrific. Gut-wrenching to think/read about... and that's for those of us not personally affected.
I wonder if World Central Kitchen is in the area helping out. If so I'll send $$. (Not a fan of the Red Cross and some other orgs)

They have found 5 Mystic camp girls, 5 more and a counselor are still missing.
A Uvalde family who lost a DD in the school shooting has loaded a truck with goods and supplies to go to Kerrville. The mom works for branch if a company based in Kerrville and the company was very good to their family during the Uvalde aftermath!

I just heard.. 109 confirmed dead another 160 plus missing... so sad Abbott reports: Here's the latest: • Scores missing after floods: More than 160 people are known to be missing in Kerr County as a result of the flooding in central Texas, according to Gov. Greg Abbott, who cited “combined law enforcement efforts.” At least a dozen others are missing in other parts of the state, he said. Separately, officials confirmed that more than 110 people have died. • Alert system under scrutiny: Abbott, who spoke at a news conference today in the devastated area, said the emergency alert system would be addressed during a special session of the state legislature later this month. • Certification at camp: Two days before the flooding, a state inspector visited Camp Mystic, the youth camp in the county, and certified that it had an emergency plan in place and that its cabins and other buildings were safe, records obtained by CNN show. www.cnn.com/weather/live-news/texas-flooding-camp-mystic-07-08-25-hnkAnother man being interviewed just now says even that is low number considering the number of RVs in the area .. he said maybe closer to 400+

Just found out that 2 boys who move in DD's "orbit" (acquainted with but isn't friends with) and their 2 cousins have died. She was down there on Sunday helping transport shelter animals, and she said seeing it in person is a million times worse than the photos.

(Not a fan of the Red Cross and some other orgs) I have gone back and forth on who I wanted to donate to. I refuse to donate to the Red Cross. I finally decided to give to the HEB Disaster Relief Fund. They say 100% goes to the flood victims and I trust them. I like that they included flood victims in Travis, Williamson and other counties too who have been overlooked in a lot of it. It’s all just so sad and heartbreaking. I just saw the flooding in Ruidoso, NM. That makes me incredibly sad too. We honeymooned there and DH's parents had a vacation home there for years.

I have never been to NM, but I'm sad that so much of the planet is in such dire straits. (A friend's husband is delayed returning from Alaska due to huge and numerous fires there.) We made a substantial donation to WCK, I feel really good about the work that they do, and the courage it takes to go to many of the places they go to serve suffering people all over. Wish we could do more. There are so many good people doing heroic work, and so very many people grieving, suffering, hoping beyond hope.

Friends of ours left today to spend a month there. It’s such a beautiful place. That makes me sad too.
