We had great weather for a while in April. I'm talking 70s almost 80s. Sunny and beautiful. But our fire danger was going up. Then it was going to snow and we all complained about the cold, but sucked it up and said, "we need the moisture." I put down fertilizer and you snowed. All good.
Last week when you rained a little, we said, good. The farms and the rivers and reservoirs could use it.
You have now rained 5 or 6 days in a row. At times (like now) you have rained hard. Our ground is saturated and isn't able to soak up any more water so instead of being beneficial, the water is becoming destructive. The rivers are flooding, the roads are flooded, the fields are flood and it isn't good for the seeds. We can't plant because it is raining and it is going to snow on Sunday. We are under flood warning until at least tomorrow morning.
So, mother nature, when we say we need the moisture, we do not need it all at once. Please spread it out so it diminishes our need to water, the farms are able to grow nicely, and the fire danger stays low.

We are going through another deluge of rain tonight too. In the scheme of things though, we need this rain. The reservoir south of us in Pueblo is already very high. Our creeks are flooding like crazy, but it isn't like two summers ago where houses were going down the rivers. We've had rain since Monday. My flowers and grass are loving it. Yesterday we got 8 inches of hail on the north side of town and today I drove home from work in a bunch of hail. Ugh. I am ready for summer weather and I would like it to rain for 30 minutes three times a week at about 2 in the morning.
freecharlie, be glad you aren't a worm!

Ih, but wait, now we are supposed to get 5-10 inches of snow tomorrow Arapahoe Basin must be loving this weather since they are the last to be open. I only got up once to ski and am so tempted to blow off Mother's Day and go tomorrow - a gift to myself. I am over the rain and the rain and the rain. All I do is clean muddy dog paws all day long. Those are my whines and I know I shouldn't because at least I am not in danger of losing everything to a flood as others are bracing for.

A few weeks ago we had horrible smelling and tasting water coming out of our faucets. Then it went back to normal. Now we've been notified that the smelly water is coming back on Tuesday and will be with us at least until the end of the year. This water is coming from a warmer reservoir that has a lot of algae. That's what the smell and taste is from But it's totally safe!

Okay, it rained here all night and this afternoon the hail hit. Part of our backyard is now a swimming pool. We are usually experiencing drought conditions so that rarely happens. It is supposed to be freezing tonight so my deck flowers are all inside enjoying the house. My outside flowers are all pretty hearty. I don't plant much before the end of May that can't handle the snow. My pansies are huge.

Here comes the snow.... freecharlie, how much do you think you'll get? I'm so glad I waited to plant my flowers. I've been transporting them back and forth from the garage. I've been abiding by the rule- no planting before Mother's Day.

We have had amazing weather this May! It's supposed to be in the upper 60s/low 70s. But it's not suprising to occasionally get flurries in May. Which makes me mad!
But it has been sunny, in the upper 80s! It was 90 degrees today and sunny. It's my daughters senior prom. Yes, it was hot, but I would take 90 over 40 and snow any day!
I better shut up now, or we will get snow next week!

christine58 She lives in Colorado. We get our biggest snowfalls in April usually. It isn't uncommon to get a snowfall in May, but it only lasts a day and is gone. We have the craziest weather in Colorado. You can get all four seasons in a day. We don't have much for humidity and bugs though. That is the payoff.

It started snowing lightly about an hour ago in my area. The dog decided that going out in the snow was favorable to venturing out in the rain. Now we wait. How much will we get? How heavy is th snow in your area freecharlie?

I am from northeast Louisiana & am here in downtown Denver visiting my son. It is snowing heavily here, too! It's a blizzard to me. DS lives on the third floor of his apartment building & I have been watching the cars go by. Some of them are covered in snow. It is pretty, but not what I really want to see in May!

lindah - this is a repeat of last Mother's Day. No matter how long I live in Colorado I never seem to get used to it. The biggest problem with these spring snows is that they are filled with abundant moisture, great for the grass but are problematic with the weight of it, causing tree branches that have just leafed out to end up with many broken branches and often damaged cars that are parked below them. I hope you are enjoying our little bit of a winter wonderland from the 3rd floor. Downtown in the snow is generally beautiful with al the lights. If you are still here on Monday we are expecting some sun and upper 50's and this will be a distant memory but one that will gee you plenty to talk about back in Loisiana.

I'm considering bumping up the heat to get it warm and toasty in case power goes out... I know. I am totally over reacting. But it's so fun. I love a big snow storm. I want to snow shoe out my front yard.

My son works at the large movie theater on Colo Blvd in Se Denver and I just picked him up. He said the lights were flickering at the theater and they were worried about losing power. Some part of their computer system went down and they were unable to sell concessions or tickets unless patrons had exact change. Not such a good thing to happen on a Saturday night at a theater. The roads are mostly slushy though that didn't seem to stop someone from going through an intersection on my green arrow. It was the closest I have come to getting hit and am still in amazement that we didn't. This woman was coming straight at me and I stopped so I wouldn't be t-boned, blaring on my horn. I really thought she would realize what she was doing and stop. Nope, not at all. As she was still approaching I through my car into reverse just before impact. There are some people who should stay off the roads she it snows. She looked like a deer in the headlights. Shook me up quite a bit but have recovered. I saw many broken trees ( I guess better them than me) and my backyard is going to need some attention soon or I will be experiencing the same. They have upped the forecast to 5-10 in the city, though much of it is melting as it hits the ground. Ahhhh, springtime in the Rockies.
