Good Morning.
I'm thinking of sueg, her family and baby Enzo. My healing thoughts are going his way. Let's continue to keep baby Enzo in our thoughts and prayers.
How is everyone doing today?
jeremysgirl, how are you feeling today? I'm thinking of you.
I have a very quiet day. It's been so busy the past few days and I'm glad to have a day w/o any activities apart from voice practice.
What are you up to today?
Dinner will be something w/zucchini and yellow squash. We have an abundance of squash. I probably need to focus on the peppers, as well.
What's on your menu?
May you have an easy, happy and serene day!

Happy Tuesday!
I've been wrangling with the sprinklers today as we're scheduled for 99+ degrees for the foreseeable future and no rain in sight. The backyard one works well but I can't get a good seal on the hose of the front spigot. I think i'll have to have my BIL come over and look at them.
Work is fairly slow today which is good because I have a lot of stuff to do before I leave on Thursday. Mom is back to not eating much so we're trying to take meals to her. I made spaghetti last night so I will take her some at lunch.
My sister was busy with her DD last night helping to get her classroom ready for kids so we didn't take dinner up to our other sister. I think we will tonight so I'll just have whatever they're having.
Hope you all have a great day!

Copying this from my 7/21 post because clearly I'm incapable of reading the date... 🙈 Hi friends! Long time no chat. Sending everyone love and hugs! tmarschall If DH had gotten that job in '24, we could've met up for coffee! Oh well. Life goes on, right? He's still been upset about the fact he didn't get the job last week, and he's been missing his mom who passed in '18 and his grandfather, who passed away 20 years ago this month. On the plus side, he just got offered a different interview for later this week! (Like, literally offered the interview this morning and it's on Thursday.) It is not exactly the position he has been looking to move into, but it could lead to something in the future. And it gets us out of this area - we've been in the DC area for over a decade, and we're ready for a new adventure. Dinner this week is burrito bowls. Have a great week, and know I'm thinking of all of you if I don't check in!

What grade does your niece teach, Tearisci ? I got to help my ods when he set up his first classroom. The bummer was that he wouldn't let me do much, because he wanted to do it all. So, I spent a few hours scrubbing the white board and shelving books.
rymeswithpurple, I'll think good thoughts for your dh's interview. I hope that the job is a great fit and that he's their top candidate.

how are you feeling today? I'm dragging a bit. Nose still a little stuffy. But that can't be the real reason behind what I've got going on. I went for a walk yesterday before I posted and then I ate something for lunch and then laid down on the couch. I could not sleep, though I wanted to. I just can't nap. So I forced myself off the sofa and DSD and I went shopping. We went all the way across town to the mall because I had a gift card for that bookstore. I bought books. Jeremy's sister gave me a gift card to Hobby Lobby (I know, I know) but rather than let it go to waste, I bought kitchen stuff for Jeremy's oldest daughter who will be moving into her own place soon. And then I hit up Wholefoods since I was way over there. I hadn't been in since going plant based so it was interesting to walk around and look at the things. I did the grocery shopping I needed to do there and then we came home. I had been looking for a particular cookbook. But I didn't find it. I got home and unpacked the groceries and Jeremy had forgotten to pick up my medicine on his way home. So I headed out to the pharmacy and stopped at the B&N on my side of town. They didn't have the book I was looking for either. But...they had the three additional cookbooks put out by the Bad Manners people (I had two of the five) and so I took the birthday money Dad gave me and bought all three of the cookbooks! All the running kind of perked me up. So I came home to make dinner and then cleaned up the kitchen. This is why I think it's depression. Because I feel better when I get up and moving. My friend and I will be walking on our lunch hour today. Work is fairly slow today which is good because I have a lot of stuff to do before I leave on Thursday. Why is there always so much stuff to do before and after a vacation? I hope you have a good time with your friend. sueg sounded this morning like Baby Enzo is starting to do better. I'm glad. May it continue. I'm making a dish tonight with rice, eggplant, green beans, tomatoes and chickpeas. Lots of garam masala seasoning. Yum! Here's the cookbooks. I had the two on top and I bought the three on bottom yesterday. These cookbooks are the bomb naby64

It's another cool, cloudy rainy day here ... not normal for this time of the year ... This weather does not help my motivation at all ... I will leave soon to pick a few thing up at the grocery store ... Then I will do pretty much nothing! Oh, I need to clean and descale my Keurig! I haven't even thought about dinner ... Continued positive thoughts for baby Enzo! Glad you are feeling better jeremysgirl! Best of luck to your dh rymeswithpurple!

