Dh's boss gave us a gift certificate to The Whitney in downtown Detroit when we first moved to Detroit. Their menu was a lot more adventurous when we went, but that was almost 15 years ago. The chef brought out some amuse-bouche appetizers. There was one with smoked trout, quail egg, and trout roe. It was really amazing. I grew up at the beach and am very picky about the freshness of seafood. I don't like fishy tasting fish--I gag and hate the smell and taste of "fishyness" I do love raw oysters, scallops, shrimp, blue crabs, and larger fish steaks like mahi-mahi, swordfish, and king mackerel. Fish shouldn't smell stinky, raw or cooked. A lot of my issues with fish is texture. I have eaten sashimi and it's ok. Ahi tuna is good, but I'm not a fan of the texture. I also don't like cooked oysters. I really did like the trout roe, and I love salty things like capers, the flavour of anchovies, fish sauce, etc. I would really like to try caviar. I'll try anything once. I've heard it's really good with champagne, but I've only had the really cheap brut champagne and thought it was nasty. There weren't many bubbles, either. I'm not a huge wine drinker anyway--what I've tried tastes like vinegar and alcohol.

I'm not a fish eater (actually think it's awful) but I had to try caviar just for the saying. I have to tell you, it was 10x worse than any fish I have ever had. Not for me... .....................

I love seafood, and I really like the caviar on sushi rolls. So, DH brought home some caviar a few months ago and I thought it was vile. I cannot comment on the quality, however.

I have never tried it. Even when I ate meat regularly, I never liked fish or seafood. And I don't like things to be very salty. So the combo just never seemed like it would be a good match for me.

I have a horror of any and all seafood. Caviar and sushi are the stuff of nightmares for me. I will never taste either one if I can possibly help it!

First time I had it it was served on a pickle round. I bought some from the grocery store and not so much. I think I like the more expensive kind. I always try something twice but done different ways. I've eaten a lot worse than cavier
