Absolutely love the names and she is adorable but did anyone other than me for a second think poor Harry. If he has kids will he even want to use Elizabeth or Diana? Or could he use them? I have no idea how all that works on naming and such in such a setting. I'm sure he'd want to honor his mom too...is that possible now? I don't think that would be a problem. Princess Beatrice and her younger cousin Lady Louise Windsor both have Elizabeth and Mary for middle names.

Not that they care what I think, but I approve! It's pretty, feminine and suitable for a princess!

(Waves hand furiously to attract the attention of the teacher) I have two middle names! Have you? So are you actually royal? Seriously though......do you know others with 2 middle names.....other than in your family maybe? It's extremely common for Americans with Spanish heritage. I have a whole branch of my family tree with a multiple names, and looking at baptism records, they were extremely common in New Mexico. Of course everyone started with Maria for girls and Jose for boys, so they sort of needed two middle names to make up for the generic first name. It's also extremely common to use both multiple last names. I swear some of my ancestors ended up with 6 or 7 names.

I love Charlotte. If we'd had another girl, she would have been Charlotte. Although mine would have been named after a spider. Same here. I adore that name and that book so if we could have had more and had a girl Charlotte was the top contender.

Ok so I do not feel so bad for him now knowing he can also use it if he has children. Thank you for the answer!

So long as they don't call her "Lottie."
(Apologies to any Lotties here. It just seems like an older person's name, not that of a baby. And the only two Lotties I know are not sweet ladies, so there is that.)

I wonder too, if her first name is also honouring Will's Uncle Charles The Earl? (Diana's brother)
I think it's a lovely name. I'm quite surprised they were allowed to include Diana. Doesn't the Queen have some kind of approval over the names since they will be direct in line for the throne? I thought I'd heard that somewhere.
IN any case, William wanted to honour his mother and he did just that!

All 4 of the girls in my family were saddled with 4 names, 2 first names, mom's maiden and then last name. My first name listed on my birth certificate is "Maria Dolores." I went ahead and did the same thing for my 3 boys, all have 2 first names, my maiden name as their middle name and then their surname.

So why is the baby called Princess, but Catherine is called Duchess? I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will weigh in, but my recollection when they wed was that until Prince William ascends to Prince of Wales, Kate will stay a Duchess. Something about being a "generic" Prince or Princess by birth but your spouse doesn't get the title until you're a Prince of Wales.

So why is the baby called Princess, but Catherine is called Duchess? Because her husband is the Duke of Cambridge. He was born a prince (and technically still is) but was given the higher title of Duke of Cambridge. And with royal titles, you always use the higher title. I think people get confused and think Prince/Princess outranks Duke/Duchess. And that's generally true for your ordinary Duke. But a ROYAL dukedom is an honor conferred by the monarch and outranks a regular prince (not the Prince of Wales). So for Catherine, being HRH the Duchess of Cambridge, is better than being HRH, the Princess William (what her title would have been if the Queen hadn't given him a royal dukedom). Also FYI, you can't be Princess First Name (e.g., Princess Charlotte) unless you are a princess of the blood, meaning born into the family. Technically Diana was never ever Princess Diana. She was HRH the Princess of Wales and then after the divorce, Diana, Princess of Wales (no HRH). That was because she married into the family.