sueg I was so happy to see your update that baby Enzo is doing better. I have to do a few errands this morning then will be working in my craft room when I get home. DH would like to go to a movie but there is literally nothing that interests us. Our Super Walmart is doing a complete redo of the store and everytime I go in, it's like a treasure hunt to find stuff. I used to make my shopping list in the order of where the items were. That's out the window now. They even moved the self-checkout to the opposite side of where they were! Dinner will be Jalapeno Chicken Poppers steaks on the grill.

jeremysgirl, you know your body and mind so well. Getting up and out is the best thing for depression. I wholeheartedly agree. I hope that your depression ends very quickly and that you feel much better. I just read sueg's latest post and it sounds like baby Enzo is doing better. That's very good news.

Happy Tuesday dinner friends! I've been absent for a few days, I've read the thread a few days but this new position is keeping me hopping. sueg Sending prayers for baby Enzo, I was so happy to hear a better report today. I hope he is now on the right path. Is it possible that he could be on a monitor and/ or Oxygen when he comes home? That can give the family some peace of mind and alleviate some of the worry. jeremysgirl I'm glad your party went well. The books you picked up look interesting. Sending hugs and prayers for everyone, I feel disconnected with everyone at the moment. I don't officially start the new position until Monday, but I'm already so much busier than I was before, The girl I'm mentoring is sort of a mess. Her clients aren't happy, she's disorganized and not being overly receptive to my suggestions. I have a feeling this could get ugly and won't reflect well on me. I'm giving it my best effort and thankfully the new manager that I'm assisting with her responsibilities is chill and happy to have me on her team. Dinner is taco tuesday, I leave for a quilt retreat tomorrow afternoon, I will be working while I'm there, so not sure how much I'll accomplish, but it will be good to see the sewing tribe again. Wishing everyone a great day!!

You deserve to play too! The books you picked up look interesting. They are all plant based. No animal products. And these guys gave me my favorite burger and my favorite burrito.

eeeek, I missed the news about Baby Enzo’s breathing problems while I was gone! Glad to read further that he is improving, but all the same. sueg, I’m thinking of you and all the family. Hang in there. Weekend crop was fun. Ate out 2 meals a day and junk food in between. I am trying to keep it to real food now that I’m home. So today I have chemo and that’s it for the day. Think I’ll make spaghetti for dinner when I get home. That sounds good. I have zucchini and broccoli, too. ETA happy 50th birthday, jeremysgirl!

prayers for baby Enzo suegEnjoy your new cookbooks @jeremeysgirl Good luck with your dh's job hunt rymeswithpurpleRainy and stormy here today so staying inside - ok - I was staying inside anyway, it's a Florida summer AND I have a sore on my foot that I'm babying (I see the podiatrist tomorrow) Dinner is a spinach and cheese crescent roll thing - I think the original recipe was for appetisers cut into small triangles but I've always made it as bigger squares for dinner. We have cherries as well.

jeremysgirl, I have one of those that you show. I can't remember exactly which one. I got a used one on Amazon and dang if I can tell it was ever cracked open. I had the others checked out from the library as ebooks but I am old school on cookbooks. I want to flip and mark and notate in a real book. Off to Amazon to see which one I ordered and get another in my cart! I hope you have a good walk. I have been away as I needed to get things done. Both at home and in the office. I've sort of glimpsed and scanned the threads though. Still sending prayers up for baby Enzo sueg. Things are brewing here at church/work and I am trying hard to stay positive and keep repeating Not My Circus, Not My Monkeys but it sort of is. I am the finance person here. I know how much we get and exactly what the bills are. And it ain't pretty. However, we are in need of several MAJOR $$ repairs and things and our quarterly business meeting is this Sunday. I have always stayed impartial in the matter of voting and giving my opinion. But my tongue is so sore from biting it. It's a fine line I have to walk as a member of the church and a member of the staff. I walked out of the meeting Sunday and ran into the Minister of Music. I told him I hate the people of this church. Now, really, what staff member should ever say things like that? But I did. And I meant it. sigh... and I need to calm down again. Dinner is something I won't have to think about. I am meeting a couple of friends for dinner. Don't know where we are going but I know the pickings will be slim for what I would like to eat. So I may just have to have a cheat meal. I'll do chicken or fish if I can't find anything else. I am sending hugs, prayers, positive thoughts for all those that need them. I have had a bit of spiraling this week and trying to work out of that. Spending time in my little pool Saturday and Sunday helped. I'll come back and share something in a bit. When I can get to my phone for posting.

