It wasn't long ago that someone was talking about how the store hadn't updated it's inventory in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time and there was a lot of speculation that the sale to the Kadoodle(?) owners didn't get either party the revenue they wanted... but I don't know anything for sure.

I have no info to give, apologies. If the owners have started an Etsy site to continue selling flair & other exclusives, it must have been an orderly, non-disputed shut down as opposed to a liquidation, or else creditors would have nipped this in the bud.

I assume they stopped making money and needed to downscale. Sometimes it's nothing more than that. Yes it's bad for us, but the reasons why really aren't our personal business.

On last week's Paperclipping podcast it was discussed briefly that 2Peas was no longer able to get a credit line from vendors which meant they couldn't add new inventory to the store. Also, Nancy Nally said once the White's reacquired 2Peas from Leisure Arts she knew their were financial difficulties.

I wonder what the White's will do for a living now? I remember there was another online store that reviled 2peas's message board that shut down a few years ago. Lifetime moments? Well first the store moved from CA to MI then later shut down very respectfully giving notice.

I don't know...I can't imagine their etsy shop can support them. Does anyone know if they're just selling off remaining inventory or are they producing new inventory for their shop?

I just chalked it up to their bad business practices finally catching up with them.

Most likely $$$ issues, from what I have heard and know from past experience with them.

I had seen that mentioned somewhere before and couldn't figure it out. That just seems like a recipe for disaster!

I think they bought it back thinking they could make it their little company again and rebuild.

I guess they had the opportunity to buy back their company and wanted to give it another go to see if they could make it successful.

Nancy Nally, www.scrapbookupdate.com, wrote an article about 2Peas closing on June 25, 2014, where she stated similar information about their financial difficulties. Here's the link to the story: www.scrapbookupdate.com/2014/06/25/breaking-two-peas-in-a-bucket-closing/#more-35771

Several of the Garden Girls wrote on their blogs that they only found out an hour before the general email came out.
I find that really crappy.
I think the writing was on the wall for a long time. There had been on new inventory added to the store in FOREVER. Customer service had gone to hell in a hand basket. TPTB would not answer any questions abut inventory or the website on the General Scrappin Board.
Personally I think they drove the nails into their own coffin when they redesigned the website. There was a huge blow up on the GS board about that. Jeff came in and basically told everyone to F Off that they didn't care what the customers thought. He started banning people. A LOT of scrapping peas, who had been paying customers of the store, left because of it. Some middle tier scrapper/bloggers left over it as well and I know that hurt the store.

Ah, so it was all public knowledge? That article is quite eye-opening! I think it was public knowledge in that it was obvious the store couldn't get new inventory and there is only one possible explanation for that. At one point they (TPTB at 2Peas) also announced that they were going to focus more on stamping and change their inventory over to stamps, but then it never happened.

One of the Garden Girls said that they were paid with gift cards to the store, and that is why there was never anything in stock, lol.

This was discussed too on the podcast. Panelists agreed there was no way this would ever happen w/ 2Peas. Stamping inventory is too costly and requires a lot of inventory so it didn't make business sense especially since they were experiencing financial difficulties.

One of the Garden Girls said that they were paid with gift cards to the store, and that is why there was never anything in stock, lol. I heard that as well. Along with other things about relationships not going well. I read a few different blogs from designers etc.. I wondered what had happened. I'm not convinced it was a slow closing thing as they were dwindling out their inventory for some time and then the ads to keep it going. I am a little suprised that it wasn't bought by someone else as a few other companies have merged. ETA- it did look like most of the designers were blind sided by the news so i wondered if had to more with the relationship with the owners?

ETA- it did look like most of the designers were blind sided by the news so i wondered if had to more with the relationship with the owners? I had seen a rumor that the owners were getting a divorce. However, it had been at least 3 months, probably more, that there were threads on the GS wondering what was happening because there was simply no product in the store. I can see how you could have been blindsided if you (general you) were only an NSBR pea, but I can't imagine that anyone who visited the store or GS board was surprised. Disappointed and sad, yes. But surprised? No. I think the signs were there for a LONG time - the website redesign, bringing in the ads, decreasing stock in the store, the crazy hike in shipping costs, the discontinuation of the loyalty program, STJ leaving, and the increasing absence of TPTB on the boards.

myshelley - I thought the same thing, but some of the blogs I was reading they were suprised and shocked when they got the actual emails. I'm sure nobody thought it would actually happen but more get bought by someone else or whatever but it was a drastic way to go nonetheless. Sort of crazy after so many years. I do feel bad for the GGs!

It was my understanding that Jeffrey was the tech/programmer/brains of the operation so I'm sure his skills and experience will serve them well.
I bet he's ready to jump to a ship without a million women all feeling ownership in the place.
