My daughter has now been dating her first boyfriend for 10 months (it is his first romance as well). They are starting college this fall. I was just curious if many people experience long first romances or short ones? I imagine since they are very mature and a really good match that longevity has been helped along. They haven't even had any fights and they just spent 12 days together with his family on vacation.

My cousin just became engaged to her first high school romance. They've been together several years, now, and I wish them luck in maintaining a long-lasting marriage in the future.

My 19 yo son dated his first girlfriend for almost three years. They were pretty serious at one point, but we were a bit relieved when they decided to part company this past spring. Nice girl, good family, but we felt they were WAY too young.

Well, I was with my high school boyfriend for a year and a half ... and then we got back together for about six months about three years later ... in the end we realized we just weren't meant to be together for the long haul ... no hard feelings ... Dd #1, age 15, has already had two boyfriends ... she's now going into high school and I doubt that she'll stay single for long because she's so pretty and has a great personality (yup, proud Mum talking ) ... I really believe that we need to experience life before settling down and that often means having a few different serious relationships ...

My first real HS romance lasted a year and a half. My sister married her HS sweetheart and they are celebrating 18 years together next month.

I'm relieved to hear the responses. They just seem so well matched and it doesn't have any of the silly "teen" drama of hormones going crazy. They interact on a very intellectual level much of the time but also do the typical "couples" thing like watching movies, taking long hikes and picnics, etc. I feel very "pulled" in 2 directions--hoping it works out forever, and feeling they are too young and need to experience things as individuals.
They have so many things in common and are a better match than I ever achieved in any of my romances.

My first real relationship as a Sophomore in HS lasted all 3 years. He graduated 2 years before me. He gave me a promise ring my Jr. year, but I broke it off at the end of my Sr. year.
That was about 22-23 years ago and we still keep in contact on FB.

I dated my boyfriend from the end of 7th grade until I left for college - so 5.5 years.

I dated my first real boyfriend for about a year. For me the big factor was that I was not ready to have that serious of a relationship. I was not ready for any type of a serious relationship until after college, but while I was mature in other aspects the whole dating thing took me a little longer to grasp.

I dated two boys in highschool. One for less than six months. And the second for a year and a half. We couldn't make it work at two different colleges about 3 hours apart.

My DS is 35 and has been married to his high school sweetheart for 12 years. I never thought it would last when they were in high school. Thankfully, neither one of my two DDs high school romances lasted.

My oldest ds first girlfriend lasted almost a year and a half in high school. Both first relationships. She was two years younger than him too. Actually, 1 1/2 years in age, 2 years in school. Didn't end well either.

I have two sets of old school chums that started dating the beginning of high school and then married and are still married 40 years later. And they appear to still be happy with each other.

I met my husband when I was 14, we have been together for almost 26 years. My son dated his first girlfriend all through high school, then they broke up about 2 months into college.

My daughter married her first boyfriend. She met him when she was between her junior and senior year of high school. She is 23 now and they have a little girl.
My youngest son dated his first girlfriend until her first year of college. They started dating when he was a freshman and she was a junior. It was very heartbreaking for him when they broke up but we all breathed a huge sigh of relief. We knew she wasn't the one for him. He is dating a girl now and they have been together for about a year and half now. I don't know if the relationship will make it though once he leaves for the Navy. She still has another year of high school left and I know that can be tough on a young couple. We really love her, very down to earth kinda girl.

My son started 'dating', meaning going fishing with, riding quads with, etc. his first girlfriend at age 14. They lasted until after high school graduation and into that summer.

Met my husband when I was a Junior & he was a Senior in high school. We just celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary in June. He still makes my heart skip a beat whenever he walks into the room!

DS dated his first girlfriend for about 3 months in his freshman year. I think my record in high school was about 6 months, but even when I was dating someone, I had no expectations that it would last past graduation. I knew I was going out of state for college without any boyfriend entanglements!

Most of my boyfriends last about 3 months. It seemed that just before or just after the three month mark, there was something about them that annoyed me or I found someone I wanted to date more. My senior year of high school I dated the same man for right about a year, maybe just over a year.

While I had several boyfriends in high school, I did end up marrying my Senior year boyfriend. We have been together for 23 years. I look back on the "others" and know that I dodged a big bullet!

I dated a few other guys before DH, but I was young--middle school or early high school.
DH and I have been formally dating since 11th grade and hung out a lot with each other before that. We dated all thorough our senior year, during college (although we went to separate colleges in different states), and married a month out of college. We've been married 24 years now. So while he wasn't my first boyfriend, he was my first serious boyfriend.

I was in Grade 8 and Andrew was in Grade 8. He loved me all the way until Grade 11. We dated for a while and he was my prom date in Grade 12 but we were never romantically serious. If we were would could have gotten married at 18.