austnscrapaddict , can you talk to your supervisor about your staff member, in order to cover your Buttski? Maybe if you're proactive then blame won't fall upon you. Drop in whenever you're able to, because you are missed when you aren't here. Have fun at your quilt retreat. lucyg , I hope that you'll nurture yourself and be extra kind to yourself after chemo. ((((HUGS)))). AussieMeg , I saw you yesterday. Please come back. You're part of our dinner tribe.
naby64, you have friends here to listen and encourage you. ((((HUGS)))).

scrapmaven, leannec, Linda Thank you, friends! I am going to take the day off. He always uses my laptop for his interviews, and I'm not accruing leave time right now because I hit the max. We will probably go out and do something after again. I did a little research for him online, and it seems like a good group of folks that he'll be interviewing with. He'll work on his "cheat sheet" tonight, and have that ready to go so he can ensure he mentions everything he wants to.

I just wish you could easily move on from there. I'm not accruing leave time right now because I hit the max. Never do this. Take your time off. You earned it.

I just wish you could easily move on from there I am getting closer to the thought of leaving. Not quite yet. I promised myself a year to do nothing and make no major decisions. However, if the right house came up for sale near the 2 older kids and the right job came along and my house sold quickly, I'd be gone. I have such good friends here and the line is very blurry on what a church member can say and what I, as a staff knows and can say. You know so much more of all the things when you work here. And you have to keep your personal thoughts and knowledge to yourself. Like how the pastor is such a wonderful guy.(except to work with he's hell) The new pastor's gleam is rubbing off. And Renee is getting ready to start speaking.

Here's what I wanted to share. I've done three of these now. The Conquerer Challenge. You pick walks of varying lengths and then do your normal walking or other exercise counts also. This is my most recent. The Van Gogh Challenge. I can't wait to get them all up on the huge bulletin board in my home office. They are heavy duty like a real race medal. This one opens and looks like a painting easel and comes with tiny little prints. The prices vary from challenge to challenge. I think the next one I'll do is the Great Sniffari. You walk your dog and even they get a tiny medal.

Just know neither of you will ever be able to reason things out about him getting or not getting a position. He could be the most qualified candidate on the planet and not get it. There are a million factors that go into an academic hire. And even with the best efforts to legitimately reduce bias in the process, they can still be crazy. I'm on a search committee right now. We had hoped to wrap it up in mid May as I reallllllllly needed to have at least part if ny summer on a total break from school related functions. It is STILL dragging on. The antic start date is Aug 1st! Not happening. We are ready to wrap up our oart by Fri and then the Dean will make her choice from 2 we out forward. But her mother also just passed, so it's unclear if the Assoc Dean will step in or it will wait til she returns. And that's not even about the turmoil within the committee...some serious bad behavior, one person replaced with another, candidates withdrawing, it's a lot. And this is generally not the time for academic searches to still be in the thick of it. Faculty searches start in the fall for hires for the next fall. Candidates usually know by about March. We had an unusual situation with a position open due to termination so we are struggling to find someone who hasn't already been snapped up. Staff is different...I don't remember what kind of position your dh is looking for. He may have more flexibility/options at this time of the year if he is staff. The good news if he is staff is that the calls will go out soon for this year. The bad news, they won't start til Fall 26. Wishing you both the best of luck...I hear you wanting like heck to move. I was the opposite. I had a set geographical location and you can't just expect job in your field in your town. You have to go where the jobs are. Which is why I have an hr and 29min commute, despite there being a campus of ny school just 15 min from me. People ask why I dont just transfer. Its not like working retail....their social work faculty is full. No position available. I keep my ears and eyes open but I'm likely here for the duration. Its been 7yrs I. December. Well, I talked myself out of finishing up at my mother's assisted living. Maybe Thursday. Now Im focused on getting ready for my houseguest tomorrow. Some sprucing up, new curtains, couch cover and pillows and rugs. Declutteribg...it is never ending. I will never be able to sit and have a cup of coffee in my sleek zen home, even though my anxiety would love it! I have class tonight. Please keep my students in mind. I had one find that her 38yr old son passed, perhaps of an undiagnosed medical issue. She is fighting her second round of cancer and he had moved in to help her. And another student has had a close family member picked up by ICE and they are struggling to believe able to talk to him, get representation, etc. Wishing everyone well, still thinking of Baby Enzo and hoping fhe continues to improve quickly. I was in an incubator for many weeks (9? 10?) bc I was so early and tiny. I can't imagine how hard it was to want to hold your baby constantly and not be able to. Sending good thoughts, sueg.

