Clearly my opinion will be in the minority here and that's fine. But I don't like Leonard and I really can't stand the idea of Penny tying herself to that cheating little hormunculous. While I know it's not necessarily true that once a cheater, always a cheater, I don't see that he's changed from the guy who cheated on Pria or sabotaged Sheldon in the North Pole (and only went to retrieve Sheldon from Texas because Penny basically made him). And while I doubt the writers will go this way, it's my hope that Penny would re-evaluate the relationship after his confession. If she still goes into this with eyes wide open that's one thing. But I feel like she's there out of habit, or because he's the best she thinks she can do, or she's afraid of losing her circle of friends, or because she's getting older and it's time to settle done, or because the acting thing didn't work out and she doesn't want to be a failure at this also, or because her Dad liked him. It just doesn't seem like a healthy relationship to me. But then again healthy relationships don't often make for good ratings. As for Sheldon and Amy, I can absolutely see him as having a ring because he is a planner and he's looking ahead to what he sees as the inevitable endgame. Things are progressing at his pace , Amy has played along, most of his social circle is heading that direction or already there and no doubt nudging him along, and his ego makes it difficult for him to allow for the variable of Amy finding someone else or getting tired of waiting. Reasons for Amy having stayed for so long may be similar to the reasons I listed above for Penny. She's nudging/dragging him along in this relationship where, at times, he seems reluctant. Yet she's not moving on as so many others would have. I think it's perfectly realistic that she's reevaluating and taking a break. It's a wonder she didn't do it sooner. But it's a shame it's happening now after so many years of him not being that into her. You do understand that this is fiction ... comedy ... written to fit a 22-minute time slot once a week for half the year and meant to be profitable ... right? These are not real people. And if you think Sheldon hasn't been that "into" Amy until now, you haven't been watching very carefully. He has continually grown in the relationship over the years. He made the jump to boyfriend status when their relationship was threatened by Stuart asking Amy out. He initiated their first kiss. He told her he loved her before she could get the words out. I think it's totally natural for him to start thinking marriage, even before she does. And with that, I guess I'd better remind my own self that it's just fiction. No I totally get that it is fiction. But thanks for the condescension. I've seen enough unhealthy relationships in reality and I watch tv for humor and escapism. I'm afraid these couples are being written into corners that won't allow for believable HEAs, at least to me. And yes, I've seen Sheldon grow as a character. My point was that it's sad, and probably a cheap writers gimmick, for things to finally be moving along at a good clip only for the brakes to be thrown now. I absolutely think that for the first few seasons of Shamy he could have taken it or left it so to speak. Their pace has been glacial and that's generally not a sign that both partners are all in. At least not that I have seen. And I did defend that I thought him thinking ahead to a ring was more likely than some other posters thought.

I thought I softened the condescension by applying it to myself as well.

lucyg I was watching the one last night where Amy gets sick so I kinda see where you're coming from wth that, but I kinda still feel like it's forced so maybe that's why she's taking a break and figuring it out. I haven't decide if they should get married? Maybe just live together a 'test' for a while or experiment? I can see that? I just don't want the Leonard/Penny thing to be like Rachel Ross relationship thing. I hate that and they go back and forth... It would fun to do a Spock tribute and do some fun.tributes to that. Oh wait ETA Dh just reminded me they did that lol! I forgot That Amy moved in for a few days...
