I found my old sterling silver charm bracelet and charms. They are tarnished. I have tried various sprays, but have seen no improvement.
Can anyone recommend a tarnish remover that works on chains and charms?

Have you tried rubbing them well with a silver cloth? Otherwise, you could take them to a jewelry store to be cleaned. Yes, the cloth really didn't do much because of the twists of the chain and how intricate the charms are. |

I like Weiman's Silver cream. Works wonders. However if you have gone a long time without polishing silver it may be need to be professional cleaned because the tarnish may have gone too deep and that is assuming you truly have silver and not silver plate jewelry.

Thanks! I didn't realize that the tarnish would get in deep. I thought it was just on the surface.
And I do have a lot of charms. There is a jewelry store here in town. I think I'll take a few in and see how they do with them first.

I bought some awesome silver cloths at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They come in a white plastic canister and there is a dispenser like at the top of a Clorox wipes canister. I just cut off as big of a piece as I need for whatever I'm doing, use it a couple of times, and throw it away.

Also, there's a vinegar/water/foil thing that does amazing work too.

Plain white toothpaste and a soft bristle toothbrush will work wonders. Sometimes I just rub it on with my fingers and rinse it off.

If it looks really tarnished the jewelry may not have been able to react properly. You may need to try again with new aluminum foil and boiling water/baking soda solution, if the water cools and the silver isn't touching the aluminum it doesn't work. |

I use this method but I replace the baking soda with salt. It works great on my silver bracelets. Beware, after cleaning the silver the water has an awful rotten egg smell! |

I've been using toothpaste for years with my silver jewelry with no ill effects.I also have a very intricate decorative silver frame and toothpaste is the only thing that will clean out the inside of the decorative roses that's around it. I've never come across toothpaste that has grit in it. Wouldn't that also scratch the enamel on teeth? |

DD tried the foil thing that msladibug linked and it worked great on her necklace and charms. I'd seen it on Pinterest before and wondered if it worked, and it did- nice and shiny very quickly! |

Once you get it clean, store it in a ziploc bag with a piece of jewelry cleaning cloth (the dry kind) and it should keep the tarnish away. I found this out by accident - I left my earrings in the bag w/the cloth and forgot about it for about a month. When I went to use the cloth on another piece of jewelry, the earrings tumbled out - tarnish free.

My mom stores her silver flatware is special bags made of "silvercloth." It is impregnated with a sulphur compound that inhibits tarnishing. You can buy silver cloth at a fabric store. I need to get some for my small pile of silver jewelry.
