I too think the one woman was a little confused at first, but when the one in red got angry, it was like crap, we got caught! Glad this is going viral, and hopefully their friends/family get to see how these women probably really are. What scum.

I am amazed at how indignant they were when caught!
I have to applaud the man filming for staying so calm...I would not have. I have a mouth on me and I am afraid I would not have been so kind...

Okay, so the first thing I need to say is that I absolutely do not condone theft of any thing at all ever. But. I am a dork. A big old dork who is quite often forgetful and doesn't always pay attention to her surroundings. And I can get turned around and confused at the drop of a hat. While I have never started to abscond with a beach canopy, I HAVE accidentally plopped my fat ass in someone else's chair. I have stood over what I thought was all my shit and reached a hand into what I thought was my cooler and grabbed a water. What I am saying is that I have, on more than one occasion made my self at home at someone else's beach station because I was totally not paying attention. I am not saying that these women were like me and just royally messed up and were masking their humiliation with anger, or if they were really trying to steal his stuff-but I appreciated his initial approach that allowed for an error. I love going to the beach with my kid. He keeps me steered in the right direction. Yes I felt the larger woman was believable when she seemed confused. I mean I would have to know how many hours was the canopy sitting there unattended. Or maybe their chairs were just down the beach somewhere. I also thought the one in orange looked legitimately confused. But - neither one said: "OMG - we thought this was ours!" - wouldn't you say that?

Maybe if they made a reality show catching people on video in the act of stealing stuff they'd stop doing it. That's really sad.

Since I have done such stupid things, the first thing I do is apologize profusely and have offered to pay for my pilfered drink. It is so embarrassing, but it is the confusing is pretty easy to do. There isn't that much variety in chairs and coolers.

I went to Fiesta Texas a few weeks ago with a friend, and I brought my BOB jogging stroller. Since I knew we'd be leaving the stroller unattended in the waterpark for a few hours, I decided to bring one of our bike locks. Locked my stroller up to the tree next to a picnic table. When we were done swimming for the afternoon, we started taking the kids in groups to get changed. My friend was sitting at the picnic table while I was in the changing room, and some lady came up and was trying to figure out how to unlock the stroller. My friend was like, "Is this your jogging stroller?" The lady looked at her and kept on trying the lock. She didn't stop until I walked up. She started running her mouth about how she thought it was her stroller. So glad that I brought the lock, and will continue to lock it up on all our future visits.

Geeze, you can just hear the balls clanking on that lady in red. She never once said "oops, sorry, my mistake." I would have been falling over myself apologizing.

The lady in red looks like Patricia Cornwell! I'm sure it's only a matter of time until they are identified.

The thing is, they had to know it belonged to someone who was probably in the area. I hope it reaches everyone who knows them. Would love a follow up with their response after the fact to getting caught!

Come on...even if you were confused, when you really stopped and looked around you wouldn't then realize, "Oh yeah, that towel isn't mine!" or "Crap...those chairs do look a bit different from ours!". And even if you were still confused, when the guy points out that the kids are his, you should then really get that you are in the wrong spot and APOLOGIZE. Not get mouthy at the guy and try to attack him. Sheesh! I can't tell you how much stuff we have left unattended on beaches over the years and no one ever touched a speck of it. My shoes especially. I leave my shoes and don't come back to them for ages! So this just amazes me.

I absolutely love the fact that they got caught, and that this is on the internet going viral. I will never understand why someone who is caught in the wrong doesn't apologize, but instead gets defensive or even aggressive. I agree.

LOL. That is the beach 20 minutes from my house. Doesn't surprise me. We drive an hour to a different beach.

aw, she was indignant for being filmed! Yes!!! We were talking about it just this week. If it's lying there, on a table, in your locked car, sitting on your porch it's seems to be fair game anymore!

Unbelievable. People today just don't get it.
The other day someone turned on our street drove to the end made a u-turn and then grabbed a few lemons from my neighbors tree and then left. Seriously they had to have known the tree was there to pull onto our street past all the other houses and then grab a few and leave. I instantly thought of the peas and the person that posted about a neighbor stealing all the fruit off her tree. I wonder how often they have done this. The tree is in their backyard but a few branches hang over. I know I feel strange taking a lemon or two but have been told to help myself.

It's appalling. Unless it's a rental, how the heck would someone mistake a huge canopy as their own?
It's sad that we have to be on guard every time we go out in public. I heard a news report recently warning people not to leave their cell phones on tables while in restaurants because thieves are stealing them right off the tables when the diners are distracted. Just craziness.

Just craziness. How awful. If they truly thought it was theirs, they would have been apologetic not angry when he confronted them. I know once or twice I have gone to the wrong car in the car park, or taken the wrong trolley in the supermarket (and then wondered why I'm buying a whole load of crap). Some people have no shame, though. I have never stolen anything in my life, and I'd be mortified if I did accidentally. I once had a store not charge me for a sweater and I took it back. Some of the girls at work are quite proud of how they shoplift, though. Just a couple of days ago one of them was telling me that she'd found a dress in TK Maxx that didn't have a tag on, so she'd just taken it. I don't understand how people can do this?!

One time I was checking out at the grocery store with a large order, and bought one of those HUGE containers of Ocean Spray juice, the one that has a carrying handle on top. It was on sale!
This elderly white woman (and she WAS elderly) proceeded to attempt to steal it off of the conveyer belt! And she had a little smile on her face as she did it too. I said, "Excuse me, that is MY juice!" She looked all shocked to be caught and said, "Oh, I thought it was mine!"
She knew damn well she did not buy that, she checked out before me and only had a couple of items. I guess she thought I was not paying attention, but I always pay attention if someone is hovering around the conveyor belt while I am checking out. I pay even closer attention after that happened.
After she left, the cashier said, "She knew she didn't buy that juice!" LOL, you have to watch everyone like a hawk, even little old grannies!

I think they knew exactly what they were doing. I think she looked confused because she was trying to come up with an explanation. You know whether or not you came to the beach with a freaking CANOPY and chair set or not.
I've accidentally gotten into the wrong car before, so I understand an honest mistake. I got into an old Toyota Corolla that looked just like mine, not a new BMW lol.

I read that some think this was fake. Should be interesting to see. If it wasn't these ladies will be outed soon enough or the guy will be on the news being interviewed.

They really are.
It would be interesting to hear follow-up on this story.
See, I didn't. I thought she looked legitimately stunned at being caught, a bit panicked and seemed to be looking to red suit lady to take the lead. And when orange shirt lady says "I'm not trying to (can't remember the rest)" as she's walking away from the canopy, I think it's very telling that she's looking down and won't make eye contact with camera dude.
