Funny, I just had my maternity photos done this weekend. You can rest assured that none of those in the OG post resembled mine. Those were extreme examples put together to be made fun of. Mine were done in a field of wild flowers with clothes on. I love being pregnant. I love my pregnant body. I've only seen one sneak peek but that one is gorgeous. I'll post them when I get them.

I think when I was pregnant I probably thought they were a lovely idea, but now looking back I'm glad I don't have any, and they would be the first pics my sons would throw away at their first opportunity. I have pregnancy pics, sure, but nothing artistic or professional.
I guess if you are into it that's all well and good. My sister in law loves to paint on pregnant women's bellies and I think ok, it looks cute for the moment but overall I think it's stupid. I would not want a photo of a pregnant me with a pumpkin or shamrock painted on my belly. But people love that kind of stuff.
Truth be told, I think it can be kind of trashy, but many people think it's beautiful. Even worse for me is the plaster cast of a pregnant tommy. Um, just no.

Had no maternity photos done the first pregnancy and won't this time either. The only pics you will find of me pregnant are fully clothed and probably at a baby shower...lol

That wasn't something that would have appealed to me or my husband. But we don't really do "professional" pictures. I love to take pictures, so for us, no need to go and get them done. And I didn't feel very attractive when pregnant! I gained 30 pds. and it was all in my thighs! Now I am paying for it with saggy skin knees!
Everyone is different, and I think people should do whatever types of pictures that they love! I did a couple pictures sideways when I was 9 months pregnant (my grandmother was visiting, so she took the pictures with my first). I wish I did one each month to show "progress"!

My daughters would have thrown them out too if I had any! I agree with the rest of what you said too!

This is a trend that I'm not a huge fan of. I do like the standing in the same place each month sideways photos while fully clothed to create a month-by-month record, but the naked / nearly naked ones are not up my alley.

I was pregnant in 1990. I didn't do maternity photos and I don't recall it being a thing until Demi Moore did the Vanity Fair cover. I have one picture sometime after 7 months that my husband took. A side photo showing how big my stomach was. I'm clothed, just pulled my shirt above my belly and pushed my sweatpants below the curve. The posed shots look mostly creepy to me. I did like the photo of the woman at the table reading the paper. It looked like a candid shot.
