I received a check for $33.34 from the SC Dept. of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services. My home was broken into 3 1/2 years ago. Just curious- do you think this is a one-time thing? I haven't received any other letters or info concerning this.

Was there a phone number either on the check or in paperwork that came with it? If so, I'd just call them...

You never know. I had a judgement in my favor after someone damaged my car, but since the person was a gang member with no job it wasn't likely I'd ever see the $1000 I was awarded by the court. I think I got one check from the county for about $24 maybe 15 years ago that they collected from him and not a dime since.

It is probably not a one time thing. Chances are that he is employed and the courts have garnished his paycheck. At sentencing, there would have been an amount of restitution given.

When I worked payroll at a tire place there was one guy who had at least 4 judgements against him. There was only so much we could take out of his paycheck by law. First to always come out was back child support. So you may get more, but it might not be consistent. Also, once a lot of these people get money taken out of their paychecks, they quit their jobs.

She is not one of the parties who would receive a garnishee disclosure- the state would have initiated it, the defendant, his attorney and the court would receive the others. At the Time of sentencing, I am surprised she didn't receive something, but it could have been buried in other paperwork

We could have done this when our car was stolen. He didn't hurt it except to smoke in it.
Instead we requested that he was sentenced to volunteer work doing whatever the local police wanted done.

We have an employee who has 10 garnishments. Most of his are unpaid bills like those credit places. They come out every paycheck, little amounts to each. He hasn't quit yet but we do have employees quit once the deduction comes out of their check. So I would suspect that you would get little amounts until the person quits their job.

We were awarded $500 when someone broke into our car. We received one $25 check. Months later another $25 check. That's all we've seen and it's been 4 years.
They broke into 22 cars that night so I imagine that there wasn't much money to go around.

I'm waiting on restitution from the travel agent who stole $1,700 from me in 2013. The problem is, there were 10 parties that pressed charges against her. My $1,700 is just a drop in the $30,000 restitution she was ordered to pay. The part that really irks me is that she stole all of that money, and got off with probation. She's made two payments, according to her parole officer, none of which came to me.
