If you are a USAA member, check out their car buying service. We had a great experience using it to buy our last car.
(P.S., I like the CRV better than the RAV4.)

CRV is definitely on my list too. In fact, I test drove one today. I think I like it better than the RAV4. Now I need to look around and see if I can find one that is a price I am willing to pay. I really don't like all of the add-ons that the dealer puts on the vehicles. Most of the time, they are things I really don't care about. I would rather have one straight for the factory and let me choose if I want any add-ons. This dealer had $3,260 of add-ons. Out of those, there are $990 that I might have chosen on my own. Also, I am trying to use the Costco program. I asked if I could get a vehicle when it comes in and before they add all the crap and he told me no. I have another dealership that I am going to check out that is also part of the Costco program. He said their vehicles have about $1700 in dealer add-ons. That is before the Costco discount on those add-ons. Also, they have the color that I want which this other dealership didn't. We like to stick with white because they age better and are easier to keep clean. ***ETA I just looked again and this dealer had $3,755 in add-ons, not $3,260. That is a lot of money for stuff I don't want. When you go though the Costco Program, you get a big discount on any dealer add ons. You will also get a discount on any accessories that you buy. You might want to hold off on accessories though, until you get back with Costco and do their survey. They will then email you a coupon for 50% off of up to $400 to use for service, accessories, etc. Check with Costco to see which dealer qualifies through Costco. Those lots are not as likely to try to force you into a lot of stuff that you don't want. Our CRV only had $800 of dealer installed options already installed. They don't want to get any bad points on the survey that Costco does. Apparently Costco is particular about which dealers qualify to use their program. We had to go to a dealer 30 minutes away instead of one that is 10 minutes from the house. They were exceptionally easy to work with and very helpful. Good luck and have fun choosing your new vehicle. The dealership I referred to above is a Costco dealership. I called Costco and got another dealership that is also convenient. In fact, I will be right by them tomorrow. They have 2 on the lot in the color that I want. Also, he told me that their add-ons usually total about $1700 and would be about $1100 with the Costco discount. I understand that dealerships make a lot of money from add-ons and I certainly want them to make a profit but trying to force me into thousands of dollars with of stuff I don't want did not make me happy. LOL Also, my DH is in the auto collision repair business. He can probably get me most of the add-ons at cost if I really want them.

Unfortunately, I am not a USAA member but I do qualify to be one. Also, I liked the CRV much better than the RAV4. I test drove it today. It has definitely moved to the top of my list over the RAV4. That doesn't mean I won't ultimately end up with a RAV4 but it will have to be because Honda didn't work with me.

I cannot rave enough about how fantastic it was to finance with USAA, use their car buying service, and insure the car through them. It was seamless and EASY. And we got a great deal without having to negotiate. Best car purchase EVER. Just had to sign a couple things and drive off.

And we got a great deal without having to negotiate. Best car purchase EVER. Just had to sign a couple things and drive off. A few days ago, DH bought his new truck using the Costco program. It was super easy too. Heck, the Toyota dealership emails me the MSRP as well as the Costco pricing and a list of everything the vehicle has. We knew before we walked in the door how much it was going to cost. He did have to find out about his trade in. I looked that up ahead of time to give us a guideline. They offered $34 less than what I found. Again, super easy. They have emailed all of the RAV4 information to me too. I don't know what they will give for my trade-in though. The Honda place WAY lowballed that. The same site where I figured out DH's said my wholesale trade should be about $3400. The Honda place today offered $2k. I was very realistic when I chose the shape it was in. My Trailblazer has never been in a accident, not even a fender bender. It has some door dings on the sides. It is very low mileage for its age. It is not a car they will put on their lot. They will wholesale it out. It is a 2003 with 103k on it so about 8,600 miles per year. I really should look into USAA for all of our insurance. We have been with State Farm for so long, it is hard to change. USAA is definitely on our list of companies we are ok with changing too. We know they take care of their customers.

I have a 2005 RAV4 that I bought brand new. I love it! I have always kept up the regular service schedule and I have not had any issues with it yet. I hope it never dies. It is comfortable and reliable. If and when it dies (aprox 220,000 km) I will definitely replace it with another.

EEbud, you won't go wrong with either one of those cars. Enjoy making the deal! For what it's worth, i have a 2013 Ford Edge = the 4 cylinder with EcoBoost. I get 25-26 mpg consistently. It may be too late but i did want to add that little tidbit And yes, do check out USAA - they are amazing!!!

I think they might have changed the engine some to give it more pep than they used to have. The CRV is rated at either 29 or 30 (I forget which) in the city. That is double what I get now. I really do need to check out USAA. The main thing that has kept me where I am is that some of my policies have discounts due to other policies. For instance, when I took out the umbrella policy, it dropped other policies that have liability like home and auto. Then there is the multi line discounts. If I decide to change, I need to figure out how to get everything moved in an orderly fashion. LOL I don't think any two policies or renewals come up in the same month.