Another gorgeous day here - sunny and 25 C. We are doing a whole lot of nothing but sitting on the deck. We get up every so often to get a snack but that’s about it.
I did have an eye dr appt that I had to go into the city for this morning. It was my yearly diabetic eye check and everything was fine for another year. I stopped at Walmart and got the fixings for chicken fajitas for supper. It will be a quick supper and then off to grandboy #1’s baseball game.

Just back from visiting mom. She's refusing to eat the food there so we've been bringing her in some meals and she's been drinking meal replacement drinks. The problem with those is they have a lot of carbs and it shoots her blood sugar up so she's high all the time. The problem with any solid food is that she chokes on it and it aspirates to her lungs. She is hungry for soup though so we're going to start bringing that to her. My dad and sister think she might be close to the end, but she has rallied before. Dad spoke with the hospice chaplain today and was able to get some prayers and guidance. I feel guilty about leaving on Thursday because it puts everything on my sister but I also need a break. It's just all very sad

I was up and out early for a dental appt. I chipped a crown last week…darn Skinny Pop popcorn. No more pop corn for me😕 Thankfully it was an easy fix that only cost me my 100 dollar deductable . DH is at the dentist as we speak getting a new bridge made….That being said I am making potato leek soup for dinner as I don’t think he will feel like eating much. I have some crusty bread I took out of the freezer that I will heat in the oven to go with.

karenlou Oh, what I wouldn't do for only paying $100 at the dentist. DH has had the worst dental luck this year, and our coverage won't pay for anything else, so we've been paying OOP since April. He may need a gum graft next month, and I really hope that takes care of all his woes. It all sounds miserable to me since I've never even had a cavity. I always tell him he is why we have dental insurance and I'm why we have vision insurance. Hope you both aren't in too much pain!

I missed that baby Enzo was having breathing difficulties. Keeping him in my prayers. I’m back in Michigan for my DD’s surgery tomorrow. Minor knee surgery but that pesky blood clotting disorder complicates it. I stopped at my nephew’s in the Ferndale area of Detroit on my way to meet their new baby. She’s about 4 weeks old now. Then I promptly got lost leaving the neighborhood and the area went south real quick. Dd & I are going for tacos for dinner. Yesterday we took Luke, Juliet & Bennett to the zoo. Luke loved taking the babies. @rhymeswithpurple I hope things go well for your dh’s interview. My bff works at a university and has been on lots of search committees. She really hates them. She’s always complaining they never choose the right candidates. Then they they have to start over in a few months. austnscrapaddict enjoy quilting. Try to head off the problems that girl is going to cause for you.

karenlou Ouch! I told DH that if it's offered as an individual option whenever he gets a new job, he's signing up for their dental plan too. He's on my insurance right now because the benefits are much better compared to what he had when he was on his own once we didn't work for the same employer. Definitely was the right call when his position was eliminated there in 2020. teddyw Thank you! I know I'm biased, but DH is one of the most caring and hard working people I know. He wants the students he works with to do well. He was complaining to me earlier that someone wrote an email to a student telling them to Google something instead of just providing the direct link on their website. It annoyed him so much.

jeremysgirl those books look very interesting. I love the covers on the first one, and the Party Grub one. I should take a trip out my my local library and see if they have them. (I don't even know where my local library is! I haven't been there since DS was little, and I think it's moved since then.) My son has been in NZ for the last week, with his girlfriend. From the photos he's sent me, it seems that all they're doing is eating! Maybe he should join the dinner tribe. It's so weird to me that the boy who wouldn't even eat mashed potatoes or plain rice, has turned into such a foodie (although he still doesn't eat mashed potato). I tried a new dish for dinner: Smashed dumpling tacos. (It's a Facebook link). I have seen so many versions of this dish all over social media lately, so I finally decided to try it. They are SO GOOD!! And so ridiculously easy.
