My daughter, aged 10, has been invited to travel to Denver this summer with her friend for a week. They will be staying with her friend's grandmother. They will be flying to get there. I'm trying to think of a nice hostess gift/thank you gift that I can send. It has to fit in my daughter's roll-aboard suitcase. I'd love to hear your ideas! Thank you.

I love new dish towels, personally, so you could fold two up into a square, wrap in tissue, tie with lovely ribbon/twine and have a homemade card attached. Should stash okay in a pocket of the bag and not give security any fits (go easy on the embellishments on the card, though).
Or maybe if you are comfortable doing so, you could call friend's mother and ask if she has any ideas of what grandmother might like.

I second the Stationary. A Starbucks gift card. Even if she doesn't drink Starbucks coffee they have teas, smoothies, sweets and cute cups, mugs etc.

I ordered a box from steak-place, that comes all frozen in a cooler - a variety of steaks, chops, baked potatoes and pre-sent this to my cousin before I arrived at her place. It is a California-based place. They loved having this food available.
Or you could have a Harry & David fruit basket delivered on their last day there.

I am from ohio and often take Buckeyes ( candy). Is there anything regional from your area that you could send?

I have made up a little gift of local treats...Minnesota wild rice, local candies, etc.
I love all the other ideas posted!

Is there anything special in your area that you could give her?
I see I'm on the same page as mikklyn! ;-)

Will it just be the three of them, grandmother, friend and your child? What about a gift card for them to go out to dinner in their area?
We stayed with my husband's cousins in Florida over spring break. We sent them a thank you with pictures and a gift card to Best Buy for the husband and Target for the wife. They were both wonderful hosts! I normally feel uncomfortable staying at peoples houses but not them, they are so much fun! We had the best time!

Gift card for a dinner out so your daughter can treat the host. Then a little gift just for the host and I would ask her friend's parent what the GM likes...

I think all of these ideas are great, but I especially like the Kate Spade gifts because they are practical, but not something you would buy for yourself.
With hostess gifts, I really do think it is the thought that count, so I think the grandmother will appreciate anything your dd gets her.

I like the stationary idea or an assortment of regional foods/treats.
