We told our kids we would pay their full undergrad tuition to any school they chose, as long as it was in-state and a public institution. LOL! They all chose Iowa State - Go Cyclones! Haha- how many in-state publics are there? I am just teasing- My husband went to ISU and my niece plays basketball there now. So we are fans!!

I graduated in '96 and I think I deferred it for a year or two. I don't remember the exact amount, but I think I had about $40K in loans. I paid it off in under 10 years, I definitely remember calling to get the payoff amount and sending in the last payment. I think it was close to 9.5 years.

I'm just about halfway through my 30-year repayment plan. I originally owed about $85,000.

Hubby and I have 120K in debt together, but that's for 2 Master's and a PhD for me, and a graduate certificate for him. We will pay the minimum until we are dead. That's my plan and I'm sticking with it. I consider it the cost of a good life

I graduated in 1987 with $10,000 in student loans. I had a 10 year repayment period but paid them off in about 6 years. DS had nothing since his parents paid his off.
Our DS went to a public university in state here and the total cost was still in the high $20K range. He has just over $20K in loans that we are paying back. Our youngest has 1 1/2 years to go and we have paid cash as we go for him. When he finishes, we would like to hammer the other loan hard so we get it paid off in just a few years.

Well let's just say that in my state there is ONE university. Yes, one. There are several jr colleges. Since I chose not to go to the ONE university on the other side of the state, all of my tuitions from undergrad and grad school are out of state. I will be paying for many more years, lol. Oh well. It is what it is, but I will be encouraging my girls to go to that ONE university lol (although if they go to grad school, it will most likely be out of state).

My undergrad loan from the late 70's took me 10 years to pay off. It was around $10,000. Worth every penny. Grad school was free except for books. I went to a state school and was a state employee so tuition was waived.
