I recently ditched my acrylic/gel fake nails in the interest of $$$. My nails were shot at first, but now are growing back well. We are going on vacation in June and I typically get a pedicure in advance. I plan to also get a manicure this time around, but I am trying to decide if I should also get something on my nails like a shellac polish. I am worried that halfway through a beach vacation, something will chip (even if I get a super light pink) and my nails will look like crap. Would you get a simple manicure with buffed nails or a shellac?

if its shellac it should look nice for a couple weeks & be less resistant to chipping. I would go that route

If that is your concern (chip) then I would get shellac. They last quite a while longer than a manicure on a natural nail.

Shellac for longevity although they will have a detrimental affect on your nails again.

I got opi gel nails for my last vacation and it was so nice not to have to worry about chips. I went to the beach and they lasted the whole time. My nails were fine but my sisters were messed up. I think it just depends on the persons nails and how they react to the gel.

I wouldn't because even shellac or gel can chip or sometimes if applied incorrectly one or more can just sort of peel off in one big chunk. Then it would be a lot harder to remove the rest. Personally, I get mine painted with a color I bring in. Then i bring a small zip lock Baggie with a tiny bottle of remover, cotton balls my polish and a top coat. I'll do my own touch ups or polish change on vacation.

I always pack those travel-packs of individual nail polish remover wipes. That way I can take all the polish off if needed. That and a small bottle of polish to re-paint them quickly would be perfect.
I will not do the shellacs and acrylics and such. Since your nails are just recovering from having them, I sure wouldn't go back to any of those products.

I usually paint my nails before i go away and take a few prepackaged nail polish remover pads for if they chip. Sometimes i will also take some polish with me to repaint.

I love shellac, but my nails grow so fast that for me, it's only good for about a week. I'd get a manicure prior to the trip and then get one during...but then, I love manicures so having one on vacation is a treat for me.

Does your nail salon carry Vinylux? It lasts about a week without chipping or coming off. I paid $7.00 extra for it, so it's much cheaper tan Gel / Shellac. You can also remove it yourself with regular nail polish remover so you could always take remover with you in case you needed to remove it. I just tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and really liked it.

I've become a big fan of jamberry. If you take the time and apply them correctly they are lasting me 12-14 days. And even then, I change them usually only because I'm tired of the designs I have on. (No, I don't sell for them).

Also to add, I did acrylic (pink/white) for years - and love them, but hate what they've done to my nails. So bad. I had thought about gel/shellac but hear that after time the same issues you have with acrylic start to crop up and I'm just not going through that again.

Vinlylux chips on me. I get longer wear from regular polish.

Lots to think about y'all. Thanks for the input. I am really hard on my nails, and when I am on a beach vacation, I am very active. I think I will probably go with regular polish in a light color that I can touch up during.
