Is it possible to make it without the pecans? I would love to make this to donate for our school's garden bake sale fundraiser. But it has to be nut free. I think I'm also going to try making a batch with gluten-free cup-4-cup flour and see how it goes (they have requested gluten free items too).

So I finally tried this! Delicious! I always had it in the back of my mind but wasn't forced to do anything until this week when my son began asking me to make apple bread (no idea why) and my husband declared that all of the apples we got were starting to get dehydrated. I set to work last night and it took until after 10PM but then I ate about 1/3 of the first bread before bedtime, and the kids love it!! So glad that I was able to find the original recipe! by @oh Yvonne!

I just made the bread and my toothpick comes out cleanly…but the tops look so BLONDE. Is that normal?
The sugar on the top isn’t even melted in the least.
