I absolutely fell in love with Smash books. I had been doing something similar for a while, I considered it kind of a cross between scrapbooking without many photos (or none), and art journaling.
I love the K & Co.smash stuff. I have quite a bit of it. But, I use lots of different things in my books. I have always liked keeping a journal, and this is just a more creative way to do that.
Anyone else still doing smash books? Or art journals/junk journals?

Sometimes I think that maybe Project Life has taken the place of smash books since you hear so much about it anymore.
But for me, I still have my smash books and will continue to use them to journal about my crafts, interests and other things. I have 3 of the K&CO smash books but even when they're full, I'll still be "smashing" in something. I think the main idea will continue to be popular although "smash books" may eventually lose popularity.

I've been collecting Smash stuff for years but have yet to start an album. Probably because I've been doing project life/everyday stuff in pocket pages. (I'm not an art journaler).
I'm thinking of using a Smash book for an upcoming trip - to journal, keep ticket stubs, receipts, etc. Then I'll pocket page scrap the photos when we get home and not have to worry about including all that stuff.
I'll confess, the other problem I have with Smash books is I'm very linear and chronological. I can't decide whether to jump around and add things to pages that they fit best on but be out of order chronologically, or just go page 1 forward even if the theme of the page doesn't 'match' what I'm Smashing. How does everyone else handle this?

They do wind up somewhat chronological, by accident, though. My local Walmart clearance out all their K & Co. Smash stuff a few months ago. I totally scored! But, makes me think they may be at the end of production, too. |

A scrappy friend bought me a Smashbook and a some embelishments for my birthday a few years ago. I'm not a journaler, and definitely not arsty or creative plus I've switched to digi. I'm not exactly sure what to do with it.

I was never certain how to smash......I am a thinker and not really impulsive so the idea of smash as you go just didn't grab me.. I wish it did though especially for vacations as that sounds like a great way to track the memories....

I love my smash books. Its a different type of creative outlet.
I have many books, and random stuff for it. some smash brand some just collected odds and ends.
Put together a little kit and work from that. I don't normally start at the beginning of the book just at a page I think will work.
There is a great facebook group called Smash*aholics www.facebook.com/groups/smashaholics/ Some great video links on there for Corina's Creations I wanna say, I'm not 100% on the name of the lady that posts them, but there is constant reference to her on there. She has a youtube channel.

I still smash! I don't mind the jumbled look, that's what makes it different than my layouts. I like to put everyday life tidbits in mine, just junk, receipts, snippets, little pretties that I don't want to do a whole layout on. Doesn't bother me that I just squeeze in what I can fit, which sometimes means it's not perfectly chronological. That's what makes it a smash book, not a scrapbook for me. |

Yes! I use them for travel journals, they are great to take on trips to scrap a bit on the road if you have time. I made a great Smashbook with my dd of a family trip to Paris, and even took along a small printer because we stayed in an apt for ten days, and had time to document our trip in the evenings. Love Smashbooks to keep all of the memorabilia that we collect on vacation.

I have three of them.. I love them.. I am doing one for weight loss (yeah, that is on a standstill..lol).. another I am doing for a bunch of old vintage pictures that my grandma had (I didn't know her).. but she has TONS of pictures of friends. So I am just putting all those in a Smashbook so they are all in one place and just fun to look at.

I LOVE them. For me, they have pretty much replaced scrapbooking. I never scrapped chronologically anyway and love the smaller sizes.

I just found a monthly thread on scrapbook.com for smash/art/junk journals. It's was pretty nice with prompts, image sharing, etc.
Would you guys be interested in doing one like that here?

I would definitely be interested. I love things like that. Plus, I am at a point right now that I am just kind of in a limbo with Smashing, art journaling and even scrapbooking.

there are a lot of lists out there for smash book prompts. I have some on my pinterest board. I can post them later if anyone is interested.
My favourite one was 100 things about me. There were some great examples of people who did those pages.

I use a Smash book for my letterboxing journal. I include pictures, stamped images, and memorabilia from when we go out letterboxing. I am going to be needing a second one soon.
We just got back from vacation and my daughters (age 9 and 11) took along Smash books to use as their vacation journal. I took along scissors, adhesive, and a pen for each of them. Then each night in the hotel, they would document their day and put any post cards or memorabilia they had gathered. They really enjoyed doing it so I think we are going to do that for all future trips.

I still love my Smashbook. I put pictures of stuff I like, receipts, and other assorted junk that I don't want to throw away. Sometimes I just doodle in it.

I still love my Smash book. Come to think of it: I have actually been doing it since I was 15, in some form or another. I'm travelling to London next week, and my Smash Book comes with me.

I love my SMASH books! I have several going - many different themes. I treat them all differently. For my General/Everyday one I stick stuff in randomly on whatever page I feel suits what I am smashing. This has all the "stuff" such as ticket stubs, various photos, some journaling, programs from my granddaughters' performances, etc. This isn't necessarily in chronological order. For my "camping" and "travel" books, I do try to stick to chronological order but it is not a hard & fast rule.
Two years ago we went on a family trip & I gave my granddaughters SMASH books to use as travel journals. They immediately fell in love! I had taken along pens, adhesive runners, a few stickers, etc. for them to smash the tidbits they gathered along the way & then we printed photos when we got home to record their trip. They loved it so much they asked for SMASH books for Christmas that year. These they use for General/Everyday and travel journals... whatever suits them! It has now become a family tradition for Christmas & birthday presents... they get a new one along with whatever other presents we give them. I really hope K & Company doesn't discontinue them for that reason. But if they do, then we'll continue making homemade ones using my Cinch!

I have a whole collection of them I intend to fill! I am still working on my first one (I'm terribly inconsistent with it) and I have one about my dog (which has just sort of been started). The one I work on the most is my "collection" one, which lets me hoard things without a lot of room--I am filling a page with postage stamps and another one with stickers from fruit. Silly things like that so even when I'm not feeling creative, I still feel like I'm doing something. I haven't decided what I'll do when it's full--maybe put a photo in the center of each that has to do with what I've smashed?

i've been journaling random thoughts for years in blank books, but I've never embellished my books. I think it would really be fun to do some more creative pages.

I remember when Smashbooks first came out I fell in love, or should I say my inner 16yr old fell in love because as a teen I would have gone NUTS for this... but right now, I just can't find a place for it in my creative life. I use Project Life for documenting day to day things and trips are usually full layouts and the ephemera goes in Project Life. It's a bummer because I love the idea, but I don't want to buy it and never use it.
