heartcat, I love that pitcher...such a beautiful color! BUT, before you use it for your table, I would check it for lead. They have little ampules at the hardware store that you crush and wipe on the surface and it will tell you if it contains lead or not. It looks like it could possibly be a piece from a florist and those kinds of pieces notoriously contain lead as the glaze is cheap. It might be worth checking, especially before putting something like lemonade or anything with strong citrus, as that can increase lead leaching.
Also, if it is true vintage piece, it could possibly have contamination, as there were no safeguards for many pieces until the 1970s and early 1980s.

Lol "idealized Chinese peasants" - in conical hats and chartreuse clothing? [snip] Politically incorrect, and tacky, my own mother has been appalled, but I love them! Chartreuse clothing, you say? Politically incorrect? Pfft. Look at this group, living the life of the mind. They read...they ponder. No rickshaw pulling. (Okay, I admit I have a couple of the rickshaw figures tucked away in a cupboard...)

I bought a set of ladies golf clubs for $50.00 I couldn't get DH on the phone to ask him if they were a good deal but I'd been looking for a set for awhile so I can learn to play with him. He got home (ironically from playing golf) and was amazed that I bought a set of $400.00 golf clubs that according to the lady had only been used a few times for $50.00. He just knew when I told him on the phone on the way home that they were going to be a set I could have bought new for $75.00 at Walmart. Lol. Anyway he was happy although he did say don't ever do that again.
I buy him individual clubs at yard sales and thrift stores often but only after sending him a picture and getting approval.
I bought a bag of golf tees for $1 and a bucket (shoe box size) of used golf balls for $2.50.
Some shirts and such for DS for. 25 each. I was quite proud of myself for my golf club find... Now to learn to play...

I picked up this diamond in the rough from a local FB sale site for $80 last night. I've been wanting a china cabinet/hutch and with the new house I have a dining room and space for it. It's all original glass, drawer pulls, and hinges. It needs to be cleaned up but the person that was selling it started on it and you can tell it will shine when it's completely done. It just needs a few screws in one of the hinges. I don't know much about it and haven't had time to Google extensively but I think it is mahogany and I know who made it thanks to the tag on the back! DH and I are guessing it's from the 1940s, possibly earlier. eta: Pictures attached

AmeliaBloomer, thanks. I really love reading these threads and appreciate everyone sharing. I love to talk thrifting and get such a thrill of hearing other people's success stories. Khaleesi, that would be so hard, to drive on past, lol. But once you get moved, you can start buying again. I've done that too, come across things that I had totally forgotten I even had, lol. Liya, I have seen brooch bouquets on pinterest (and pinned one because it was just so pretty) and think they are a wonderful, beautiful idea! Good luck in your search, I hope you find some great pieces. Gramasue, sounds like some neat stuff. I would have snatched up that cookbook, I love vintage cookbooks. Papersilly that sounds like a win-win for everyone. Awww, thanks scrapmaven. Janeinbama, that would be cool to find one of those old wooden tool boxes with old tools in it! I think Lexica needs that table top bin to match her big one. Now, is there a trick to accessing the next page before posting? Every time I try, I lose my post.

Grammanisi, that sounds so pretty! And what an awesome price. Did it come with a shade too? Sandie, thanks for the heads up! I had no idea. It's not worth the risk then, I will just use it for flowers. Smokey2471, what a great buy on the clubs. Have fun learning to play golf! Khaleesi, oh wow that is gorgeous! And such a great price! I am envious. Thanks so much for sharing ladies. Such thrifty refugeepeas!

I don't typically thrift shop. Mostly because thrift clothes were pretty much all my mom bought for us. But there is a really great store not too far from us. Dh and I both shifted weight enough to need new sizes. I'm hoping both are temporary - I gained every pound he lost. So I went to the thrift store. I got him 2 pairs in the right size of the only brand he wears! I got me two pairs jeans, 1 pair white jeans, I pair denim shorts Plus a "looks new" nice Mickey Mouse top that will be for DD or for me when I lose this weight Grand total 30.65! They have a lot of nice things but you have to dig for them. DD and I would like to go back. The only problem is that they don't have changing rooms. so if it doesn't fit, like the shorts, you're out of luck. But I'm hoping they will fit soon.

