A guy was riding amtrak and picked up the wrong backpack which contained $18K in cash. He turned it into the authorities who were able to determine whose bag it was but the guy claimed he didn't know the money was in there. His mother later pops up and said she put the money in the bag without telling him. His mother has drug record and the money had drug residue on it. Now according to the comments all money has drug residue on it, news to me. Also he left a cell phone in there, but we really don't know if that was his phone. I think even if the bag has different compartments, you would feel a huge weight difference with that much money in it. I think he purposely left the bag somewhere for someone else to come pick up in an arranged location, maybe that person was to call the phone to find it. What do the peas think? A little csi mystery for you. link

Well, that is just bizarre, and actually, the part that I find most bizarre is that someone would set their bag down and not keep a hand on it!

If he knew there was 18K in there, I doubt he would have put it down.
Depending on the types of bills, it might not weigh more than a paperback. 180 $100 bills wouldn't be heavy at all.

I think he knew the money was in there, but was wise enough not to claim it. And face it, if a person is drug involved, they probably misplaced a lot of things.
Of course I don't know the young man and he may be a paragon of virtue. This is just my first thought.

There's a movie with Johnny Depp where he gives someone $20,000 and it's like two banded stacks of bills in a lunchbox and he makes a joke about were you expecting a suitcase or something? Once upon a time in Mexico? I forget if that's it but it's a funny scene. Anyways I think someone could stuff two stacks of banded bills in a backpack and you'd never notice if you had other stuff in there.
