Looks like some trouble in the streets...crowds have grown. Police there in riot gear.
It'll be dark in a few hours.

I'm watching on the news now. Frightening! They crowds are throwing huge boulders at the police. The police are getting hit on their legs despite wearing full riot gear.

Many places downtown have closed early including the district court. I wonder if the O's game will be cancelled. They should make the announcement soon. People head to the games really early.

The BBC over here are reporting that gangs are working together to target police "Baltimore police say they have received "credible information" that members of various - sometimes rival - gangs are partnering to "take-out" officers.......A statement released by police said that its Criminal Intelligence Unit learned "that members of various gangs including the Black Guerrilla Family (BGF), Bloods, and Crips have entered into a partnership" to target officers." I hope this isn't the case.

I'm so disgusted right now with what is happening in Baltimore and Ferguson before that. I'm watching it right now and can't believe the violence that is going happening on the streets right now. These people aren't protesting; they are breaking the law and threatening the peace of the city. They are scary and dangerous. The reports are that there are many roving gangs that are just moving from block to block causing complete mayhem.

In one of my police wife groups a lot of the ladies are down that way and their DHs work there. They are all reporting theirs DHs have been hit with bricks, bottles with fire among other stuff. One woman said her DH dept can't afford the proper gear for something like this so he is out there in regular uniform.
Talk is going around where my DH works about asking them to volunteer to go down there since we're a little less than 2hrs away. I really am nervous for him to go if that happens. His Kevlar vest is outdated by many years and we can't afford a new one.

I hope this isn't the case. I don't know how true that report is. I heard it on CNN too but I don't trust the police to report the truth. Bash me if you'd (general you)like but it seems like a good way to rationalize police violence against the protestors.

I honestly would not call those people "protesters". Rioters, looters, sure. But not protestors.

That stinks. These "kids" are destroying cars and seriously injuring innocent police officers. Arrest all the lawbreakers. I agree; please arrest the officers who broke Mr. Gray's spine as well.

Sorry, all the "protestors" that are on TV right now are rioting and looting and destroying property. And yes, they look positively gleeful. There are reports that here are 7 police officers that have been injured so far.

I am all for peaceful protests and hate that fringe elements (rioters, looters) are taking over and ruining the message. I am also terribly sad to hear that police officers are being targeted and outraged that they don't have protective gear.
LEO spouses what can we do to make sure our police are properly protected? I am just outraged that LEO's are having to buy their own Kevlar!

The people who protested peacefully Saturday day were indeed protesters. Once it turns into thunder dome, it is no longer a protesters but just people being animals. We live in a nearby area and our school system cancelled all Baltimore field trips until the 3rd of May. Awful!

I've been gone all day, and this is the first time I have been able to see what is going on. Last I heard was the family begging for people to stay home to day so they could mourn in peace.
This is not peace. These are hooligans who are spinning out of control. I am, right this minute, watching a CVS pharmacy being looted to the ground, police cars on fire, and people throwing things at other people. This is not a protest, this is criminal activity.
I am all about protest, I am all about free speech, I am all about making a point. But when you are breaking windows of a check cashing store and looting, you have lost the support of people like me.
Criminals. Just out and out criminals. You aren't making a point, you are breaking the law.

Our police in the UK are provided with everything as part of uniform, including Kevlar vests - and full riot gear, shields and vehicles if the situation warrants it.....and their families worry. I cannot imagine how stressed and worried the families of police personnel out there tonight must be.......especially if they are just in regular uniform! My thoughts are with all police personnel out there tonight in the present circumstances, it sounds like a scary place to be.

its typical thug mentality. its disgusting. this is just an opportunity for looting under the guise of "protesting". protesters don't loot businesses and destroy property. they don't carry baseball bats and other weapons. this is nothing put a free for all for these thugs to fill their pockets with looted merchandise.
sickening!!!!!

These "protesters" are destroying their city-I've been watching coverage for about 1.5 hours and it's disgraceful. My prayers are going out to all the police officers and all the local businesses being destroyed.
I can't believe the Orioles baseball game is still scheduled-there's no way I'd go to the game tonight.
