It has been a cool spring and there haven't been too many garage sales yet, but between the ones that have been out there, and the thrift store, I have found a few good things. One thing that I had just decided I would like to look for, I happened to find. I wanted a fabric steamer, and at one of the first sales of the day they had a nice Connair dual temperature hand held one, with all attachments and instructions, that I was able to get for $4. Funnily enough, just two days beforehand, I had mentioned to dd that I had seen a Hallowe'en costume idea on pinterest, and would like to put together a 'devilled egg' outfit for our contest at work. Lo and behold, I came across one at a garage sale for $1. A couple of other good deals were a large Kathy Van Zeeland bag for $3, and a bottle of men's Gucci cologne for fifty cents. Out of curiosity I googled the cologne when I got home. It is called Nobile, and it turns out it is discontinued and there is a market for partially used bottled on ebay. I checked 'sold' items and same sized bottles, some with less cologne, have sold for between $100-$200. I think it smells great on dh, but wouldn't pay that much for it! Some other finds: I picked up this 40 year old Konica camera for my collection, for $2. It was the first compact 35mm camera to have a built in flash. Some quick research indicated that it was Andy Warhol's camera of choice at the time it came out. It originally retailed for $150 US. This Scentsy 'Jane' warmer was $1. I am able to get (non-Scentsy) wax melts cheaply through work (72/$1) and have hundreds to use with it. This large, pretty pitcher was $2. I could use it as a vase, but will probably use it as a water pitcher on the dining room table, or for lemonade in the summer. When I saw this bag holder for a quarter at a church sale, I knew that it was a sign that I should buy more purses, lol. It hangs over a hanger and has clips for 7 bags. Great vertical storage idea. We're doing some work in our back garden this summer so I have been watching for garden decor. I bought this cute bird for $2. I will do a separate post for fashion finds, so as not to make this one too pic heavy. Please share your recent thrifted finds (or great retail deals) too!

I bought this pretty almost ankle length dress at the thrift store for $3.50. I love the pink/salmon colour and the asymmetrical hemline. I might wear it to a wedding we will be attending in late June. I really like the plaid cuffs and lining on this Burberry knock off trench coat. It cost me $2 at a yard sale this past weekend. At another yard sale, I bought a large, black, designer knock off bag, five scarves, and three newsboy hats, everything for $5. They just happen to work well with the trench coat. I was standing in line for a change room at thrift store a couple of weeks ago, when I spotted this brown and pink trimmed purse. I liked its boxy, rectangular shape and the button detailing. Since it was so different from anything else I own, I figured for $5 I should get it. I had never heard of Matt & Nat, but apparently they are designers out of Montreal who have a line of vegan products. These green sandals have never been worn. They were $3.50 at the thrift store. I liked the topaz stones, because that is my birthstone. Another pair of never worn shoes from the thrift store. I paid $5 for these high-heeled wedges. I love a heeled wedge for the summer. Thanks for looking. And don't forget to share your own finds. Photos always welcome!

I went to an indoor, fundraising tag sale this morning. I got there early so I waited in my car for it to open. I didn't know there were a ton of people already in there. I missed out on a lot of really great stuff. Some of the stuff I saw people leaving with had me drooling. I saw one couple walking around with some beautiful, mint condition Pyrex in patterns I hadn't seen before and they got it dirt cheap.
I spent $15 on: Pampered Chef crinkle edged chopper; Pampered Chef measuring cup that you use for peanut butter that pushes up; Pampered Chef 3 piece plastic measuring cups that look like they are at an angle; vintage, hand painted metal wastebasket; 3 boxes of Christmas ornaments that remind you of Shiny Brites; hand painted Easter egg; oversized, carved wooden stamp that is used to stamp fabric; a new in the package game; a vintage game; 2 books; a tote bag with the original tag still on it; hand painted, wooden jewelry box; 2 candles; 2 old ceramic figurines; small, mirrored perfume tray; vintage powder compact; a handmade doll; vintage, wooden hair ribbon holder.
At another tag sale, I got 2 rubber stamps for 50 cents each.
At another, a new with tag dish towel from Paris and a lap harp, $1.
At the last one, two empty collectible wine bottles for my brother who collects them $2.
I hope everyone who goes out this weekend finds great treasures for their collection.
Somewhere between all of the tag sale and a trip to the convenience store $10 went MIA so I'll have to add that to what I spent. Bummer. I hope whoever ended up with it has fun spending it.

It was bittersweet. I managed a Gymboree and bought baby clothing long before having babies. Today I sold all of my girl clothing. My Kennedy would have worn it had she lived. It was tough to deal with the negotiations but I worked thru it!!

My dd is goes to college and is moving this spring to another house. Dh went to a garage sale and picked up a table with a leaf, 4 kitchen chairs, and a desk for $50.
He went to our neighboring suburb's city-wide garage sale. We thought it was organized very well, curious if others are set up like this too: There were 130 sales registered through the city. Picked up map at gas stations showing all the garage sales. One map for each side of the highway that runs through pretty much the center of town. There was a list that each participant could put a few things they were selling, like "baby girl clothes" or "kitchen table and chairs". Made it very easy for him to find a table quickly.

Found most of this at a church: the ducks are for a pillow cover for dh. He had a cat one at his office and he brought it home with the fabric worn out from people hugging it. Not sure they are going to want to hug a duck.
The other fabric is for my back porch swing cover. It is ugly, but it is really thick and water proof and will hide dirt.
When I was looking at the photo album, a lady told me "nobody uses those any more". (I used one yesterday). She says she never prints. My nephew told me the same thing when he stayed at my house last week and saw all my photos. She would be surprised to see my scrapbooks.
I've been wanting a pretty china cup and saucer for several months. I think I will drink coffee with it and it will taste better.
The red tablecloth, sweets dish and tiny cross stitch kit are Christmas decorations. Just because I liked them. The cross stitch has a nativity which is my Christmas theme.

