My family will eat leftovers for lunch the next day; occasionally dinner. Only things like chili and soup will we eat for days on end. But if there is that much left, then I'll freeze it up b/c it's probably enough for another meal. Generally, they don't know when it's been in the freezer.

I like leftovers. I don't mind eating the same thing for days when it's something I like. I used to actually cook only once in a while, and would subsist on leftovers, takeout, and very simple meals the rest of the time. But since my son and grandson moved in, I've returned to almost daily cooking. Like many of the others, I often repurpose previous meals into new ones, like leftover roast that is used in a totally different dish. Or I freeze enough for an entire second dinner. Or I eat the leftovers myself for lunch the next day. Or we have a leftovers night (maybe once a week) where we just pick through the fridge for whatever looks good. I can't think of a time, other than maybe with leftover Thanksgiving turkey, that I've ever just slapped the same dinner on the table the next night. But I also can't imagine anyone living in my house complaining about leftovers. They're pretty much grateful just to be fed at all. ETA and freezing your leftovers and bringing them out again a couple of weeks later is a time-honored method for disguising the fact that you're serving leftovers. Carry on. I just got done eating a yummy pork fried rice made from the leftover pork roast I made on Sunday with the leftover veggies from a few days ago. I love leftovers!

I hate meal planning so I often check the daily "what's for dinner" thread for ideas. Many of you mention eating leftovers from the night before. I've gotta say that would never fly in my house. I will occasionally eat leftovers for lunch the next day but I don't think I could bring myself to eat the same meal for dinner two nights in a row or even in the same week. And I know for a fact my husband would have a hissy fit. He hates leftovers so I will freeze them and bring them out a couple of weeks later. So, are we an anomaly? I'm the one that doesn't want to eat a meal for dinner, then lunch the next day and then dinner that night but dh is ok with it After 24 yrs in the Navy I think dh does not have the same tastes many Pea husbands seem to!! We are fine with leftovers and I don't personally know anyone that doesn't eat leftovers at all. I appreciate being able to make a larger meal that I can use the next night if it's a night we have something going on after work.

He hates leftovers so I will freeze them and bring them out a couple of weeks later. So, are we an anomaly? That is still leftovers. I do whatever. I don't know how one makes just enough of certain meals (chili, soup, roast) for one meal or why one would go to the effort of making, say, lasagne just to eat it once and dump the rest. That is weird to me. I get that not everything lends itself to being leftovers, but I don't understand turning up one's nose at perfectly good food just because you ate it for dinner last night. Guess what? You're going to eat the same dish next week too, and the week after, and next month, as many people seem to only have a handful of dinner ideas. LOL As an aside, I will say that if the only problem with leftovers is that a husband refuses to eat them, then he can cook some nights.

What do you mean you don't know how people make just enough for one meal? Is that what you mean? Its not difficult to work out quantities with a few exceptions like a roast. I didn't see anyone saying they threw away leftovers either. I don't particularly like eating the sane meal 2 days in a row - I'm not turning up my nose at good food....I have prefer variety and will eat that good food another day. As for partners cooking - that wouldn't work for me. Not that he would complain but it'd mean me waiting til he got home at 8.30 and waiting further while he prepared and cooked a meal even though I've been at home. No thanks

There's just the two of us at home now and I cook fresh every day, just the amount for us both unless I decide I need to have something available in the freezer for the following week because I'm working. Dh would not eat the same thing two days running or even twice in a week although he eats bacon, eggs and toast every lunchtime!! As for him cooking - that's a big fat no. He hasn't a clue and has no interest which annoys me but that's the way it is.
We'll have takeaway a couple of nights a month. The portions are normally huge and I have 1/2 one day and the rest the next. I am happy to eat anything!
I tend to try new recipes quite often, sometimes once a week for a few weeks so we are not having the same thing every seven days or so.

I freeze single portions of leftover soups, chili and stew and dinner portions of leftover roasts but not chicken. For some reason I do not like the taste of warmed up chicken.
I like leftovers for lunch. Today I had chicken paprikash with dumplings leftover from last night. It was good because the chicken was mixed up with gravy.

I hate to cook, so I'd rather eat the same leftovers 4 days in a row than cook something again. It doesn't taste as good, but I don't care. My husband rarely will eat leftovers. It's a crap shoot if the kids will or will not eat them. I'm usually the one who finishes them off.
