I am not a SAHM but I have always loved to color. I just color after work or on the weekends - it is relaxing.
You can work AND have hobbies. I also crochet, knit, scrapbook and yes, color, when I am not at my job. I'm sure it is the same for SAHMs - after they do their work, they partake of their hobbies.

It's just another hobby. If anyone tells me they don't have time for ____ (insert hobby I am doing at the moment here), stop watching TV or surfing the internet...
I also ate milk and cookies for lunch so there!

Maybe I was wrong, but I interpreted this post as just being an attempt at humor on Yubon's part. I did not think she was seriously being judgmental. I know while I don't understand the current coloring craze, I really don't care what others do in their free time. Yeah, because Yubon is known for her humorous posts where she laughs at herself along with everyone else... I'm not supposed to post on controversial threads on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but succumbed because it has been bugging me that on the coloring threads, which were set up to share coloring books, resources, and pictures, a number of women feel the need to post disparaging coloring as a hobby/pastime. It is actually rather a bitchy catty thing to do. Their time would be more positively spent coloring or doodling than pissing in peoples' cornflakes, but I guess that is their hobby. Just because people color doesn't mean they don't do other crafts or they aren't creative. I do it to relax and unstress - 13 yo has been having a hour-long meltdown because I won't buy him a $70 goo candy kit he found on the Internet. By the time I get him to bed at 8, I don't want to think, I don't want to concentrate, I want to unwind. Coloring allows me to do just that - I love color, it is pretty, it is rhythmic, and I don't have to think hard about it while I do it.

It appears that the coloring craze appeals to many, not just SAHMs. I meant no offense with my post.

Actually I worked 68 f*cking hours last week and still managed to find time to color. I suppose that this was just an attempt to slam SAHMs though so go ahead with your bad self.

Nope not me, I took a nap No judgment here! Life is way to short to be worried about what people are doing during the day. It is a sacrifice and a blessing all wrapped up in one to be able to be a sahm.

I'm another one who doesn't understand the big coloring craze right now. I have no desire to color. Well I have no desire to paint or sew clothing. But I can see why others might. Everyone likes different things. It's not hard to understand. Some people aren't able to grasp the concept that everyone is different.

I'm not offended at your post - since you don't read them, I'll just share that Yubon tends to spend a sizable portion of her posting energy slamming other Refupeas. I think most here see it as her hobby. As long as you don't make a point of coming over to our coloring threads to knock it/us, I promise not to go on a steroid rage in your direction!

I was a SAHM for many years and am now just a stay at home woman. The way you rant and rave about SAHMs makes it look like you're extremely jealous. Some of us are just lucky enough not to have to work. I'm sorry it's not an option for you. The same here...one of the lucky ones! I haven't colored but I have zentangled...LOL!

I used to do daycare. I colored, built with blocks, played dress up, painted and glued things and played with dolls and toys daily and got paid for it. I still get paid for doing these things 3 mornings a week. I collect and play with American Girl dolls.....your point??

Don't forget to wear your kitten heels! And eat uncrustables Only because you are so busy coloring that you didn't have time to make a proper meal. I haven't gotten in to the coloring craze that is going around but I have thought about it. For one thing..........I can't draw worth a crap. I always said I can't draw stick people. So, if I color a page that is already drawn for me, I can end up with something pretty instead of the crap I would have if I tried to draw my own. Maybe I will buy a coloring book and some pretty colored pencils or markers. Which do the colorers recommend?

I am basically retired with no kids of my own at home and I ordered a coloring book as a destressor.
I am escaping my niece and her daughter and I find my blood pressure must be going down because it is so relaxing. I am also reading true crime books and books about the advances of forensics. Both keep my mind off the turmoil going on in my house right now.
My mom buries herself into reading or playing solitaire on her iPad to tune out the noise.
What do you do to calm down the stress?

Not only that, but I'm teaching children how to color correctly...and to love it... and take the skills into their adulthood for any fine arts/design profession!
