I have never used an eyelash curler before and have always had this irrational (I would imagine) concern that if I did I would end up ripping out some of my eyelashes! That as I was closing it up, and they began to curl, I'd blink and....oops...they'd be gone. I have sparse lashes, so I really can't afford to lose any, lol. But I always think that if I could curl them up a bit they might look a bit better. So tell me that you've never accidentally ripped out your eyelashes, or heard of anyone who has, and that eyelash curlers are perfectly safe and a wonderful addition to your make up bag.

I never ripped mine out but I have squeezed my lid into it because I went too fast and got to close to the lid. Take your time and maybe watch a YouTube tutorial..you will do fine

NoWomanNoCry...ouch! I hadn't thought of youtube, thanks. Why, good thing you mentioned that because I would have thought you'd use it 'after' the mascara! Thanks. Littlemama, good to know that I am not alone, lol. Maybe this thread will help both of us.

I have vague recollections of trying one in my younger years, but never thought it yielded enough result for me to make it part of my beauty routine. Haven't used one in many, many years and don't miss it. I got one in last month's Ipsy bag and passed it along to a teen girl that I give all my unwanted beauty box stuff to.
You've always looked lovely in the photos you've posted of yourself here. If you are reluctant to use an eyelash curler, I can't see where you need one.

I am another wary one when it comes to this implement. I remember reading a warning not to be tempted to heat them with a hairdryer prior to use. Good luck.

I use one daily, even if I don't wear makeup. My eyelashes sometimes curl under and lower and upper get caught together. Drives me nuts.

I've used one for as long as I can remember and have never ripped out any eyelashes. It would take a lot more force than a blink to do that, I'm pretty sure. I only know of one person who actually pulled her eyelashes out with one, and that's because she sneezed during the process. So, while I agree with Spongemom that you don't need to curl your lashes (you look amazing in the photos you've posted), if you want to give it a try, watch Youtube to learn how and don't sneeze. L

I have one, a good one, new in package, I just use plenty of mascara and go with that. I have sparse, very, very short lashes and still don't curl my eyelashes. I am ok with it. heartcat you do beautiful makeup on yourself, you are good!

I didn't use one until about 5 years ago, when I was 49.
I had a fear of them that they would hurt and but one day watched my son's girlfriend using one and she showed me how to use it.
I have never had any problems with it and it does make a difference. I can tell the days I do use it and the days I don't, and I think I use less mascara when I do use it.

I don't use one, mainly because I'm too lazy . I do love the look of curled eyelashes.
I could swear that I read on this board about the February Ipsy eyelash curler damaging some of those subscribers eyelashes. I thought I read that it was defective. So I went from being bummed that I did not receive the curler, to be glad that I didn't. I'm not super coordinated, so me using a wonky eyelash curler would not have been a good thing.

I only tried one once when my sister in law had to get in hours for cosmetology school. She did the whole makeup and style my hair. She handed me the eye lash curler and was seemed very surprised I didn't know what to do. I tried and it felt awkward. I guess if I practiced more it might make a difference.

I have never ripped my eyelashes out with an eyelash curler. My mom, on the other hand, has. She was trying to drive and do her makeup at the same time (she's known for always running late for everything). She was using the curler on one eye, and drove over some railroad tracks. Ouch! This was about 30 years ago, and I don't remember her doing her makeup in the car after that, thank goodness. So as long as you're not driving and curling at the same time, you should be fine .

I used one once. I was in high school. I pinched my eye lid and that was the one and only time I ever used a eye lash curler.

I don't understand the need for eyelash curlers? I've been wearing mascara everyday since middle school and have average length lashes.

I know it resembles a torture device, but you'll be fine using an eyelash curler. It's not tricky at all. I've never lost eyelashes using one. You'll like the outcome. Don't recurl once you've applied mascara, you'll lose lashes that way. One of my friends would always curl her eyelashes while a passenger in the car, that is dangerous in case of a car accident, I forbid her from doing it while I'm driving. You'll be fine at home in front of a mirror.

I've tried one once or twice but I didn't see much difference and haven't touched one in years. Mascara does all that for me.

Just as my hair doesn't hold a curl, my eyelashes don't either. I have to use a curler and have to put mascara on first. It just won't curl without it. I recently read about warming an eyelash curler with a hair dryer first, may have to try that.
Even if I curl my eyelashes, they seem to lose the curl quickly.

I have never used one either and am afraid of them - I also got one in my ipsy bag last month and yes some of them were defective they sent out an email showing a defective one and mine looked fine but I have yet to try it. Still chicken here LOL.

I have tried them periodically over the tears but they don't really make a noticeable difference on my lashes. My dd uses one regularly and it really makes a difference for her.

Thank you very much Spongemom Scrappants, Bumpea, and Elannah. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences. I am still undecided. Bumpea, your post about the sneezing and ripping them out has me nervous again though, lol!

I have a Sonia Kashuk travel curler that is plastic. Well, I've had two. If you squeeze too hard, you'll break the curler. I like it, though, because it seems like it fits my lid better, and it's never cold!

I don't curl my lashes often, but when I do, I just heat up the curler with the hair dryer right before using. Works like a charm!

Wow I am so surprised so many people don't use an eyelash curler! Who knew? I grew up seeing my Mom use one so its been a staple in my makeup bag since college (if not earlier). * Like others have said, do NOT use mascara beforehand. * Make sure to always keep it wiped and clean so the next time you use it, your lashes don't stick to anything i.e. eyeliner that may have gotten on it. * If you heat it for 3-5 seconds with a blow dryer first, it does amazing things! I don't wear makeup every day but I will curl my eyelashes nearly every single day. My eyes just feel more awake and bigger with mascara on the curled top lashes and black liner on my lower waterline.