I was was at an antique mall yesterday (YES, that counts as thrifting if you find stuff cheap enough!). I got this teapot for $16. It's unmarked. I assume it's 1930s colorware, which I collect, but I don't know if it's part of a line or just some errant California-pottery-type piece. Regardless, I love the shape and he fits right in with his new friends. ("He," right? Kind of a portly and droll He.) I got a transparent hat box for $10. I've always wanted one. I have real hat boxes, but those are to stuff unpaid bills in, right? I have a couple small vintage hats I could put in the transparent one, but I'd welcome other ideas. All I can think of is yarn. It's still in the car, but it looks like this (with a quilted 1950s patterned fabric top and bottom):

The only problem is that they don't have changing rooms. so if it doesn't fit, like the shorts, you're out of luck. A hippie skirt can become a dressing room! Wear one to the store, try the store items on underneath it, and then take off the skirt. In a pinch, you can even use a store hippie skirt, take off your pants, and THEN try on the item. For tops, wear a tank top under your own top and then take off the top and try stuff on over the tank. (Learned from years of theatrical costuming.)

anonrefugee Yup; at the very beginning stages of planning my wedding (2nd marriage.) I know I don't want a floral bouquet so I am on the lookout for brooches to make a Brock bouquet. If I can't find enough I might add paper flowers.

Jenjie, sounds like a worthwhile trip. I love white jeans. I hope you have good luck again on your next visit. AmeliaBloomer, antique malls definitely count as thrifting! I even love hearing about great retail deals. Any time someone gets something great for a great savings is being thrifty, I think. What a lovely and unique tea pot. I love the colour and it does go wonderfully with the other pieces. I had to laugh about the 'he' because I tend to give pronouns to inanimate objects as well. That transparent hat box is wonderful! I have never seen one before, didn't even know they existed. Love it. I would probably use it for hats, but I bet someone will have a creative idea if you want something more unusual. And I love the tips regarding what to wear when you can't access a change room. Great idea for garage saling, where you can't return something. It's not such a big deal if something is only a dollar or two, but sometimes I see things that I really like that are priced a bit more, but I don't want to risk it not fitting (since we all know size X often fits like size Y or Z, lol). Liya congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Lexica I am incredibly jealous of your find. I have always wanted one of those full size ones, but gave up looking long ago. I settled for the Harbor Freight one and it is a good quality piece for a mere $20.

And it wasn't even offered for sale, it was in the background of another item. I guess I would advise you to just keep your eyes open and let other people know you would like one. Now that I have mine, I have a feeling I will keep seeing them. That is usually the case with me.

At a barn sale DD got this 1973 thermos and matching one for soup for $1. She plans on using it on a road trip this summer before she heads to college. She loves that it is from 1973 besides it's retro and cool, she loves the #1973 because of the X it makes punching in on number keypad. She also spotted and bought for 50cents a box of big old Christmas lights that work and are beautiful lit. The big old fashion bulbs that each unscrew like regular old light bulbs. She wants to use those in her in her room at school. She also bought for $1 a needlepoint item-framed, about 12x24" of various cacti and succulents. She plans on using it as "backdrop" for all the little live cacti and succulents she collected and planted in little found pottery and enamelware. I spotted a 1960's carom board behind another smaller vintage checkerboard. I barely touched it to check it out, when the guy said "you can take them both for a dollar." Umm , yes! Looks similar to one to left. And a vintage aluminum pie carrier with lock lid, handle on top and crust protector ring still inside. I broke the bank on that and paid $3, I think. Fun day with DD. Also went to local art/craft fair and bought both DD and DS little charms for their key chains. Pinky promises were special thing between us- CAN NOT be broken. It actually stuck with them and has meaning because I think, still to this day, they would have one hell of a time ever lying to me after a pinky promise.

PLurker, your dd has a great eye and got some wonderful finds. I have seen those thermoses before and they are very collectible. Plus, they are just plain cool! Love vintage stuff. And your game board is awesome, what a steal of a deal.
Thanks so much for sharing (and for including photos!).

