I love that we can have a whole discussion about the Magic Eraser. I just stumbled across where all you refugees were yesterday and I almost cried to find you all. I didn't post a lot, but read almost every day. I'm going to do better so I don't get left behind again. Good luck with your floor.

I would just live with the tiles extra clean until I had a child that needed a good punishment and then put them to work on the rest of the tiles...lol

On the Young House Love blog there is a whole thing they did on grout.. and did a six month update on how well it worked. They basically found some kind of product and they 'painted' the grout (after trying different methods of cleaning it with not much success).. after they were done it looks brand new.
I do love me some Magic Eraser though!! (I did the same thing when I had laminate floors.. tried it in one spot and just kept going...it was amazing!)

If you clean your grout, you might want to put some grout sealer on it to help protect it and keep it clean. I made sure to read through first... Yes, put some sealer on as soon as the grout is dry!!!

The Magic Eraser mop works wonderfully. Be warned though, it crumbles and breaks down like the other erasers and leaves little pieces on the floor. We only got a few uses out of ours before getting frustrated and throwing it away.

how funny-just last night I was wondering if there was a magic eraser mop. When they installed the tile in my craft room they apparently got adhesive all over the place and it's just now showing up in the form of dirt sticking to it. I steam mopped it right after it was installed but apparently that didn't get all of it.

Can you make a checker board pattern between clean and dirty? Might take some of the tedium out of cleaning.

For me, I'd spend 2-3 hours sitting on the floor scrubbing with a Magic Eraser - but I'm weird like that ;-)

They make a Magic Eraser mop. You can also get a Magic Eraser pad set if you have a swifter. I don't use their spray. I spray warm vinegar on my floor and then mop.

I did something similar to my floors months ago. Once you start, you get carried away. I did all of my molding on the bottom of the floors. I never noticed how icky it was until I began cleaning it with the Magic Eraser. The only downside is that the Magic Eraser doesn't last like it did a few years ago. They fall apart so quickly now.

The magic erasers also did an amazing job on the grout. But I feel like it took a little bit of the grout off... It feels different, like it has more tiny holes now. Magic Erasers are abrasive. I bet you did take off some of the grout. If you're going to go through the trouble of cleaning all the grout, I'd probably go the extra step and reseal it now. It might look odd if you only resealed around those few clean tiles, but that's an option too.

I would just live with the tiles extra clean until I had a child that needed a good punishment and then put them to work on the rest of the tiles...lol When my first nephew was born, BIL said that every time his kid was bad, he was going to send him outside to add stones to the wall in the yard. "By the time he grows up, I'll either have a good kid or a good wall, and I'll be satisfied either way." His three fine boys are grown now, and BIL's wall is nowhere near finished. If OP keeps waiting for her kids to be rotten, she could be waiting a long time!

We only got a few uses out of ours before getting frustrated and throwing it away. I, too, had bad luck with the mop. It ripped when I tried to use it. And the customer service was like, "oh, well, so sad". This was a few years ago so maybe they have fixed it by now.

There is a product called "Krud Kutter." It is a spray, or you can buy it in a larger bottle to refill the spray bottle. I used this in our last house. Spray it on all over, let it sit then mop. Wow!
It worked so easily and so well!

We had Stanley Steamer clean our tiles the last time we had our carpets clean. OMG...so much cleaner than I could ever get them. Might be an option if you don't want to scrub all of yours with a Magic Eraser. I heard that Stanley Steemer did grout. We use them once every year or so to clean our carpets (wish we could afford to have them come out twice a year, they do a great job on our carpets). Our carpet cleaner just isn't the same! We got an estimate for our kitchen grout and it was really expensive, so we haven't tried it yet. But if could be noticeably cleaner, that is definitely something to save up for! When we lived in Cayman we had all tile floors in the down stair of the house. Impossible to keep really clean with sand being drug in the house constantly.. and pool water etc. SO we had our floor steam cleaned quarterly. OMG. I was shocked the first time we had it done! my kitchen is too tiny now to justify the cost. But I can only imagine how great they would look if I had them done!

Yeah, I might just carve out the time and tackle it just for the satisfaction of it. But then I'd probably get over myself and figure out some other way to get it that clean in the future without being so obsessive about it. Yeah, I'd be like: "Wow, those 3 tiles are so clean! Let me see if I can get the other 200 like that!" An hour later: "Hmmm...I think I like the ombre effect I'm getting here from clean to dirty. Let me grab a book..."

How come I feel like our magic eraser takes the shiny finish off of tile and stone. I use it on my counters sometimes when I can't get something out and I feel like you can always see the circle of where I scrubbed with it (like when he sun shines in I'm thinking where that circle on my counter came from).
