What if certain people evolved so that their palms were naturally oily? Those people would logically be suited for the massage industry.
What do you think about during a massage?

Not that for sure!

I don't get massages so I'd probably be thinking, "Stop touching me!"
How much NOT fun would naturally oily hands be? You'd have to wear absorbent gloves while not at work as a massage therapist so as not to soil all the surfaces in your home.

That would be so messy if their palms were always oily. Maybe they could have some kind of terrible science experiment accident and then they could just should oil out of their wrists

Naturally oily hands plus a cell phone would be a bad combo. I have a hard time using my phone after I've put lotion on my hands.

I really try to think about nothing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I don't think, I experience and breathe into the pain. (I like a deep tissue massage)

Does the idea of oily hands skeeve anyone else out?! After I apply lotion, I can't wait to wash off the lotion on my palms and between my fingers.

What do I think about? Here's my thought process: Shit that hurts. Omg that hurts. ow ow ow. Wait, my ass is exposed. Is it all cheesy? Omg, what does that look like? If I was a guy would I have an erection right now? Thank god I'm not a dude because I'd probably have an erection.
So, there in a nutshell is how my thought process goes.

I really try to focus on the sensation. I feel like I've wasted 100 bucks if I don't really enjoy it. When my mind wanders, I drag it back.

I usually think about how much it is hurting. But it really isn't hurting. It is making the pained areas feel better but it hurts so GOOD!

My gf , a licensed massage therapist, gave me a massage not too long ago. I'm laying on the table, under a sheet with my neck and shoulders exposed. She is standing behind my head, off to the side a little, turning it to stretch my neck muscles or something. And I bust out laughing. Because all I can think is, "it's a good thing she's not a vampire!" It was strange but I felt very exposed or vulnerable but just for that brief few seconds.

The entire concept of having a massage freaks me out. If I ever had one, I'd probably be saying, "Is it over? This is icky. Is it over yet?"

Does the idea of oily hands skeeve anyone else out?! After I apply lotion, I can't wait to wash off the lotion on my palms and between my fingers. I am not a massage person but if I did have one I do not want one done with somebody else's body oil being rubbed into me. So yeah, the idea skeeves me out. BTW sharlag I read the title of this thread several times but read message rather than massage. And couldn't think why I would be thinking anything and not listening during a message.

I have only had one massage in my life (after doing the Komen Three Day for the Cure a number of years ago), and I was mostly thinking stuff like what scorpeao wrote... it felt really good, but I think my being weirded out by the whole thing is why I've never had another one.

"HOLY crap that hurts! How can she always find the spot that didn't hurt before but sure does not. I hope they mop up the drool before the next customer. Good thing having children took away my modesty because if I roll over it won't be pretty!"

I am completely unsurprised that sharlag is thinking something quirky during a massage. That's so "her" -- in a good way! I try to make my massages more meditative. Which usually consists of me thinking, "Stop thinking about that. Make your mind a blank." And then a few minutes later, "Stop thinking about that, too. Be *in* the moment." Repeated ad nauseum until the massage is over and I think, "Darn, I wish I could have gotten to a more peaceful state."

"I'm paying for this freaking pain"? I've never had a massage for fun, only as some sort of mean based therapy.

I think of all kinds of things during a massage. It could be anything from world peace to work to when's the last time I shaved my bikini line and if I can't recall, I spiral into things like "I've let myself go and DH isn't happy". And then I stop myself and say "what's wrong with you...other people don't think like this"...and that opens a whole new thought process.
So yeah, literally everything. So why do I consider these relaxing??

I try really hard to just relax my mind, but usually end up stressing over the fact that I can't shut off my brain.

Unfortunately my mind is never quiet during my massages. Often time I find myself wondering how much time I have left and telling myself I need to relax because I only have "x" amount of time left.
