I haven't heard of a single democrat who's mentioned possibly running for president. I do hope she has someone to run against (even though I'm pretty sure she'll win the nomination) because it just doesn't seem right for her to be the heir(ess) apparent.
Thoughts?

No, she won't run unopposed. I'm sure Biden will throw his hat in the ring (unless the Democrats can pull him back from that disaster) and there will be others. Not sure who right now.
Hillary should win the nom pretty much hands down though.

Here's a list of possibles: 2016 Democrat possible Candidates It looks like Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee have announced as well. I expect Martin O'Malley will announce soon enough as well.

She isn't running unopposed, which would not be a good thing, but is such a front runner that it is going to be difficult for the other candidates to raise much money. I 'm curious to see how this race for the nomination unfolds.

I hope not because quite honestly, I don't want to vote for her. I can't imagine voting for any of the GOP candidates so that would really put me in a bind. I am just not a Hillary fan.

I am so sick of Clintons and Bushes running for/occupying office. Seriously, if she makes it into office, we will only have had 3 different families running the country in the last 25 years.
IMHO: Elizabeth Warren is a far superior choice as the Democratic nominee, but she isn't running.

Agreed, however, she is doing a far bit of good right where she's at - running for office would effectively hamstring her politically.

He wasn't THAT unknown. He'd given a rousing speak at the DNC during Kerry's run. He was up and coming. Sure, did people think he would take down Hillary? Not necessarily. But to say he came out of no where isn't quite the truth either. It became apparent pretty early on in 2008 that he was going to give her a run for her money. There is no one in todays Democrat landscape that is even remotely close to Obama was at that time in my opinion. She's going to get ALL THE MONEY. You can't run without other peoples money.

While I really like Warren and think she's actually fighting the good fight for people, she's not very electable I don't think (for President). She's too liberal for most and unfortunately (IMO) Clinton is more middle of the road.

Obama was facing his first major race in 2004 when he gave the DNC speech. He was an utter unknown at that point. There's no doubt that speech launched him, but most of the buzz was his potential down the road no one thought he'd be running in 2008 without a serving out his first term as a Senator. I attended a meeting with Hillary's campaign staff in the early spring of 2007. They were already looking at polling for the general race. I think the list of people in April 2007 who thought Hillary would face a serious challenge for the nomination was short (Obama announced in May). ETA I absolutely agree that in early 2008, it was apparent that it was a dog fight - but April 2007.....

Absolutely. The voters Hillary needs to turn out to win are not the kinds of people who wouldn't vote for a woman.

I just, I guess I see the old-money conservative crowd that has large stakes in high-dollar sectors as being old, cronied men who are sexist lol. and I think it could be so polarizing that even people who would've voted democratic who are not so progressive in their thinking might swing the other way just to avoid a woman president. I'd be thrilled to be wrong, I just don't see it happening.

But there are a lot of people who are really disenchanted with the democrat they elected now, and that could influence them to try something new/republican. I know I personally voted Obama and expected things to be much better than where they are now.

I know I personally voted Obama and expected things to be much better than where they are now. I certainly won't disagree that I was hoping for things to be different either. That said, I think maybe everyone was a little naive about how him winning was going to be taken by the far right (I'm not talking moderates, I'm talking Tea Party). For some of them to flat out say that their goal was to make him a one-termer was disappointing. It makes me wish he had done things differently in how he approached them. But, hindsight is 20/20. I'm not sure if things would have been different if Hillary had won in 2008 or not. It's hard to say. Bill Clinton was well known for being able to work with the right when he was office (and I bring that up only because she's a very smart lady and she would have learned some things from him in that regards I believe). But, he wasn't dealing with the Tea Party either, so who knows. I also agree there are a lot of disenchanted people right now - with Obama, but also with EVERYTHING. The GOP have a golden opportunity right now to PROVE they can do what they promised they could do when they ran in 2014 - work with Obama. And right now they aren't doing that. They aren't proving anything in fact, and Congress approval continues to fall. I personally thought the GOPs best bet was good old Jeb Bush. But after seeing some of his numbers lately - I'm not so sure. So that said, I'm not sure who the GOP thinks can beat Hillary if another Bush can't. Certainly not Cruz or Paul. The joke this weekend on SNL was her closest competitor was the margin of error - and that's certainly looking to be the case. At least 19 months out - and that's a lot of time for things to change of course.

An atheist or an openly gay person? Not there yet. I wonder if the Republicans will bring up Hilary's age? She'll only be 3 years younger than McCain was in 2008. I wouldn't be surprised if her health issues are brought up as well. I'm not happy with any of the prospects so far. I'll vote for Hilary over a Tea Party candidate or throw my vote away like last election and vote third party.

Men and women are tired of the bullshit in Washington. If there is a strong woman candidate, men and women will vote for her. ETA, I'm not sure Hillary is that woman. We'll see. People led said the same thing about a black man running for president. And look what happened!

An atheist or an openly gay person? Not there yet. We had a female atheist childless unmarried living-in-sin Prime Minister a few years ago. No gays yet though. Unfortunately I don't think that one will happen in my lifetime.
And you're right, I can see a woman becoming President in the US centuries before y'all would vote in an atheist.

I'm a registered democrat who absolutely would not vote for Hilary and I know many who agree. So I hope she is not our only choice.
