The post about growing almonds is correct. One gallon per almond. Agriculture uses about 80% of water in CA. Agri-business is big business with powerful lobbyists that CA officials don't particularly want to piss off. People peeing in showers and not watering lawns is great and make us feel like we are DOING something but in the grand scheme of things will do very very little to solve the problem.

It is about 7 years old. A regular wash is 90 minutes. The *economy* wash is about 35. Wait. It takes 90 minutes to wash a load of laundry? My washer takes 23 minutes. Yeah, my old washer used to wash clothes that fast, but then I paid the bigger bucks for a fancy front-loader and now a load of laundry takes half a day.  But it supposedly does use less water, so I guess there's still something good about it.