I found a lovely summer weight sweater at kolhs for $4. And one at Fred Meyer for $7 that is almost dress length.
I never buy anything at kolhs unless the price has a 1/4 inch of markdown tags on it.
I bought a huge heavy hanging basket for $20, then scounged around the yard until I had enought pieces to make a two layer planter with a post in the middle to hold the basket.

Did you get the accompanying game board pieces and sticks? No game pieces with that one. But that's okay as I have some (and a couple older and a mini boards). I think I am going to give this one to my brother for his birthday. He will probably hang it on his wall. We had a very similar one growing up and he was "mad" at his wife when she mentioned she saw one a a garage sale and did not buy. heartcat Yes, my almost 18 DD loves the vintage and has good eye (artist) and l o n g e r legs than me so she was "one step ahead" and got stuff before me. Seriously, I get a get out of her being a mini (but taller) me. She also does most/ alot of her clothes shopping at thrift, and pulls it off very well. @megmc Kohls can be considered thrifting if you do it right! Nice buys. I had a $15 coupon with no minimum purchase required and there was a $10 off a $30 or more purchase in the Sunday paper. Stackable so basically now $25 off $30. Gave them both to DD so she could have some fun. She heads straight to clearance racks so she bought a new purse that is small size but big enough to hold her larger wallet. a shear floral over blouse, one floral tank and one solid and something I am forgetting. She ended up paying $20 out of pocket- and only because she splurged on a "good" purse that was on clearance so it was 20ish on its own. Of course, when she checked out she was told the usual, "today you saved 2 million 300 dollars and 29 cents!" Yeah, right. She did good but not that well!

I found a L.L. Bean bag today at Salvation Army. It's identical to this one, without the monogramming. It was $4.99, but half price colored tag. I paid $2.69, including the tax. It's in great shape, no wear.

Megmc, great prices on brand new items. I haven't bought any annuals or baskets yet, but am itching to! Dh and I are taking a week off for a 'working vacation' in our back yard and I will hit the garden centres then.
LavendarLayoutLady that is a huge savings! It was already a deal, and then you lucked out with it being half off that day.

I hit up 2 Goodwills for hump day, today.
I bought the cutest bamboo table to put in a corner of our living room(once we get it re-done!!) They had the furniture 75% off so it only cost me $2.50!
A really, really nice 16X36" frame from Hobby Lobby for $1.20 Another piece for the living room.
6 tops for me, $3.00 each including a couple that button down the front to wear after my shoulder surgery. And a new knit button down robe for after surgery.
A "manly" apron for my grandson! Whenever he and my granddaughter come over we cook something and he doesn't like wearing the girly aprons!
2 pair of new pj pants. $1.20 each
Large pillow that I am going to use the cover of to cover my husband's foot stool. $1.20
A cute little square tape measure that has a level on it and a tiny little post it note pad and a pen. I love it! It was a whopping 30 cents!
My favorite find for today was a large, heavy, round, clear glass bowl(about the size of a bowling ball) for $1.20 I promptly went to Walmart and bought the prettiest Beta fish they had. My husband called from work and asked what I was doing, told him feeding my new fish! He just started laughing!
Today was a good day!

Awesome, LL bean products wear like iron and if you should wear out a zipper they'll even replace them, my friend has a back pack for over 10 years and the zippers broke and she sent it in and they actually repaired the bag instead of sending a new one which was nice because it was a special bag that had meaning to her.

Not a thrift sale, but a bargain anyway, lol. I scored a couple of two door metal lockers (think school type lockers) for nothing. They were under one of the school buildings where I clean and the principal said I was welcome to them, and to anything else I found hiding under there. So I looked and I found a matching low bench with shelves, which will fit all the boys gaming consoles and stuff. They need a clean and a coat of paint, but the lockers will be perfect in the boys rooms when we finally move, and the bench is a big improvement over the door propped up with bricks arrangement that we're currently using as a gaming shelf. Also scored some plastic pallets for nothing which are currently being bolted together to use as bedframes, and a big squashy red armchair that a neighbour was going to put out on the curb with a 'please take me' sign. I've set myself an absolute maximum of $100 per room including furniture for the boys and so far I'm yet to spend anything, and have beds, storage and one chair sorted. Winning!!
