Even Disney Cruises now have minimum age requirements... 6 months for any cruise or 12 months for cruises with more than 3 days at sea.

We did a lot of traveling from the time our kids were a few weeks old. Some trips required 10 or more hours on a plane, long layovers, scarce amenities, etc. The kids are champion travelers and handle unexpected events well.
I'd take my 10-month-old on a 12-hour flight with a layover in a filthy airport before I'd take him on a cruise. lol I know some people make it work (cruises with a child in this age group), but it's not a trip that would tempt me in the least.

I've done it when my ds was 10 months and my youngest dd when she was 14 months old. I think a lot of it depends on you and on your child's temperment. We had a great time. My husband even carried my daughter up a waterfall in Jamaica (Mayfield, NOT Dunns River). The staff on board are wonderful with little ones. A lot of them are missing their own children.
Mine have traveled basically since birth. With my youngest, we left the hospital, were home for a day and then went to a family reunion at the beach. Then we went to Disney World when she was 9 days old. I'm more of fit the kid into my life kind of person than my life revolves around the kids.

Thanks again for all your advice! I'm pretty sure we're going to pass this time. I'm sure there will be other trips, my family loves to travel together.

I'd say no...but that is probably more because I am not a cruise kind of girl. If I am on a boat, I want to be able to lean over and stick my toes in the water. I have traveled with my kids since they were little bitty, but I am very much a roll with it kind of parent. There really aren't a lot of places that I wouldn't take them.

I have a six month old and the thought of taking her on a cruise any time soon wears me out. I think I'd pass. That doesn't sound like a good time for anyone.

We would have done it. But we are out of town from relatives, and were always expected to travel to visit them, even with an infant and toddlers. Our oldest went on her first trip (6 hrs. away) at 10 days old. That was fun! Just kidding, it wasn't. So we were "pros" at traveling with a baby by the time one was 10 months old. I was going to suggest leaving the baby with grandpa/friend/sibling, but you said that wasn't an option. If this is your first, or you aren't used to traveling with babies, I would wait until child is older. We have gone to the beach with a 4month old, 3 and 5 yr. old, but being "on land" seems easier than on a cruise ship.
Hard decision!

I'll be honest, I was thinking it sounds like the worst type of hell to me too. My brother & sis-in-law offered to help pay for an on-board nanny, but I think we're just going to pass. The last cruise we went on was so much fun, but we were footloose & fancy free, aka no kids. We unfortunately don't have anyone to have the baby stay with, my mom is in Iowa and is 82 and my DH's dad does not have any experience with babies, he never did anything with his own kids. I figure these next 2 years (or more) will be a lot of us staying home from family vacations until the kid is a bit older. Or going to an all-inclusive resort and hanging out on the beach for a week. Thanks for all the information! I'm not a cruise person, so that biases my answer, but I would agree that it doesn't sound like much fun. However, don't rule out taking a vacation with just you, your hubby, and child and choosing something that will fit your family better. We were doing trips from when our daughter was 5 months or so (although we do a lot of outdoors stuff, which is pretty well suited to family vacations). Obviously you have to readjust expectations, but you don't have to be a hermit!
