Full disclosure, I saw this on Salon, not on her site, which I won't grace with a page view. But, really?!?!
“Any growing interest in soccer can only be a sign of the nation’s moral decay,” Coulter writes before listing all of the reasons why she thinks soccer sucks.
Among these reasons are:
“Individual achievement is not a big factor in soccer … There are no heroes, no losers, no accountability, and no child’s fragile self-esteem is bruised.”
“Liberal moms like soccer because it’s a sport in which athletic talent finds so little expression that girls can play with boys.”
“No other ‘sport’ ends in as many scoreless ties as soccer.”
“The prospect of either personal humiliation or major injury is required to count as a sport” and soccer doesn’t have it.
“You can’t use your hands in soccer,” a fact that, Coulter believes, goes against “[w]hat sets man apart from the lesser beasts,” i.e., “we have opposable thumbs.”
“The same people trying to push soccer on Americans are the ones demanding that we love HBO’s ‘Girls,’ light-rail, Beyonce and Hillary Clinton.”
”It’s foreign.”
After this comprehensive list (and, believe it or not, there’s more than what we excerpted above), Coulter finally gets to the heart of the matter, which is that soccer is bad because it reminds her of non-white, non-native and non-conservative human beings, who are just the worst.
“If more ‘Americans’ are watching soccer today, it’s only because of the demographic switch effected by Teddy Kennedy’s 1965 immigration law,” Coulter writes. “I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer,” she continues. “One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time.”

Well, soccer is the most popular sport in the world, so that's saying something. And my kids great-great-great etc. grandparents were all born in the US and all three of my kids play soccer 10 months a year.

There are no ribbons in footy. Ribbons are for sissies. There are no sissies in footy.

She's never watched a penalty shoot out then.

I've watched my fair share of soccer this year from 5 year old (which is entertaining to say the least) to 14 year old and I like that the girls and boys play on the same teams. Some of those preteen and teen girls are much better players than some of the boys, they have earned their spot on the team by playing well.
Annie is full of something alright, not sure what!

It seems to me that it's supposed to be tongue in cheek, which you may or may not find funny. I've never been a soccer person so I'm pretty "meh" on the whole thing.

So here are my thoughts:
1-she clearly has not watched a coach yell at a player for some kind of bonehead move or if that bonehead move allowed a goal. Fragile egos need not participate.
2-She clearly has not watched these kids play. Major injury DO happen. I have the orthopedist and PT bills from a completely torn MCL to prove it (one of my kids.)
3-She clearly has never watched a goalie play. Their hands are their greatest tools. Not to mention the slight of hand that blocks, grabs at shirts and yes, pulls hair (boys AND girls.) Those hands are flying.
I could go on, but really? Bless her heart. (And I mean that in the most southernest of ways.)

She's a worthless, angry, racist twat who doesn't deserve the 'fame' and 'fans' she has. My parents watched soccer, I grew up watching soccer, and my kids play soccer. Give me a break...

Interestingly enough I was the only mom on DD's 5&6 year old first time player league team that didn't care that our cute little girls had to play boys. Most griped all game of all 6 games about how unfair it was. It really was all I could do to bite my tongue when the one woman would repeatedly bemoan 'it's not like the boys get any satisfaction in beating girls". Grrr.

The problem is her "humorous" writing is not that dissimilar from her regular writing. Her style is clumsy and ham-handed - with a decided mean streak.
I don't think it's ever amusing to intimate that the litmus test for being a Real American is how many generations one's family has lived here.

I should have added to my previous comments that she clearly has never watched a scrimmage between a boy's team and a girl's team. Holy cow, those girls play hard core. More often than not they play harder than the boys. I can't tell you how many times my boys groan when their practices ended with a quick game against the girls.
