I've had a smooth top stove for years. Just upgraded to a stainless model last year. It takes a lot to keep it in pristine condition but I wouldn't go back to the coil burners.
I do a a lot of canning and the manufacturer recommends that you use only a stainless steel canning vessel. No problem, I prefer stainless over the enamalware any day.