I have been gathering multiple vintage industrial components to redo my craft room. I've found some really cool old metal drawer sets, a couple of turning stands. One is all metal on a rotating base and takes metal hooks. Another is wood slats that will probably hold plastic drawer-type containers. Two more are metal baskets from top to bottom and a final one has very small little shelves on the exterior that will hold all the little bottles of things like glitter, ink, and stickles.. I already had some vintage metal grocery store shelf stands and racks. There was just one more thing I wanted, but I have been looking for it for about ten years now and any that I found were way out of my price range or totally rusted and full of holes. I had given up searching for one. Then last week I was checking Craigslist briefly while standing in the bathroom waiting for Mom to finish her shower. The ad listed a vintage Craftsman toolbox, but in the background, I saw the edge of a vintage parts bin like I've been looking for. It wasn't listed for sale. I emailed the seller asking if they planned on listing it anytime soon. The seller got back to me within the hour and said he was planning on cleaning it up, painting it, and then listing it. Thinking it couldn't hurt to ask, I asked him to set a price on it as is. I couldn't believe it when he responded that he would let me have it as it stood for $150 !! ?? These typically sell for around $1,000 to $2,000 in great rustic condition and you don't see many offered for sale. They had a big old one in the hardware store my dad frequented when I was a kid. It held nails and screws and bolts and I loved spinning the round bins around and looking at all the different stuff in them. I still figured something was wrong with it or it was too small or too big. It was perfect! It is just under 6 feet tall and 3 feet across. It has 8 round shelves with all sorts of dividers, plus he gave me a pile of extra ones too. Since these are so heavy duty, I'm going to put all my punches in it to start. I know it sounds like a weird thing to have in a house, but I'm thrilled to hav found it. And it can always go to the garage for tool storage if I get tired of the vintage industrial look. I will post a picture later today.

Was home for s wedding & ran in my favorite thrift store. Found a large milk glass pitcher & some Christmas pillows. My dd is president of her school's St.Vincent DePaul society & they make fabric bags at Christmas that they fill & give to vets. So we will be hunting all summer for Christmas fabrics.Hopefully I'll find my own treasures too.

Good day at yard sales and an estate sale (second day 1/2 price). I found some GAP, Polo, jeans and shirts for my 5 yo grandson 6 pieces for $5, a set of Pottery Barn twin Dr Seuss sheets, I had to buy the pillow to get them for $10, a rectangular std folding table lightweight for $20 for DH, and a CUTCO knife set paring knife, 2 carving knives and a spreader for $3.50 at the Estate Sale.
Of course, picking up - delivering the goodies to my DDs cost me lunch for 5!

That was the same excitement I had when I happened to find my beautiful, blonde wood, 60-drawer card catalog on Craigslist for $150 too. It's my favorite piece in my scrapbook room. Congrats on your great find!

I bought this ice bucket by The Sheffield Silver Co at an auction last weekend (or weekend before? - recently anyway). It was so discolored by tarnish, I wasn't sure it would clean up. But a little old-fashioned silver paste and a lot of elbow grease yielded a gorgeous result! I'm so happy with it. I got it at what the auction company calls a "clean-out" auction. It's all the bits and pieces of estates that didn't sell previously, stuff left behind, storage accumulations, and so forth. Most things that day were starting at just a dollar or two. I got in a bidding war with another lady for this piece and had to pay a whopping $22.50 for it! Lol.

This week was the spring/summer kids consignment sale in our area (the other is in the fall). I got my kids summer clothes to add to this year and almost a full wardrobe for next year. for around $150. That includes shoes.
Some great finds: new toms shoes for my girl for $5 new merrell hiking boots for me for $4 sperry shoes for my boy for $4 jelly the pug and matilda jane clothes for my girl for under $10
I have also been going to thrift stores. i found a gymboree facebook group. so if I see something cheap i resell on there. I got tons of gymboree stuff for my little girl and a bunch to sell all for $1 each.

This is a picture that the seller sent me. The levels look crooked and too close together because they are just stacked on the post and each other, not properly installed with ball bearing dividers. That will add space between the levels. There is also a finial for the top.
I will do a bit of cleanup, but I really love that rustic patina.

I think it was $150 or $125. It was shipped from somewhere and the buyer never came to get it, so the shipper wanted it out and gone. Aren't they wonderful for storing all the bits and pieces ? I can't wait to get my room redone with all my strange pieces. I've been doing a bit of metal work, and I think it has influenced the room do over.

Lexica it is as awesome as I thought it would be. I love it's storage capability for the same reason I love my card catalog. I like having things compartmentalized so things like this appeal a lot to me.

Lexica, that piece is going to be g-g-gorgeous. That's an exceptional find - and a great story; I love hearing stories like that. Makes m'blood race. And to think there's already a section labelled "Punches." Destiny. heartcat, love that green pitcher.

I got a Dooney & Bourke giraffe print purse for $10: I had offered less but was happy to pay the full $10. It's never been used and still has its' tiny serial number sticker intact inside one of the pockets.
The second score was a B. Makowsky purse in metallic copper leather. It goes perfectly well with my coppery red hair. That one was $8. It was pretty good day.
I saw a ton of scrapbook stuff at several different sales: I'm guessing that indicates that the hobby is now just about kaput.
