You know, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I actually DO thank some things and tell them I love them so I can sort of understand where she's coming from! Maybe I'm just old and confused but I tell my bed I love it nearly every night as I'm so grateful to be getting in it. I tell my ipad and computer that I love them because they help me with various things. I know I do it with other things too. When I clean the hob I might say "There, don't you look nice". I DO hang clothes I particularly like with more care than the less liked things. I sound like a prime candidate for her system, don't I? So why am I surrounded by clutter? You gotta read the book to find out! I will admit I have given special though to things like you said above. I just couldn't get past her uppity attitude and "I would never do it that way" snippy voice like she was looking down at me for the entire book. i also don't do well with how bossy she was in telling people what they could keep or not.

I am not attached to clothes at all. If anything, I probably need more. I mostly have basic t-shirts and jeans. Now, if she can lovingly tell me to get my kids artwork/report cards/mementos thrown out or what to do them to store and display them in a loving way, I just might buy the book.

I'm wondering if renting one of those huge industrial garbage bins is feasible The things in my house to bring me joy are my two kids and my iPad.
Do I really get rid of every single other item?

Have you seen this video. Becky Higgins has a really great method for dealing with her kids' artwork. I wish I'd known about it when my kids were wee, although I did take a photo of a brilliant (in my view ) painting my son did that I turned in to note cards and thank you cards - they are still probably one of my mum's most favourite gifts, but the original artwork is long gone to the great wrinkly over-sized sugar paper grave yard.

I read half the book this weekend and had to put it down because I couldn't wait to start cleaning! But you know what's weird for me, knowing she's Japanese and reading a book in perfect American English. lol

I bought the book on Friday and read it this weekend. I actually enjoyed it and enjoyed her positive energy. I tackled my underwear drawer, my tank top drawer and my t-shirt drawer. Did the vertical folding tricks - looks great and I have lots of room. I look forward to doing the rest of my clothes and the rest of the house.

Bumping this to the top for anyone else who's interested. I don't have time to read all five pages now, but I plan to do it later.

I bought this book a while back and read part way through it. While I love the concept, I know I will never get DH on board so it would be futile and frustrating. I think his secret mantra is why buy one when two is better.

Missed this thread the first time around. I just put the book on hold from my library. I'm number 16 out of 8 copies for my Kindle.
