Ask your doctor for Lactulose. It's super cheap and will clean out your gut like nothing else in this world. You will swear there is a world war going on in your gut while it works.
Alternatively, eating some candy sweetened w Sorbitol will have a similar effect.

Drink more than a shot of hot water. That's not enough to get things going. Drink a mug of it. I don't think you need the coconut oil, but if you want to keep adding it in to see if it helps you can.
Watermelon is a GREAT food to help you go. The water and fiber together is a good combo. If you can get some, try it. It's not in season, but our grocery has it presliced year-round and I buy it to keep DS regular. Anytime his poop looks a little constipated I give him a few pieces. Works like a charm. You'll need to eat more than a few pieces but it's worth a try.
Also roughage works. So raw lettuce, spinach, kale... eat a big old salad with watermelon for dessert. Bingo!

My surgeon suggested Plum Smart. It's plum juice not prune juice and tastes MUCH better Water, water, water! Also fibers gummies by Vitafusion have xylitol in them too which can make some people need to go I take 3-4+ just depends. I have a medication causing it that I may never get off of. It usually causes loose stool but like everything has the opposite effect on me! LUCKY! And I agree about the magnesium. I'm taking oxide but may look into the other one! That helps usually. Dr also suggested Milk of Magnesia if needed. I stay away from the co lace/miralax type stuff because it can cause more issues long term. I find a warm bath in a hot bathroom helps too. As far as cleaning out occasionally, maybe look into juicing a few days once a month. You can still get other liquids in for protein if needed but it may help with back up. And some people swear by coffee and apple cider (the good kind, not pasteurized). Does nothing for me!

Get rid of diet coke and processed foods. Eat a vegan, whole food diet and watch the regularity begin. I have to say I agree with this. I used to suffer from constipation too. Once I started eating a whole foods, plant based diet rich in whole grains a year ago my constipation was gone. Debbie in MD.
