Any scrapbook stores? Favorite restaurants?
I've got a quick trip next month, looking forward to warmer weather and a relaxed weekend at the end.

Have lunch with your cousin who is a student at A&M. That's what I did, so it's all I've got to offer.

The BlueBell Creamery is in Brenham, which isn't too far. And it is fun and yummy!
Definitely go through the George Bush Sr Presidential Library - backside of the TAMU campus. They usually have really great exhibits.
Check to see if there is a TAMU baseball game while you are there... they are always fun and not as expensive as football games!

The Bush Library is great. DH is an alum, so our trips up there usually involve football games. And you cannot beat Double Dave's Pep'roni Rolls. I crave them like crazy.

take me with you!! I love College Station and like pretzels, a football game would be on my agenda. The city revolves around the school so if you're not into that there is not much else, at least there wasn't before....Anywho - the Bush Library is great, the campus is pretty amazing IMO, and other than that it's a college town with a mall and all the other things you'd expect. When i was there,we used to frequent a mexican restaurant in Bryan called Los Nortenos, i'm not sure if it's still there or not. Double Dave's is amazing

I hadn't thought about baseball, that sounds fun. How long would you allow for Bush Library, as tourists not scholars ? The restaurants are making me hungry! Any cute shops? Scrap or craft? Thanks everyone!

A couple of hours for the library....and yes, Double Daves and their pizza rolls. There is a also a good restaurant called Cotton Patch that we like, as well as FreeBirds which is like a Chipotle/Qdoba burrito place.
It's grown so much since I was there though. And most things are related to TAMU somehow.
There is a good quilt store if you are into quilting LOL! Don't know if the scrapbook store is still there. I think it closed a long time ago.
Half price books is a fun used bookstore to browse in.....I really miss them and wish they were here in NC!

We were there Christmas of 2013---had lunch at a place called "Lupe Tortilla".....it was yummy! The Bush Library is a must- see !!! This pik is from the A & M Campus.....if you have any desire to get your pik taken under a HUGE college ring, there ya go! Also, in the building behind this ring is a very interesting museum (for lack of a better word?) which tells the history of A&M...(Hubby's Alma Mater----very interesting!) .....Gig 'Em!!!

For my AGGIE fans--(if you're interested----hee hee!) -I wanted her to have a cheerleader outfit for our visit, but they do NOT make the doggie ones in bulldog size (trust me, I looked at LOTS of websites!!!).....I ended up ordering her a human girl's dress and wondered why it took me so LONG to figure that out!!! ! And got our guy's jersey in the boy's department

scrappintoee -- Love the bulldogs under the ring! And their outfits are adorable!
Marypea --Yes, I live just outside of Charlotte now. Charlotte actually has a pretty large Former Students group which is nice, but timing always seems to be wrong on the get-togethers. We did go as a group to the Auburn game two years ago and then the USC game last year. There was a huge group of Aggies at the USC game. But it was hot and miserable!

Oh my goodness, it's been YEARS since I had a Pep'roni roll. Although I ate so many during my college years there that I should have gotten to the point of never wanting another. But now I do. Anyone willing to deliver a large order up to Southeast Alaska by chance? LOL

When I was pregnant with my first child, my boss was an Aggie. One day he called in. A good friend from college was about to ship out to somewhere and he was going to be in CS for the day. He asked me to be in charge so he could see his friend. I agreed, but he had to bring me Double Dave's back. He did it! They were sooooo good!

The Cushing Library on campus is a world-class library with many collections, including the Science Fiction and Fantasy Research Collection. George RR Martin donated the 5 millionth (yes, millionth!) book to the library last week. It wasn't one of his, though. It was a first edition signed JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit! George has a special place in the hearts of the Aggies who are members of Cepheid Variable (the campus fantasy/sci-fi group and the group who runs AggieCon every year) because he was part of AggieCon for years before he "got famous". cushing.library.tamu.edu/cushing.library.tamu.edu/collections/collections-pages/the-science-fiction-collection/index.html

One of my profs in undergrad told us about all the stuff he had to go through to see the Ellesmere Chaucer for his dissertation when he was at UT. DH said he thought it wasn't on display for just anyone to see.

I was sad that I never got a chance to go to it. They had a larger exhibit back in 2010 called One Hundred Years Hence: Science Fiction and Fantasy at Texas A&M. They have quite the collection. One of these days I'm going to talk someone into giving me a tour of the collection, given that I'm an old Cepheid.

I am headed that way in May for the CSHS graduation of my niece (the new high school). Unfortunately it is at 4pm and we are driving in from NC then on to Houston. Gonna definitely try to get some DDs pepperoni rolls! Anyone have any really good (relatively nice and inexpensive) hotel recommendations? There will be 3 of us (me and 2 DDs).

yes, i think the dixie chicken would be ok for lunch. it is mostly a place to go drink beer, but their burgers are supposed to be great! thought of another place ... hullabaloo diner. it is a little out of town, but it has been on diners, driive-ins and dives. everything there has been really good. if you go to roadhouse, ask for paisley!
