i have five or six sundresses that are really cute - cept i don't wear them because they are strapless
i have big boobs and strapless just stresses me out and most of the time just looks awful
so today - straps on on these dresses to make them wearable
and some nip tucks to make them more flattering
anyone else alter their clothing to themselves?

I don't, because I am so inept with a sewing machine that it is just sad. Sad, sad, sad. You have a skill I ENVY!
But I have to say THANK YOU for doing so. Yesterday I had to watch a lady in the mall try to keep her dress up over her enormous and very jiggly breasts. I felt bad for her, though. Why did she wear the dress when she knew the girls were trying to escape at every turn?
The next lady was wearing shoes that she clearly could not walk in. I was hoping she wouldn't tumble down the escalator, ass over tea kettle. Luckily she took the elevator.

I used to do a lot of sewing when DD was a baby (before I started scrapbooking) but one thing I HATED doing was alterations! I had so many items of clothing that I ended up getting rid of because I just couldn't be bothered altering them. I have to take up DD's school winter uniform and DS's school pants before school goes back in a week. I have been putting it off for 2 weeks already. And it will take all of 5 minutes.

I haven't altered anything, but I do daydream about recreating older clothing into something new and unique. There's a Somerset magazine for that (I think there's a Somerset magazine for almost anything, much like apps). Some of the ideas they have are great, a few are a little out there.

I love being about to fix something unwearable and make it into something functional. Hope they turn out great!

Well that is a clever idea I never thought of doing! I avoid buying sundresses because of the no strap thing.
Are you adding thick straps so you can wear a bra underneath? I would love to see some pictures when you are done.

I do the same thing Nothing seem to fit me off the rack. I'm short and so everything at least needs to be hemmed. I also am large busted so frequently have to buy dresses and tops in a large for the rest of my body size and have to take in at the waist and hips. I've added straps to sundresses too (and used the fabric from the hem).

Gina, I would love to see some before and after photos. I am just getting back into sewing after not sewing since high school and have been contemplating some alterations but lack the confidence

I used to make about 90% of everything I wore. I am very tall so arms and legs were always to short if I bought. But I hated to alter anything and rarely did. I haven't sewn in years now.
Somewhere along the line they started making things that actually fit me lengthwise. So I am happy.
I do not buy sundresses for the opposite reason of you. No boobs to hold them up.
Hope your dresses work out.
