Good update Ugh...staying at the hospital as a family member kind of sucks. But I know sometimes it has to be done. Remember to take care of yourself too. Most times we sacrifice ourselves for the good of our loved ones.

Friday update: rough day! He walked a little this morning. Tried again but things went awry. Not sure what happened. They will fill me in once settled down.
Worried about finances and his work isn’t paying him his annual bonus which was due right now. They will pay it when he returns but we could use it now to cover the insurance. I’m trying to keep him out of it to keep him calm. Anyways.. enough of that.
Hopefully this afternoon is better!

Hi all… thanks for thinking of us. The surgery went great. Four bypasses. He was in ICU yesterday and this morning and transferred into a regular room. Which was earlier than expected. He’s done a couple of walks and doing his breathing thing. Tonight will probably be on the bad side as the meds from surgery are wearing off. I’m staying the night again. I did go home and took a nap and shower. I just hate leaving him by himself. Anyways everything is going as good as expected. Yay. The best part is they got him up and walking. It's the first part of rehab. As for sleep he'll be OK. Did he get a pillow? The Queen got me a heart shaped one. Please keep us posted with his progress. As a former "CABG" I care. ![]() Thanks Don. He has a pillow!! Not the cute heart one though. CABG is the new word for sure!

Not much you can do about it right now. Remember he will be so much better for having the surgery,!!

Good update! I agree with whoever said that you should just hand him pain meds on a schedule without much fanfare. It's always better to keep ahead of the pain than to try to catch up. Also, it's good that you're staying with him because it pays to keep your eyes on what's going on. Nurses are angels of course, but everywhere is so short-staffed these days and it's nice if at least some patients have family with them to fetch things that someone without family would be ringing the bell for. That gives the nurses time to do everything else they need to.
Hopefully he'll be home soon, where everything will be more comfortable.

Glad to hear that the surgery went well and I am so sorry to hear that it has come with financial stress.

FWIW: from the patient's POV
When my brother had heart bypass surgery, he said on the 3rd day after surgery, he just wanted to tell everyone to get out of his room, and then he wanted to pull the sheet over his head and hide from the world.
After I shared that, a few friends said they had the same reaction/feelings on the 3rd day.

One nurse said everyone feels okay on day two and grateful to be alive and day three you just want to know why you did this and want to die. She hit the nail on the head. Exactly how he felt. I have to say we have had the MOST EXCELLENT staff helping us. I don’t think DH is even want to come home without them.

So glad it all went well. Sending wishes for his continued recovery (and your sanity, if your DH is anything like mine after things like this)!

Wishing your dh a comfortable and healthy recovery. You'll be by his side and his doctors and nurses are taking great care of him. He'll likely need some rehab and encouragement, but he will be OK.
