Do you think that means: 2 dozen eggs that make a total of 48 deviled eggs OR 1 dozen eggs that make a total of 24 deviled eggs Deep Friday thoughts! I have to prepare deviled eggs for a funeral dinner tomorrow and I'm doubting myself if I should boil 1 dozen or 2 dozen.

I would think 24 finished products, so 1 dozen boiled eggs equals 2 dozen deviled eggs.
(Although to be honest, I personally would have to boil 2 dozen and hope that half of them turned out looking presentable to the public after peeling)

Whilst I know that technically 2 dozen eggs would make 48 halves, if I saw "2 dozen devilled eggs" I would expect to see 24 halves.
BUT.... If I was asked to make "2 dozen devilled eggs" I would err on the side of caution and use 24 eggs to make 48 halves.
Phew! Deep thoughts indeed!

Ya'll are no help! The answers are divided and I still don't know!! However, I'm probably going to make 2 dozen eggs/48 deviled eggs. In the future, I will clarify what is meant by "2 dozen" deviled eggs.

I'd err on the side of too many. I'd hate to make 24 halves and find out they meant 48 halves.

I would make the 48 halves. If they only wanted 24 halves, then great, more for you.

I would think it means 1 dozen made into 2 dozen ... but I'm in the camp of being afraid to not bring the right amount ... so I'd boil 2 dozen eggs. But based on my experience making deviled eggs earlier this week, that would mean I'd need to boil 3 dozen

How many people are expected at this funeral dinner? 48 halves is a shit-ton of deviled eggs, especially if other people are also bringing their share of food.

I would think that they meant 12 eggs, 24 halves. But, I am with those that would make 24 eggs, 48 halves. I loved Deviled Eggs and would be happy to bring home leftovers if necessary.

1 dozen eggs makes 24 deviled eggs.
And if I'm going to be making them I will have to cook 2 dozen eggs because I will eat at least half before I get them to where we are going.

There's something about deviled eggs. I can feel full on a couple hard boiled eggs but I could easily eat a dozen deviled eggs without hesitation.

I would probably boil 12 full eggs and cut them in half to make 24 deviled eggs. I just asked my dh and he disagrees with me, so I'm not sure what to think, lol.

Mmmmm, deviled eggs. I'd go with 48 egg halves.
Here's a tip to get perfectly peeled eggs- Cover eggs in tepid water, slowly bring to a boil and continue for 12 minutes. Dump off water, then add cold running water as you shake the pot, cracking the egg shells. You can also put the eggs in water with ice cubes and gentle roll and crack the eggs in the water. Going from boiling to cold water shrinks the egg from the shell, making it easier to peel. Then take a teaspoon and gently slide it under that thin membrane (skin), cupping it around the egg and shell should come off in almost one piece.

I think it means 2 dozen finished products. But to be on the safe side I'd boil 18 and make 36.

To me, "2 dozen deviled eggs" equals 12 eggs, 24 deviled eggs. "2 dozen eggs, deviled" would be 24 eggs, 48 deviled eggs.

I think one serving of deviled eggs is 1/2 an egg, so I would make 24 servings (using 12 eggs).

Kind of off topic, but I brought in hard-boiled eggs for lunch today. They come in a pack of 6 and I used 2 and I am traveling so I did not want to bring the other 4 eggs with me. So I left them in a co-worker's mini-fridge in his office. He is on vacation today so I needed to explain that I had left food in his fridge. I had to rewrite my email several times, because writing, "Hey, I left my eggs in your fridge" seemed somewhat inappropriate. "Please don't discard the eggs I left in your fridge" was not an option either.
As it happens, I did not devil them, but I did add some mayo and make egg salad out of the 2 I ate.
