Mine start in middle school. That first year I only let them wear tinted lip gloss, clear mascara (makes their lashes a little sparkly and helps them get the hang of using it) and light shadow. Then in 7th grade I let them add eyeliner and regular mascara. In eighth grade, they can wear whatever makeup they want, but they know I have full veto power. If they come down ready for school looking more like they are going to stand on the corner of State and Main, I (nicely) tell them that the makeup is a bit too heavy and they need to go wipe some off.

Make up is not allowed at DD's school, and from about Year 7 to Year 9 (the first 3 years of high school here) the teachers would make the girls wash it off. My DD has the most beautiful long thick eyelashes and one day a teacher insisted she go and wash off her mascara, and would NOT believe DD when she told the teacher that she wasn't wearing mascara!
The teachers don't seem to worry about it in the later years of high school, so DD now wears foundation and mascara.
If it wasn't for the school rules I would have let her wear it from about Year 8 (so 13 - 14yo).
But certainly not as much as I would have worn at that age!

My DD has fair skin, blonde hair and darker lashes. When she went into middle school, I let her have some lip gloss and light brown eye shadow. I wanted to show her the right way and not let her get in the habit of overdoing it.

7th grade. Dd is a natural blonde (see my thread, lol) so she looks silly in a lot of makeup. She is now a freshman and wears a little light blush, mascara, creamy eyeshadow, and Chapstick.

My daughter is going into seventh grade, and I just told her this week that she is at an age where if she ever wants to talk about wearing makeup, she can approach me about it. She said no thank you.

The summer between 7th and 8th grade--mascara, eye shadow and eyeliner. She didn't ask before then, and when she did I said yes.

My DD is 12, and I allowed her start wearing makeup this past year. She tried a couple of days of it and that was that, she felt like makeup was a pain to deal with, and says she has better things to do.

I started in 7th grade. My dd is going in to 8th and she has just now started asking to wear make-up. She will probably start wearing mascara when school starts in the fall. She is a swimmer so I have a feeling she will get tired of it quickly.

My dd started last year in 7th grade wearing foundation and mascara. Now that she is heading into 8th she is also starting to use eye liner and bronzer.
